고령자 근효율 향상을 위한 피트니스 압박웨어 시장조사 및 동작특성 조사 (Market Survey and Motion Characteristics Research on Fitness Compression Wear to Improve Muscle Efficiency for the Elderly)

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the market of fitness compression wear as well as to design an optimal fitness compression wear by analyzing the muscle and movement characteristics of the elderly women in Korea. In this regard, research for functional garments is needed to increase muscle activity of elderly people during physical exercise. Firstly, we investigated the brand, design, size, material, and pattern of fitness wear based on the market survey. Secondly, we identified preference, evaluation items, evaluation method, and pattern design method based on the literature review. Finally, in addition, the motion type, range, angle to improve the muscle strength of the elderly were investigated and the maximum muscle strengths of each motion were analyzed by using 2007 Size Korea data (n = 386). It is also designed for muscle fatigue through exercise and rapid fatigue recovery after exercise. The evaluation methods for fitness compression wear were classified as motor functionality, physiological comfort, pattern and material suitability evaluations. The muscle strength at leg (pushing force) and waist (lifting force) of the ages of 60 to 69 years old showed 239.3 N and 274.5 N, respectively, which were the lowest forces compared to younger age groups. By applying these results to the design process of fitness wear, it is anticipated that the fitness wear will have a proper fit to the body shape of elderly people in South Korea as well as it can increase muscle efficiency to promote physical capability and healthy life for senior people.

직장여성의 발레피트니스 수업 경험에 대한 미적 가치 인식 연구 (A Study on the Aesthetic Value Recognition of Work Women's Ballet Fitness Class Experience)

  • 이 연구는 발레피트니스 수업을 수강하고 있는 직장여성들의 수업에 대한 미적 가치 인식에 대해 질적 분석하고 연구 참여자들의 의견에 따라 발레피트니스 수업이 올바르게 정착되기 위한 방법 모색을 하는데 목적이 있다. 연구 참여자는 지역 교육기관에서 발레피트니스 수업을 수강하고 있는 직장여성 9명으로 FGI(Focus Group Interview)를 진행하였으며 인터뷰는 반구조화 형식의 질문지를 바탕으로 진행되었다. 이후 범주화 내용은 전문가 검토 및 동료 간의 검토로 도출되었다. 그 결과 첫째, 연구 참여자들은 발레피트니스 수업을 통해 일상의 즐거움과 통증개선에 도움이 되었으며 발레공연 또한 관심 있게 보게 되었지만 수업에 관련한 정보제공이 미흡한 점은 개선되기를 바라며 불만을 표하였다. 둘째, 연구 참여자들은 발레피트니스 수업의 이점을 가족 및 주변 지인들에게 적극 알리고 있었으며 이 운동이 발레에 대한 어려운 이미지의 개선에도 도움이 되기를 바라였다. 이 연구를 토대로 발레피트니스 수업은 직장여성들에게 취미 운동으로 충분히 자리 잡을 수 있도록 기대하였다.

건강을 위한 여성고령자의 노인체력수준 차이에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Differences in Senior Fitness Levels for Health Life in the Elderly Women)

  • 본 연구는 여성고령자들의 비만도와 신체활동수준에 따른 신체구성요인 및 노인체력수준 차이 비교를 통하여 여성고령자의 건강증진생활과 여성노인들에게 효과적인 건강증진프로그램을 제안하고자 실시하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 비만도 분류에 따른 신체구성요인은 혈압 고, 노인체력에서는 의자에서 일어섰다 앉기, 아령 들기, 2분제자리 걷기, 2.4m 왕복걷기에서 시기와 그룹 간에 상호작용 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 비만도수준이 높을수록 노인체력의 의자에서 일어섰다 앉기, 아령들기, 2분 제자리걷기의 체력이 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 2. 신체활동수준에 따른 신체구성요인은 혈압 고, 노인체력에서는 의자에서 일어섰다 앉기, 아령 들기, 의자앉아 앞으로 굽히기, 2분 제자리걷기, 2.4m 왕복 긷기에서 시기와 그룹 간에 상호작용 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 신체활동량이 많을수록 노인 체력의 의자에서 일어섰다 앉기, 아령들기, 2분 제자리걷기, 의자앉아 앞으로 굽히기, 2.4m 왕복걷기의 체력이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 결과를 종합해 보면 건강증진프로그램 참여는 노인여성들의 건강과 관련된 신체구성요인과 노인체력에 긍정적 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다.

Some Environmental Factors Associated with Obesity in Women Attending A Physical Fitness Program in the Ulsan Area

  • A sample of 450 women who attended a physical fitness program in the Ulsan area was selected to study some environmental factors associated with obesity. The women were grouped into two categories, obese and nonobese, based on body mass index(kg/$m^2$). Average BMI of the total subjects was 24.3$\pm$4.8, but 34.7% of the subjects rated equal to or ore than 25 type, which can be considered as obese. The results showed that age, employment status, family type, and food frequency score have a statistically significant association with obesity. However, education level, nutrition knowledge, availability of housemaids, family history of obesity, and house type are not related to obesity . There were no differences in sources of nutrition information between the obese and the nonobese. The above results suggest that health education programs should consider environmental factors as well as health factors in preventing obesity obesity in the community.

요부 안정화 운동이 만성요통을 가진 중년여성의 요통, 체력, 수면 및 우울에 미치는 효과 (Effect of Lumbar Stabilization Exercise on Back Pain, Physical Fitness, Sleep, and Depression in Middle-Aged Women with Chronic Back Pain)

  • Purpose: The study was to examine the effect of lumbar stabilization exercise on back pain, physical fitness, sleep, and depression in middle-aged women who have chronic back pain. Methods: With one group pre-post test design, 18 subjects who have had more than 6 months of back pain were recruited by convenience sampling in D metropolitan area. Lumbar stabilization exercise was based on Tai Chi for back pain program developed by Lam(2003). This program was mainly focusing on strengthening lumbar stabilizing muscle for one hour per session, twice a week for 20 weeks. Degree of back pain, back pain disability, sleep, and depression were measured at three time points(pretest, 12 weeks, and 20 weeks) by a structured study questionnaire. Physical fitness variables including waist flexibility, mobility, and back muscle strength were measured three times at health promotion center located in the university hospital. Data were analyzed by frequency, descriptive statistics, and repeated measures of ANOVA. Results: Mean age of subjects was 52 years(SD = 6.4). Most of them(90%) had suffered from back pain more than one year and 67% was taking medicine to relieve their back pain. Results showed that back pain score and disability score were not significantly decreased after the exercise. On physical fitness variables, however, waist flexibility(F = 3.50, p = .04) and mobility(F = 3.31, p = .04) were improved after the exercise. Quality of sleep(F = 4.48, p = .03) was improved gradually and depression scores were also decreased(F = 3.12, p = .05) after the exercise. Conclusion: This lumbar stabilization exercise was not able to reduce chronic back pain, but could improve physical fitness and psycho-social variables for community dwelling women who have chronic back pain. Further study is needed to replicate this exercise with control group to confirm the positive effect.

비대면 체육 교육을 위한 실감 콘텐츠 개발 사례 (A Case Study on Tangible Contents Development for Contactless Physical Education)

  • 포스트 코로나 이후 스포츠, 체육, 피트니스 등의 언텍트 환경기반 서비스가 확장되면서 VRAR 기술이 접목된 실감 콘텐츠의 요구가 확대되고 있다. 주요한 핵심기술은 센서기술을 통한 이용자 실감 데이터 제공 및 분석, 동작 인식 센서를 통한 이용자 신체 움직임 감지 및 신체 골격 포인트 지점의 실시간 측정, 다중접속 실시간 영상, AI 트레이닝 등의 다양한 기술이 활용되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 실내기반 비대면 환경의 체육, 스포츠, 피트니스 등에 필요한 실감 콘텐츠에 관한 개발 사례 연구로 동작 인식 센서기술을 활용하여 실감 콘텐츠 개발에 필요한 측정평가 기획접근을 통하여 신체측정 실감 콘텐츠 개발 사례를 제시하였다. 실감 콘텐츠 기획은 테스트를 통해서 측정평가 기능을 활용할 수 있는 범위 안에서 전문가의 자문내용을 바탕으로 측정평가 항목을 수립하였고 실감 콘텐츠의 평가 측정 요소로 반영하여 개발에 적용하였다. 해당 연구는 스포츠 및 체육 교육 분야의 비대면 실감 콘텐츠 연구의 참고사례 및 해당 콘텐츠를 개발하고자 하는 산업체의 기획접근 참고내용으로 활용될 수 있다.

국민 건강증진을 위한 신체활동 지침 (Health-enhancing Physical Activity Guidelines for Koreans: the Status and Directions for Revision)

  • Objectives: There have been no specific as well as evidence-based physical activity guidelines issued on the governmental level. There just have been physical activity recommendations and guidelines released from governmental agencies or organizations as well as individual researchers and these are not consistent, thereby giving the public and even some professionals quite a confusion. As such, this study was aimed to suggest key factors to include when issuing national physical activity recommendations for Koreans. Methods: Since chronological evolution of modern physical activity recommendations reflects key factors to consider when establishing those recommendations and guidelines, that released for several decades was reviewed. Results: The evolution was found to be based on the basis of strong evidence from both epidemiological and exercise physiology studies and the key concepts of such evolution were feasibility, efficacy, and safety. Conclusion: On the basis of three key factors found in the review process, this study concluded that the upcoming national physical activity guidelines should include the following to maximize the outcomes of the efforts which have long been put by the division of physical activity under the 'New Health Plan 2010'. First, guidelines for achieving health benefits (ie, preventing chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancers or weight management) as well as improving cardiorespiratory fitness should be included to enhance efficacy. Second, safety measures should be included to enhance safety. Third, various alternative forms of physical activity should be included to enhance feasibility.

Correlation between BMI and Physical Fitness of College Women in Seoul

  • This study investigated the correlation of the physical measurements and the basic physical fitness of 158 female students in the city of Seoul. The average age of the subjects was 22.0 ${\pm}$ 0.13 years old, the average height was 160.9 ${\pm}$ 0.7cm and the average weight was 53.4 ${\pm}$ 0.6kg. The mean BMI (Body Mass Index) was 20.7 ${\pm}$ 0.2kg/㎡. The average muscle mass was 36.5 ${\pm}$ 0.3 and the average body fat percentage was 28.0 ${\pm}$ 0.4%. The basic fitness levels of the subjects were measured based on the evaluation chart of the Korea Health and Science Research Institution (1994). The subjects were divided into 3 groups based on BMI(Group I : BMI < 20, Group II : 20 $\leq$ BMI < 25, Group III BMI $\geq$ 25) and the correlation between BMI and physical fitness was assessed. 1) The muscle strength of the subjects was measured by their grip strength, among other tests. Groups 1 and 2 were evaluated as “su” (level 1) and group 3 was “woo” (level 2). 2) Endurance 1 was tested by push-ups, and while groups 1 and 2 were evaluated as “su” (level 1), group 3 was “ga” (level 5). This result did not suggest any significant relevance among the subjects. 3) Endurance 2 was tested by sit-ups : groups 1 and 2 were evaluated as “mi” (level 3) and group 3 as “yang” (level 4). Group 2 and group 3 showed a significant difference. 4) Instant power was tested by standing high jumps, and although there was a significant difference between group 1 and group 3, all of the subjects were evaluated as “ga” (level 5). 5) Flexibility was measured by how far the subjects could bend forward. There was no significant relevance between the groups and they were all respectively evaluated as “woo” (level 2). 6) Agility was tested with side-steps and all the subjects showed poor agility as “yang” (level 4). 7) Heart and lung endurance was tested by the step test, calculating the maximum oxygen intake with the Physical Energy Index (PEI) and using the numbers according to the evaluation chart. Group 1 was evaluated as “mi” (level 3) and groups 2 and 3 were “woo” (level 2). From these results, we could see the group III (obese group) had a tendency of lower levels in all the variables related to body fitness They showed significantly lower endurance assessed with time for sit-ups and instant power by the standing high jumps. How Does 12-weeks of Taekwondo Training Effect Older Persons' Functional Fitness: A Preliminary Study

  • PURPOSE: This pre-post intervention study aimed to examine the effects of a 12-week supervised modified Taekwondo exercise program on the functional fitness of community-dwelling older adults. METHODS: 10 participants (mean age: 72.3 ± 4.6 years) completed the program over a 12-week period. The intervention consisted of Taekwondo-based exercises modified for older persons. Changes to functional fitness were measured using the finger-to-nose test, functional reach test, timed up and go test, 30-second sit-to-stand test, 30-second arm curl test, Chester step test, chair sit-and-reach test, and back scratch test. Participants were assessed prior to the training and after the final training session, changes were measured using descriptive statistics and paired sample 't' tests. RESULTS: Effect sizes ranged from small to large (Cohen's d = .22 to 1.23). The exercise program was well- tolerated by participants, with a high level of engagement and no attrition for the duration of the program. Results showed significant improvements in most measures of functional fitness (p < .05) except for the back scratch test (p = .051). CONCLUSION: These findings suggest a well-designed, supervised, modified Taekwondo exercise program can significantly improve functional fitness in older adults.

The Relationship between Depressive Symptoms and Modifiable Lifestyle Risk Factors in Office Workers

  • Background: This study investigated the relationship between depressive symptoms and physical fitness, obesity indices, and vitamin D status in office workers. Methods: The subjects were 514 adults with more 30 years of experience as office workers in the city of Seoul. Lifestyle risk factors, obesity indices, physical fitness, and serum vitamin D levels were assessed with a standardized protocol. The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) was used to assess depression status. Vitamin D status was assessed by measuring serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentrations. Based on the BDI scores, participants were classified into no depression (ND, $BDI{\leq}9$), mild depression (MiD, $10{\leq}BDI{\leq}15$), and moderate depression (MoD, $16{\leq}BDI{\leq}23$) groups. Results: Compared with the high cardiorespriatory fitness group, the low cardiorespiratory fitness (men OR=2.618, women OR=1.596) an middle cardiorespiratory fitness group (men OR=1.256, women OR=1.110) had significantly higher odds ratio for having depressive symptoms, even after adjustment for age, hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, cardiovascular disease, alcohol intake, smoking, body mass index (BMI), percent body fat (%BF), and waist circumference (WC). Compared with the insufficient or deficient vitamin D group , the sufficient vitamin D group had significantly lower odds ratios for having depressive symptoms (men OR=0.121, women OR=0.114), even after adjustment for age, hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, cardiovascular disease, alcohol intake, smoking, BMI, %BF, and WC. Conclusion: Vitamin D supplementation and outdoor activities should be key components of a lifestyle intervention against office workers' depression.
