Optimization of Low Power CMOS Baseband Analog Filter-Amplifier Chain for Direct Conversion Receiver

  • A low power CMOS receiver baseband analog circuit based on alternating filter and gain stage is reported. For the given specifications of the baseband analog block, optimum allocation of the gain, IIP3 and NF of the each block was performed to minimize current consumption. The fully integrated receiver BBA chain is fabricated in $0.18\;{\mu}m$ CMOS technology and IIP3 of 30 dBm with a gain of 55 dB and noise figure of 31 dB are obtained at 4.86 mW power consumption.

  • In this paper, we describe the structure and the test results of a Bluetooth baseband module we have developed. The module has a distributed buffer, i.e. FIFO, for data stream. Bus interface of the module is designed on the basis of interface of microprocessor widely used and the external interface is designed to consider chips connected directly. Since the module performs as many hardware efficient tasks as possible, processing load of microprocessor is very small. It can also be controlled either by software or by hardware for flexibility. The fully synthesizable baseband module was fabricated in a $0.25\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS technology occupying $2.79\times2.8{\textrm{mm}^2}$ area. And an FPGA implementation of this module is tested for file and bit-stream transfers between PCs.

  • 본 논문에서는 기존의 설계 방법의 문제점을 해결하기 위한 설계 방법인 플랫폼 기반 설계에서 사용할 수 있는 DSP 기반 플랫폼을 구현하였다. 구현된 DSP 기반 플랫폼을 AMBA AHB 버스를 바탕으로한 듀얼프로세서 플랫폼과 crossbar switch 구조의 버스 구조를 가지고 4개의 프로세서를 연결한 멀티프로세서 플랫폼으로 확장하여 검증함으로서 이질적인 환경에서 동작함을 나타내었다. 멀티프로세서 플랫폼에서는 DVB-T baseband 수신기를 HW/SW 분할 구현하고 성능 평가를 수행하였다. DSP 기반 플랫폼은 유연성, 확장성, 고속의 연산의 특징을 가진다.

  • This paper implements 2X2 MIMO Long Term Evolution (LTE) base station using Software defined radio (SDR) technology. The implemented base station system processes baseband signals on a Graphics Processor Unit(GPU). GPU is a high-speed parallel processor which provides very important advantage of using a very powerful C-based programming environment that is Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA). The implemented software-based base station system processes baseband signals through GPU. It utilizes USRP2 as its RF transceiver. In order to guarantee a real-time processing of LTE baseband signals, we have adopted well-known signal processing algorithms such as frame synchronization algorithms, ML detection, etc. using GPU operating in parallel processing.

Design of Baseband Analog Chain with Optimum Allocation of Gain and Filter Rejection for WLAN Applications

  • This paper describes a baseband analog (BBA) chain for wireless local area network (WLAN) applications. For the given specifications of the receiver BBA chain, the optimum allocation of the gain and filter rejection of each block in a BBA chain is achieved to maximize the SFDR. The fully integrated BBA chain is fabricated in 0.13 ${\mu}m$ CMOS technology. An input-referred third-order intercept point (IIP3) of 22.9 dBm at a gain of 0.5 dB and an input-referred noise voltage (IRN) of 32.2 nV/${\surd}$Hz at a gain of 63.3 dB are obtained. By optimizing the allocation of the gain and filter rejection using the proposed design methodology, an excellent SFDR performance of 63.9 dB is achieved with a power consumption of 12 mW.

이동통신용 기저대역 채널 시뮬레이터의 구현에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Implementation of Baseband Channel Simulator for Mobile Communications)

  • In this paper, the mobile communication CH simulator is implemented in the baseband, using the Digital Signal Processor(TMS320C25), A/D and D/A converters. The Rayleigh CH is modeled by shaping the random noise source power spectrum. The statistical characteristics(Level Crossing Rate, Cumulative distribution Function, Probability Density Function) and the received fading signal's power's spectrum is observed when the doppler frequency is varied according to the variation of the vehicular velocity at the 222MHz band. And also the BER is measured when the baseband mobile CH simulator is applied to the GMSK(Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying` transmission rate: 16kbps, Bb T=0.25) modulator. The results shows the similar characteristics to be compared with the theoritically derived BER values of the discriminator type GMSK detection.

  • 본 논문에서는 DSP(Digital Signal Processor)를 이용해 INMARSAT-M 위성통신용 단말기 중의 변ㆍ복조부를 설계하였다. R-RC(ROOt Raised Cosine) 필터에 의해 대역제한된 OQPSK 파형의 발생과 디지털 정합필터(Matched filter)를 이용한 OQPSK 복조, 부호율 1/2이고 구속장이 7인 길쌈부호기 및 클록 복구(Clock recovery)의 구현 알고리즘을 C언어와 어셈블리어로 작성하고, 모뎀을 실제 제작하여 변조기능, 복조기능으로 나누어서 동작 특성을 살펴보았다.

  • SSB(Single Sideband) modulation scheme is high bandwidth efficient method in the mobile communication system compared with present DSB(Double Sideband) modulation scheme. Using the othogonality between inphase PN code and Hilbert transformed quadrature PN code, we propose phase estimation structure that enables coherent demodulation in the reverse link basestation receiver Several system characteristics, bit error rate and phase error variance, are simulated and compared with balanced QPSK DS/CDMA system. To verify system performance, SSB/BPSK-DS/CDMA test board is implemented using FPGA chips.

  • We present an improved 4800 bps LPC vocoder system that virtually eleminates the buzzy effect from synthetic speech. Excitation signal in the new system is formed by adding high-pass filtered pitch pulses or random noise to a baseband residual signal that has been coded by pitch predictive PCM. Since the baseband residual is used as a part of excitation, the system is also robust to V/UV and pitch errors. According to our informal listening tests, the synthetic speech of the new system does not have the buzzy effect. As a result the vocoder speech quality is more natural than that of a conventioinal LPC vocoder.

  • This paper presents a new baseband modulation system for the reception improvement of VSB system in dynamic multipath channel. By introducing the 1/2 Trellis Coded Modulation in baseband modulation, the TOV of proposed modulation is improved very much compared with 8-VSB modulation and better than the pseudo 2-VSB modulation of Philips which is the most robust modulation for VSB transmission system as far. Through the computer simulation, the performance of the proposed modulation is examined and the results are shown.
