Plan for Activation of CPR by Laypersons (일반인의 심폐소생술 인식에 따른 교육 활성화 방안 - 전북지역을 중심으로 -)

  • This study was attempted to provide basic data develop CPR training program for layperson by looking into layperson's recognition and attitude of execution of CPR and to prepare for underlying data in drawing up training policy and suggesting relevant legislation so that trained laypersons can positively perform rescue activities. The survey was done from August 20 to September 20, 2007. Total Subjects in this study were 78. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS Program. The summary of the research is as follows : First, to the question of whether or not the recognition or performance of CPR is universal within the country, 82.1% of respondents gave a negative answer as 'No', The most reason was found to be 'Poor training and P.R. of CPR' accounting for 50.1%, 94.8% of the whole respondents answered that CPR training is necessary. As plan for activatin of CPR training, they answered that top priority shall be given to compulsory school training(79.5%). Secondly, when respondents observed their family's cardic 84.6% of them answered that they would conduct CPR but when they observed other's cardiac arrest, just 41.7% of them answered it. As an effective CPR activation plan, the most answer was training and P.R. of CPR as 79.5%. This study suggests that laypersons high perception of the effectiveness of the CPR and that they wound be willing to provide CPR in a medical emergency.

  • Purpose. Effective health policy to raise education rate and to provide basic data to identify the college of Education degree and CPR. Purpose of this study was to inform the need for retraining of college students received CPR training. Methods. The sample consisted of 70 a series of health related university students and 70 the general college students ; total 120 in J city. The period of data collecting was from November 1st to Nov. 16th. The tools were 24 questionnaires named "CPR Survey". The collected data were analyzed to get frequency, percentage, average, and standard deviation, t-test and Person's correlation coefficients by using of SPSS for WINDOW 12.0 K program. Results. The number of CPR-trained persons was significantly higher in the health related university students than general college students. Conclusions. CPR training after the passage of time, the percentage of correct answer got lower as time goes by. The answer should be 'School formal education' was the highest. The percentage of students who recognized the necessity of CPR re-education was high.

Cognition about First Aid Education in Elementary School Students (초등학생의 응급처치 교육에 대한 인식)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide basic data to develop first aid education programs for elementary school students. Method: A self-report questionnaire was used to collect data from 720 5th and 6th grade elementary school students. Results: 1) The mean score for cognition of first aid education of the students was high with a score of 2.64 $({\pm}.30)$. 2) The mean scores for the 11 categories were, "Fire & Burns", 2.78 $({\pm}.40)$, "Poisoning", 2.77 $({\pm}.47)$, "Thermal injuries", 2.75 $({\pm}.51)$, "Rescue & moving", 2.73 $({\pm}.37)$, "Bites", 2.72 $({\pm}.44)$, "General first aid", 2.64 $({\pm}.37)$, "Wounds", 2.59 $({\pm}.39)$, "Removing foreign bodies", 2.58 $({\pm}.46)$, "Cardiopulmonary resuscitation", 2.57 $({\pm}.59)$, and "Musculoskeletal injuries" and "Others", 2.54 $({\pm}.51,\;{\pm}.53)$. 3) There was a significant difference in the cognition of first aid education according to student's gender (t=-3.012, p=.003), and judgement about the emergency situation (F=3.411, p=.034). Conclusion: The results indicate the necessity of developing effective first aid education programs for elementary school students.

The Evaluation of Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Training Targeted for College Students (대학생의 기본 심폐소생술 교육 평가 - 간호과와 비간호과를 대상으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of CPR skills and the satisfaction of CPR Training targeted for college students. Also, this study made comparative study of nursing students and non-nursing students. The sample consisted of 248 students(132 nursing students, 116 non-nursing students). CPR Training was designed by two components which were a lecture and demonstration by one professor and individual practice by instructors. As tool of measurement estimation satisfaction of CPR Training questionnaires were developed based on educated contents. The accuracy of CPR skills were checked by SkillReporter CPR training manikin. Collected data were computerized and analyzed by SPSS-WIN program. The results were as follows : 1. The skills of CPR were cardiac compression 92.79 times/min, correct cardiac compression rate 90.85%, ventilation 9.93 times/min, correct ventilation rate 79.34%. 2. The mean of the accuracy of CPR skills were 2.94(SD .87). 3. When errors were analyzed, the highest item was stomach distension(51.2%) of ventilation skills and too little(70.6%) of cardiac compression skills. 4. The mean of the satisfaction of CPR training were 2.87(SD .17), the highest item of the satisfaction of CPR Training was practice. 5. We found significant statistical differences based on the accuracy and the error, non-nursing students were high in correct cardiac compression per minute(t=3.615, p=.000) and ventilation too much(t=4.292, p=.000), nursing students were high in correct ventilation rate(t=-3.885, p=.000) and cardiac compression too shallow) t=-2.842, p=.005).

  • PC Skillreporting feedback during cardiopulmonary resuscitaion would improve the performance of chest compression and ventilation during cardiac arrest. BLS skills were measured using Laerdal Skillreporter manikin(Laerdal, Norway) connected to a Laerdal PC Skillreporting system. Ventilation volume, chest compression accuracy, velocity of compression, depth of compression, hand position and chest recoil were measured between the two groups. Ventilation volume was significantly higher in the experimental group than that of control group(p<0.002). Chest compression depth was significantly higher in experimental group than that of control group(p=0.000). The quality of CPR can be improved by the use of PC Skillreporting system.

Comparison of Efficiency of New Chest Compression Methods in Pediatric CPR (소아 심폐소생술 중 새로운 가슴압박 방법의 효율성 비교)

  • This study was conducted for effective CPR by comparing the quality of chest compressions when using a new chest compression method during pediatric CPR. As an experimental study by Randomized Crossover Design, the depth, speed, compression-to-relaxation ratio, ease, and stability were measured when performing chest compressions for 28 Emergency Medical Technicians who completed the BLS Health Care-Provider qualification. The collected data were analyzed by using the SPSS Ver. 23.0 for Win statistical program. To summarize the results of this study, if the new chest compression method was used for chest compression in pediatric CPR, the qualitative indicators of chest compressions were improved. It is good to stick to the existing method, but through the new chest compression method, it will be necessary to confirm the possibility of clinical use based on additional research on various age groups and environmental factors.

Education Effect in Basic CPR for the Dental Hygiene Students (치위생과 학생을 대상으로 한 기본 심폐소생술 교육효과)

  • This study was to examine the knowledge, attitude, self-efficacy, and capability of skill for Dept. of Dental Hygiene students in performing basic skill of cardiopulmonary resuscitation as the following AHA's CPR 2005 Guide-Lines. And we hope to know the influence of those affect on the correctness of chest thrusts, the correctness of artificial respiration, and the correctness of skill performing. As a SPSS 14.0 program's analyzing results, we came to the following conclusions : 1. In the basic CPR's knowledge, the scores of knowledge rose from 5.93 before education to 12.46 after education. In attitude, the scores of attitude rose from 2.52 to 3.71 after education. In self-efficacy's scores, rose from 3.22 to 3.26 too, and all components have statistically significant differences(P < .05). 2. In performing CPR, the correctness of chest thrusts is 68.90%, artificial respiration is 19.00%. 3. Total average score of the capability of skill is 4.51. 4. Only self-efficacy affected the correctness of chest thrusts after education(P < .05). 5. Attitude after education affected both the correctness of artificial respiration and skill performing(P < .05).

The Effects of Training on the Proper Use of Respiratory Rate Measurement Devices for Providing High-Quality Artificial Ventilation

  • This study aims to investigate the appropriate volume of artificial ventilation and success rate when Basic - emergency medical Technician administer bag valve mask(BVM) artificial ventilation to patients experiencing respiratory failure or respiratory arrest using a respiratory rate measurement device. The research was conducted from December 11th to 12th, 2023, targeting 20 Basic - emergency medical Technicians enrolled at D University. Ten participants were selected for the experimental group, receiving BVM ventilation training with the use of a respiratory rate measurement device, while the other ten were assigned to the control group, receiving BVM ventilation training without the use of a respiratory rate measurement device. The experiment involved providing artificial ventilation for 2 minutes. The results of the study indicated that the control group did not provide accurate tidal volume (p=.025). The experimental group demonstrated a higher success rate of ventilation over the 2-minute period, while the control group showed a significant difference (p=.001). Subjective perception of tidal volume and objectively measured tidal volume also exhibited a significant difference in the control group (p=.010). Therefore, training with a respiratory rate measurement device can align the subjective perception of tidal volume with objective measurements, increase the success rate of ventilation, and potentially contribute to improving survival rates in patients experiencing respiratory failure or respiratory arrest during cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The Effects of Basic Life Support Course for Healthcare Providers on the Knowledge and Attitude of Health Science College Students (의료인 기본심폐소생술 교육이 보건계열 대학생의 지식과 태도에 미치는 효과)

  • This study aimed to identify the effects of Basic Life Support course for healthcare providers on the knowledge and attitude of the health science college students. The study was a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent pre-post test. The subjects included 140 health science college students from a D college in D city. BLS course for healthcare providers was given to the experimental group from August 3 to August 29, 2010. The knowledge and attitude of cardiopulmonary resuscitation were measured. The data were analyzed with ${\chi}^2$ test, Fisher's exact test, independent t-test, paired t-test and ANCOVA using the SPSS/PC 12.0 win. For the CPR knowledge, a significant increase was observed in the experimental group (F=47.227, p<.001). For the CPR attitude, the experimental group were significantly increased compared to the control group (F=40.204, p<.001). The study showed that BLS Course for Healthcare Providers has positive effects on CPR knowledge and attitude for the health science college students. Subject related to CPR through the division of health science needs to be recommended and systemic and standard educational programs should be developed.

Psychological burden for legal responsibility of 119 emergency personnels (119구급대원의 법적책임에 대한 심리적 부담감)

  • Purpose : To grasp the mental burden for legal responsibility that rescue members have in the performance of job. Method : Questionnaire was presented to rescue members serving in 2 direct control safety centers of fire station located in Seoul, Daejon, Incheon, Kwangju, Busan, Daegu and Ulsan. Results : 1. Questioned whether they have mental burden for legal responsibility while performing job on the site, the rescue members responded : very burdensome in 38.0%, burdensome in 56.0%, moderate in 4.5%, not burdensome in 1.0%, no burden at all in 0.5%. 2. Questioned on the first aid treat for which they have the most mental burden, the rescue members responded : intubation into trachea laryngeal mask airway(LMA) in 40.4%, automatic external defibrillator in 16.3%, securing vein providing sap(medicine) in 10.8%, basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation in 7.2%, eliminating foreign matters inserted into body in 5.4%, stanching external bleeding and treating injury in 5.4%, fixing extremities and spine by using splint in 1.8%, measuring the symptom of vitality in 1.2%, providing oxygen in 0.0%. 3. Questioned whether experiencing legal problem or firm petition(complaint) raised by patient while serving as rescue members, they responded : experiencing a complaint in 41.6%, experiencing no complaint in 58.4%. Asked to indicate the stress level in the scale of which they suffered when lawsuit or firm petition was raised, 0(weak)-10(strong), they answered 8.8 in average. 4. Questioned whether 119 rescue members put the legal responsibility in case that they cause damage to patients intentionally in performing, they responded to the inquiry 3.66 in average(of 5.00). It represented meaningful differences (F=2.874, p=.024) whether they had license or not. 5. In future, legal action will raise against the rescue member by 99% because of people's rights improvement(63.1%), high expectations for the rescue system(29.5%), non-licensed rescue members(5.1%). Conclusion : It was found that the rescue members had severe mental burden for advanced life support which was investigated to have low enforcement rate in the preceding research, for instance, intubation into trachea securing vein management by using automatic external defibrillator. To improve the qualitative level of rescue service in the fire fighting, it may be required to construct the environment that eliminates the mental burden of rescue members for legal responsibility.
