  • Since metallic foam will increase the performance of heat exchanger, it have caused many researcher's attention recently. Our research base on the model that metallic foams applied to heat exchanger. In this case, there is three kind of heat transfer mechanisms, heat conduction in fibers, heat transfer by conduction in fluid phase, and internal heat change between solid and fluid phases. In this paper, we first discuss the acceptance of applying thermal equilibrium among the two phases. then to calculate the dimensionless temperature profile along 7 metallic foams. The 7 samples have different characteristics, such as area ratio, effective conductivity, porosity, etc.

  • Mesothermal, tellurium-bearing gold-silver vein mineralization of the Yuryang mine was formed in mineralogically complex quartz-sulfide veins that filled the fault fractures in Precambrian gneiss within Gyeonggi Massif. Ore grades average 179 g/ton gold with a gold/silver ratio of 1.5 : 1. Ore mineralization was deposited in single stage. Major ore mineralization can be divided into two mineralization phases with increasing paragenetic time: Fe-sulfide and base-metal mineralization phase $\rightarrow$ telluride mineralization phase. • A lot of parts in FGD (Flue Gas Desulfurization) systems of fossil-fuel power plants show the environments in which are highly changeable and extremely acidic corrosive medium according to time and locations, e.g. in duct works, coolers and re-heaters etc. These conditions are formed when system materials are immersed in fluid that flows on them or when exhausted gas is condensed into thin layered acidic medium to contact materials of the system walls and roofs. These environments make troublesome corrosion and air pollution problems that are occurred from the leakage of the condensed solution. To cathodically protect the metallic structures in extremely acidic fluid, the properties of the protective coatings on the metal surface were very important, and epoxy Novolac coating was applied in this work. On the base of acid immersion tests, hot sulfuric acid decreased the hardness of the coatings and reduced greatly the content of $Na_2O$, $Al_2O_3$, and $SiO_2$ among the main components of the coating. A special kind of CP(Cathodic Protection) system has been developed and tested in a real scale of the FGD facility. Applied coating for this CP system was peeled off and cracked in some parts of the facility. However, the exposed metal surface to extremely acidic fluid by the failure of the coatings was successfully protected by the new CP system.

  • Eonyang amethyst deposits are thought to be spatially and temporally associated with the biotite granite of the Kyeongsang Basin. The examined euhedral quartz crystals in cavities in the aplite intruded biotite granite are colored-zoned from white at the base to amethystine at the tops. Three types of primary Inclusions were observed and three is representing each types are constructed to constrain the trapping conditions and fluid evolution involved during the formation of the amethyst. The intersection of the isochore representing the early fluid inclusions with solidus temperature of the host granite indicates initial quartz formation at about $600^{\circ}C$ and 1.0-1.5 kbars . Intermediate quartz formation, associated with the high-salinity inclusions, occurred at somewhat lower temperatures ($400^{circ}c$) and pressures of about 1 kbar. The amethystine quartz formed from $H_2O$-$CO_2$-NaCl fluids at temperatures between 280-$400^{circ}c$ and pressures of about 1 kbar. Early quartz is interpreted to have formed from fluids that either exsolved from or were in equilibrium with the granite at near solidus conditions, whereas the amethystine quartz apparently grew from fluids of at least partial sedimentary origin.

  • Septoplasty/septorhinoplasty is a common ear, nose and throat procedure offered for those patients with deviated septum who are suffering from nasal obstruction and functional or cosmetic problems. Although it is a basic and simple procedure, it could lead to catastrophic complications including major skull base injuries which result in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks. We describe two different cases of traumatic CSF leaks following septoplasty/septorhinoplasty at two different sites. The first patient suffered a CSF leak following septoplasty and presented to Alexandria University Hospital. The leak was still active at presentation and identified as coming from a defect in the roof of the sphenoid sinus and was repaired surgically. The second patient presented 4 days after her cosmetic septorhinoplasty with a CSF leak and significant pneumocephalus. She was managed conservatively. Understanding the anatomical variations of the paranasal sinuses and implementing proper surgical techniques are crucial in preventing intracranial complications when performing either septoplasty or septorhinoplasty. A good quality computed tomography of the nose and paranasal sinuses is a valuable investigation to avoid major complications especially CSF leaks following either procedure.

  • A heated square cylinder (with height $A^*$) is kept parallel to the cold wall at a fixed gap height $0.5A^*$ from the wall. Another adiabatic rectangular cylinder (of same height $A^*$ and width $0.5A^*$) is placed upstream in an inline tandem arrangement. The spacing between the two cylinders is fixed at $3.0A^*$. The inlet flow is taken as Couette-Poiseuille flow based non-linear velocity profile. The conventional fluid (also known as base fluid) is chosen as water (W) whereas the nanoparticle material is selected as $Al_2O_3$. Numerical simulations are performed by using SIMPLE algorithm based Finite Volume approach with staggered grid arrangement. The dependencies of hydrodynamic and heat transfer characteristics of the cylinder on non-dimensional parameters governing the nanofluids and the fluid flow are explored here. A critical discussion is made on the mechanism of improvement/reduction (due to the presence of the upstream cylinder) of heat transfer and drag coefficient, in comparison to those of an isolated cylinder. It is observed that the heat transfer increases with the increase in the non-linearity in the incident velocity profile at the inlet. For the present range studied, particle concentration has a negligible effect on heat transfer.

  • A simplified method for earthquake response analysis of a rectangular liquid storage tank is proposed with fluid-structure interaction considered. In order to simplify the complex three-dimensional structural behavior of a rectangular liquid storage tank, it is assumed that structural deformation does not occur in the plane parallel to the direction in which the earthquake ground motion is applied but in the plane perpendicular to the direction. The structural deformation is approximated by combining the natural modes of the simple beam and the cantilever beam. The hydrodynamic pressure, the structure's mass and stiffness, and the hydrodynamic pressure's added mass are derived by applying the Rayleigh-Ritz method. The natural frequency, structural deformation, pressure, effective mode mass, and effective mode height of the rectangular liquid storage tank are obtained. The structural displacement, hydrodynamic pressure, base shear, and overturning moment are calculated. The seismic response analysis of an example rectangular liquid storage tank is performed using the proposed simplified approach, and its accuracy is verified by comparing the results with the reference solution by the finite element method. Existing seismic design codes based on the hydrodynamic pressure in rigid liquid storage tanks are observed to produce results with significant errors that cannot be ignored.

  • This study proposes a novel use of backpropagated Levenberg-Marquardt neural networks based on computational intelligence heuristics to comprehend the examination of hybrid nanoparticles on the flow of dusty liquid via stretched cylinder. A two-phase model is employed in the present work to describe the fluid flow. The use of desulphated nanoparticles of silver and molybdenum suspended in water as base fluid. The mathematical model represented in terms of partial differential equations, Implementing similarity transformationsis model is converted to ordinary differential equations for the analysis . By adjusting the particle mass concentration and curvature parameter, a unique technique is utilized to generate a dataset for the proposed Levenberg-Marquardt neural networks in various nanoparticle circumstances on the flow of dusty liquid via stretched cylinder. The intelligent solver Levenberg-Marquardt neural networks is trained, tested and verified to identify the nanoparticles on the flow of dusty liquid solution for various situations. The Levenberg-Marquardt neural networks approach is applied for the solution of the hybrid nanoparticles on the flow of dusty liquid via stretched cylinder model. It is validated by comparison with the standard solution, regression analysis, histograms, and absolute error analysis. Strong agreement between proposed results and reference solutions as well as accuracy provide an evidence of the framework's validity.
