A Hierarchical User Interface for Large 3D Meshes in Mobile Systems (모바일 시스템의 대용량 3차원 메쉬를 위한 계층적 사용자 인터페이스)

  • This paper introduces a user interface for large 3D meshes in mobile systems, which have limited memory, screen size and battery power. A large 3D mesh is divided into partitions and simplified in multi-resolutions so a large file is transformed into a number of small data files and saved in a PC server. Only selected small files specified by the user are hierarchically transmitted to the mobile system for 3D browsing and rendering. A 3D preview in a pop-up shows a simplified mesh in the lowest resolution. The next step displays simplified meshes whose resolutions are automatically controlled by the user interactions. The last step is to render a set of detailed original partitions in a selected range. As a result, while minimizing using mobile system resources, our interface enables us to browse and display 3D meshes in mobile systems through real-time interactions. A mobile 3D viewer and a 3D app are also presented to show the utility of the proposed user interface.

  • The small-sized wind turbine generating system with the output power less than 10kW, which can be installed in some areas of hills, parks, and cities due to its flexibility, is one of the progressive research and development fields in renewable energy. It is important for the small wind turbine generators to have low cost, high reliability as well as high efficiency. To meet these requirements, development of various maximum-power-point-tracking (MPPT) control schemes should be required. Generally, the output of the controller can be connected to a 48V battery to supply power to a DC load. In this work, the design and implementation of an FPGA-based MPPT controller for small-sized wind turbine generating system is presented. For the verification of the practical performance of various MPPT algorithms, CRIO controller from NI has been used.

  • This paper deals with the trend analysis and the patent prior-art for wireless rechargeable technology. By this technological analysis, the corresponding service applications and the strategy upon the mobile smart phone regarding the design UX/UI and several wireless rechargeable technology have been derived. The market outlook on the wireless rechargeable technology grows rapidly so that the market size is increased about six times bigger than that of the last year, and it will grow about 18 billion dollars in 2014. Because of that, as the interest on this area outfocused, many kinds of technology and new product are being exploited in this field. So the technological guidance and the patent map for the wireless rechargeable technology will highly expected. Especially due to our analysis, research and development about service application of this technology is one of the most promising areas, and several technological suggestions are represented which include the patentability and invalidation, right strategy and licensing policy, and battery sharing with extended durability, etc.

  • Wireless Sensor Networking is state of the art technology that has a wide range of potential applications. Sensor network generally consists of a large number of distributed nodes that organize themselves into a multi-hop wireless network. Each node has one or more sensors, embedded processors and low-power radios, and is normally battery operated because of small size. In this paper wireless sensor networking technology applies to the environment monitoring system in the underground. This system can monitor a pollution level of the underground in realtime for keeping up a comfortable environment.

Power Saving Algorithm based on Data Reuse in Tree Structured Wireless Sensor Networks (트리 구조 무선 센서 네트워크에서의 데이터 재사용 기반의 전력 절감 기법)

  • Due to limited size and limited battery lifetime of sensor node, one has to address the power saving issue in wireless sensor network. The existing power saving algorithm based on data reuse was proposed for the cluster structured wireless sensor network. We state the problem of existing power saving algorithm and propose new power saving algorithm for tree structured wireless sensor network. The proposed algorithm reduces power consumption by buffering the sensed data at the selected relay node for its data lifetime. The optimum buffering node is selected so that the power saving gain is maximized and at the same time, power consumption among sensor nodes are equally distributed in the network. With computer simulations, it is shown that the proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional algorithm in terms of power saving gain.

  • In this paper, we propose a QoS guaranteed and energy-efficient transmission scheme for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs), which operate in conjunction with contention-based access protocols such as CSMA/CA. Energy consumption is one of the most important issues in WPAN systems, because WPAN devices are often required to operate under limited battery capacity. Furthermore, if the WPAN adopts a contention-based medium access protocol, the energy consumption problem becomes even more critical due to the collisions caused by independent channel access trials. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an algorithm that selects the optimum fragment size, modulation level, and transmission power, in order to minimize the energy consumption and guaranteethe QoS (Quality of Service) requirements, simultaneously. Our simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has better performance than the previous ones.

  • In this paper presents a new model of dual-mode synchronous buck converter with dynamic control for mobile applications was proposed. The proposed circuit can operate at 2.5MHz with supply voltage 2.5V to 5V for low ripple and minimum inductor and capacitor size, which is suitable for single-cell lithium-ion battery supply mobile applications. For high efficiency, the proposed circuit adopts synchronous type and dynamic control. The proposed circuit is designed by using the device parameter of TSMC 0.18um BCD process and the performance is evaluated by Cadence spectre. Experimental board level results show the maximum conversion efficiency is 96% at 100mA load current.

  • Glass base sealant is required as a ceramic-ceramic joining material between α-alumina insulation cap and β-alumina electrolyte tube in the development of NaS battery cell package for electrical energy storage system. The fabrication of glass frit by thermal quenching method, phase analysis, particle size analysis, coefficient of thermal expansion and surface roughness according to the glass compositions were analyzed for the fabrication of glass sealing paste for ceramic-ceramic joining. Also, a new evaluation method of the adhesion strength of glass sealant at the small area in ceramic-ceramic joining component was proposed using conventional Dage bond tester that was used to measure the adhesion of solder ball joint.

An Energy Saving Protocol to Eliminate Overhearing Problem in Active RFID System (능동형 RFID 시스템에서 태그의 Overhearing을 제거하기 위한 에너지 절약 프로토콜)

  • Reducing the energy that consumed by tag is a key requirement for the wider acceptance of the active RFID systems that use battery constrained tags. When the reader is not interrogating, the active RFID standard protocols try to reduce energy consumption of tags by using sleep mode. On sleep mode tags is active by receiving a specific signals from reader, until tag receive a sleep mode command from the reader, a tag waste energy for remaining in RX mode. Overhearing is a state of a tag in which it wastes energy for maintaining active RX state while there is no frame destined to it. According to our analysis, the amount of energy consumed by a tag due to overhearing is several time larger than that consumed by the effective communication. We propose RANO(Reservation Aloha for No Overhearing) that is designed to inform a tag of its effective communication intervals to eliminate overhearing problem in active RFID communication. The performance of the proposed protocol was evaluated through the real world by changing the number of tags and size of data. The result of an experiment, the proposed protocol performed saving about 22 times less than the standard protocol did.

Preparation of Spherical Li4Ti5O12 and the Effect of Y and Nb Doping on the Electrochemical Properties as Anode Material for Lithium Secondary Batteries (리튬이온이차전지용 구형 Li4Ti5O12 음극 합성 및 Y와 Nb 도핑에 따른 전기화학적 특성)

  • Yttrium (Y) and niobium (Nb) doped spherical $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ were synthesized to improve the energy density and electrochemical properties of anode material. The synthesized crystal was $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$, the particle size was less than $1{\mu}m$ and the morphology was spherical and well dispersed. The Y and Nb optimal doping amounts were 1 mol% and 0.5 mol%, respectively. The initial capacity of the dopant discharge and charge capacity were respectively 149mAh/g and 143 mAh/g and were significantly improved compared to the undoped condition at 129 mAh/g. Also, the capacity retention of 0.2 C/5 C was 74% for each was improved to 94% and 89%. It was consequently found that Y and Nb doping into the $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ matrix reduces the polarization and resistance of the solid electrolyte interface (SEI) layer during the electrochemical reaction.
