A CHARGER/DISCHARGER FOR MODELING OF SERIAL/PARALLEL CONNECTED NI-MH BATTERY

  • Equalizing the state of charge of cell that affects the charge/discharge quality and efficiency of the battery through the charge/discharge characteristic experiments of battery source, we develope the high efficiency charge/discharge system which would be used in serial HEV with the constant engine-generator output. For this, establishes the electrical model of Ni-MH battery appropriate to the high efficiency charge/discharge conditions. There is no model of Ni-MH cell, so we used Ni-Cd model and obtain the Ni-MH model through the experiment. A reason that each cell has the same charge/discharge property for applying the cell model to serial/parallel connected battery source extensively is needed. Therefore, in this paper, propose the Ni-MH charger/discharger has the equalization charging function and selectable cut-off function.

배터리 기반 2단 충전 9 kJ/s 고전압 충전기 설계 (Design of 9 kJ/s High Voltage LiPo Battery based 2-stage Capacitor Charger)

  • A lithium polymer battery-based 9 kJ/s high-voltage capacitor charger, which comprises two stages, is proposed. A modified LCC resonant converter and resonant circuit are introduced at the first and second stages, respectively. In the first stage, the methods for handling low-voltage and high-current batteries are considered. Delta-wye three-phase transformers are used to generate a high output voltage through the difference between the phase and line-to-line voltages. Another method is placing the series resonant capacitor of the LCC resonant components on the transformer secondary side, which conducts considerably low current compared with the transformer primary side. On the basis of the stable operation of the first charging stage, the secondary charging stage generates final output voltage by using the resonance. This additional stage protects the rectifying diodes from the negative voltage when the output capacitor is discharged for a short time. The inductance and capacitance of the resonance components are selected by considering the resonance charging time. The design procedure for each stage with the aforementioned features is suggested, and its performance is verified by not only simulation but also experimental results.

  • This research is to develop satiable battery charger with a variety of capacity and voltage specifications of battery. For this, voltage or current were controlled through buck converter which is DC voltage that already received three-phase at primary side and passed bridge rectifier diode. And, it was comprised of full-bridge converter and HFTR for insulation and a square wave AC. The transformer primary side was comprised in series to divide certain charging current and the secondly side was comprised of 6 fixed transformers so that they can generate certain amount of power and various output voltage through relay parallel compound 6 DC Link outputs. To confirm such structure's verification and validity, simulation with PSIM was conducted, and validity of proposed variable charger system was verified through 3kW stack production.

  • This paper is an experimental research of the design of a cell battery charger using switching methods. The developed charger in this paper can do both the equalizing current charge and floating charge. Also, it is easily transferable. Power MOS FET was used for the full bridge converter of the charger, and ZVS was applied for the switching method of the converter. Also, Customized IC was used for the control circuit in order to simplify ZVS mode. The setting current and floating current used for the charger were designed by using OP AMP. Based on the process provided by the current research, a sample converter with the power rating of 5KVA was developed and is field-testing to improve its validity and stability.

  • This paper proposes a single-stage interleaved soft-switching electrolytic capacitor-less EV charger with reduced component count and simple circuit structure. The proposed charger achieves ZVS turn-on of all switches and ZCS turn-off of all diodes without regard to voltage and load variation. It achieves high power density even without an input filter due to CCM operation and bulky electrolytic capacitors and without a low-frequency component in the transformer. A 2 kW prototype of the proposed charger with sinusoidal charging is built and tested to verify the validity of the proposed operation.

  • This paper proposes a simple MPPT control scheme of a Current-Control-Loop Error system Based that can be obtains a lot of advantage to compare with another digital control method, P&O and IncCond algorithm, that is applied mostly a PV system. An existent method is needed an expensive processor such as DSP that calculated to change the measure power of a using current and voltage sensor at the once. Therefore, it is applied a small home power generation system that required many expenses. But, a proposed method is easy to solve the cost reduction and power unbalance problems that it is used by control scheme to limit error of a current control of common sensor. This proposed algorithm had verified through a simulation and an experiment on battery charger using PIC that is the microprocessor of a low price.

  • This paper presents a novel three-port converter for the OnBoard Charger of Electric Vehicles by using an impedance control network. The proposed concept is suitable for charging a main battery and an auxiliary battery of an electric vehicle at the same time due to its power handling capability of the converter without additional switches. The power flow is managed by the phase angle (${\Theta}$) between the ports whereas voltage at each port is controlled by the asymmetric duty cycle and the phase shift (${\Phi}$) between the inverter lags controlled by the impedance control network. The proposed system has a capability of achieving zero voltage switching (ZVS) and zero current switching (ZCS) at all the switches over the wide range of input voltage, output voltage and output power. The feasibility of the proposed system is verified by the PSIM simulation.

  • To improve the drawback of LCMPPT(Limit Cycle Maximum Power Point Tracking) controller of the existing two power conversion stages, an advanced MPPT scheme of single power conversion stage is proposed in this paper. This topology is faster on the control speed by means of current control method and the system configuration is simpler. The Authors produce a battery charger by using a cost effective one-chip processor (PIC16F877A) and evaluate another application on the basis of simulation. As a result, the proposed new LCMPPT algorithm is confirmed to be stable and useful.

  • Integrated switched reluctance motor drive as an electric vehicle battery charger is presented in this paper. The SRM, which is used as the traction power in the driving mode, is used in the charge circuit to improve the power factor of charging system. The charging circuit can share the power switches of the asymmetric converter and phase windings of SRM to charge the battery, and can reduce the size and cost of the system in the plug-in system. To keep the rotor at standstill, zero torque control method is proposed. Since the inductances of the SRM windings are not same at any stop position, the charger controller controls the reference current to satisfy the total charging current with PFC and zero torque condition. A novel cubic equation method is proposed as a current reference distributor of the charging controller. Simulations are performed by MATLAB software and results satisfy the Effectiveness of proposed battery charging system.

  • 태양광 가로등 시스템에 사용되는 전원 장치는 배터리 충전을 위한 충전기와 LED Lamp를 구동하기 위한 LED 드라이버로 구성되어 있는데 일반적인 시스템에서는 별도의 전원장치로 구성되어 있다. 본 연구에서는 충전기와 LED 드라이버를 한 개의 전원장치로 구성하였다. 특히 장치의 효율을 높이기 위하여 계통 연계형 태양광 발전시스템에 적용하는 최대전력추적(Maximum Power Point Tracking: MPPT) 방식을 충전기에 적용하였다. LED 드라이버에 필수적인 정전류 방식은 충전기의 전류제어 루틴을 사용하여 구현하였다.
