The Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO) has developed a test module that can vertically ascend and descend with a buoyancy engine to verify the performance of the developed buoyancy engine. The independent test module has been tested in the Ocean Engineering Basin(C.M.Lee et al., 2023). After that, more tests were performed in the Deep Ocean Engineering Basin and at sea. In the 50-meter depth pit test of the Deep Ocean Engineering Basin, there were no problems with the ascent and descent operations, but the buoyancy engine was not properly maintained due to various problems in the independent test module, resulting in a difference between the calculated results using the solution of the equations of motion and the actual measurement results. The East Sea test was conducted at a depth of approximately 110 meters north-east of Pohang, with a dive to 100 meters. The difference between the pressure sensor value and the calculated value was observed, but after checking the results of the underwater position tracking device(USBL, Ultra Short Base Line system), it was estimated that the difference was caused by the influence of the current.
The main purpose of the flocculation process is to make flocs bigger to be removed easily in the following processes. The flow pattern and mixing intensity have a great influence on flocculation. In this study, the flow pattern was examined by a hydraulic tracer-test, where 3 water treatment plants having $800,000m^3/d$, $44,000m^3/d$ and $40,000m^3/d$ were employed. Also, the settling test was conducted to find out the relationship between the mixing intensity and the settling ability of flocs. The hydraulic tracer-test was conducted for the various flocculation processes that have different structures of flocculation basins. In the result, the retention time distribution (RTD) curves for the flocculation processes were quite different. In case of the inappropriate structure of the flocculation basin, the flow is not even so that the floc does not grow enough. To find out the relationship between mixing intensity and settleability of flocs, G-values were calculated and the settling test was conducted for two flocculation basins which have the same conditions except the G-value. For the flocculation basin with uneven G-value, the floc settleability was revealed poor. On the other hand, the flocculation basin with even G-value, the settleability was better than the previous one. From these experimental results, it is confirmed that the flow pattern is closely related to the structure of the flocculation basin and the settleability is affected by mixing intensity. Therefore the flow pattern and the strength of the mixing intensity should be examined sufficiently to design and operate flocculation basin.

This paper presents a Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) based simulation and experimental tracer test of flow pattern and turbulent energy dissipation inside a serpentine flocculation basin with continuous operation. Research focused on the evaluation of a specific flow pattern on the hydraulic behavior on the flocculation basin. From the results of CFD simulation and actual tracer test, both results were in good accordance with each other. Also, each Morill index were calculated as 1.5 from CFD simulation and 1.7 from actual tracer test, respectively. Especially, turbulence energy was dissipated relatively higher in the vicinity of inlet to the flocculation basin than other region. The differences between the CFD simulation and actual tracer test were 1.4 min in $T_{50}$, and 1.3 min in $T_p$, respectively.

To build an environment facility of a large-scale ocean basin, various detailed reviews are required, but it is difficult to find data that introduces the related research or construction processes on the environment facility. The current generator facility for offshore structure safety evaluation tests should be implemented by rotating the water of the basin. However, when the water in the large basin rotates, relatively large flow irregularities may occur and the uniformity may not be adequate. In this paper, design and review were conducted to satisfy the performance goals of the DOEB through computational numerical analysis on the shape of the waterway and the flow straightening devices to form the current in the large tank. Based on this, the head loss, which decreases the flow rate when the large tank water rotates through the water channel, was estimated and used as the pump capacity (impeller) design data. The impeller of the DOEB current generator was designed through computational numerical analysis (CFD) based on the lift surface theory from the axial-type impeller shape for satisfying the head loss of the waterway and maximum current velocity. In order to confirm the performance of the designed impeller system, the flow rate and flow velocity performance were checked through factory test operation. And, after installing DOEB, the current flow rate and velocity performance were reviewed compare with the original design target values. Finally, by measuring the current velocity of the test area in DOEB formed through the current generator, the spatial current distribution characteristics in the test area were analyzed. Through the analysis of the current distribution characteristics of the DOEB test area, it was confirmed that the realization of the maximum current velocity and the average flow velocity distribution, the main performance goals in the waterway design process, were satisfied.

Understanding the strength characteristics of model ice is an important issue for model testing in an ice model basin to estimate the ship performance in ice. In particular, the mechanical properties of the model ice including elastic modulus, flexural strength and compressive strength are key consideration factors. In order to understand the characteristics of the model ice during warm-up phase at KRISO's ice model basin, the strength properties are tested in this study. The infinite plate-bending method, in-situ cantilever beam test and ex-situ uniaxial compressive test are conducted to determine the strength properties of model ice. The strength characteristics of the model ice are then analyzed in terms of the warm-up phase and seasonality. These results could be valuable to quality control of the model ice characteristics in KRISO's ice model basin and to better understand the variations in strength properties during the ice model tests.

The stability of the existing ships has been evaluated through numerical calculations in the steady-state, but recently the IMO proposed a new stability assessment criteria that the stability is evaluated in the state in which environmental loads from such as waves and wind act like the loads under actual ship operating conditions. In this study, IMO 2nd generation stability assessment method and procedure were summarized for the dead ship condition, and Direct Stability Assessment (DSA) was performed on 13K chemical tanker through basin model test. The model test is performed in the ocean engineering basin to implement wave and wind loads, and environmental conditions for waves were set height and period of the incident wave, considering the regular wave and wind generation range reproducible in the ocean engineering basin. In addition, to consider the effect of wind speed, the Beaufort Scale for wind speed was applied in the model test.
Evapotranspiration and rainfall-runoff are the major components of hydrological cycle and thereby the changes of them can directly affect the wetness/dryness or runoff characteristics of basins. In this study the wetness/dryness in Geum river basin are classified by dint of cumulative probability density function of monthly moisture index and the long term changes of them are analyzed based on climatic water balance concept. The drought events in Geum river basin are selected through evaluation of monthly moisture index and the various hydrological properties of them are investigated in detail. Also the trends of time-series of climatic water balance components are examined by Seasonal Kendall test and the variability of hydrological cycle in Geum river basin during the recent decade is inquired. It is judged that the results of this study can be contributed to establishment of the counter plan against the future drought events as the fundamental information.

To analyze the evolution of water resources in Qiandao Lake Basin under the condition of climate change, a WEP-L distributed hydrological model was established to simulate the water cycle process in the basin during 1960-2020. The Mann-Kendall non-parametric test method and Hurst index method were used to analyze the inter-annual variation and annual distribution characteristics of the total water resources in the basin. The multi-scale temporal and spatial distribution and evolution trend of water resources in Qiandao Lake Basin were evaluated. The results show that: (1) The WEP-L model has good simulation results in the Qiandao Lake basin, and the Nash coefficient rate is above 0.83 in the periodic period and above 0.85 in the verification period. (2) The water yield coefficient of the whole basin ranges from 0.436 to 0.630. The annual average total water resource is 12.25 billion m3, equivalent to 1176.4mm of water depth. The annual distribution process shows a unimodal structure, and the water depth of each sub-basin ranges from 742 mm to 1266 mm, and the spatial distribution is higher in the west and lower in the east. (3) The annual water resources series in the basin showed an insignificant upward trend, and the Hurst index was 0.86, indicating a continuous upward trend. From the perspective of monthly water resources, January and February increased significantly, the other months were not significant changes.
