The Log-structured File System (LFS) collects all modified data into a memory buffer and writes them sequentially to a segment on disk. Therefore, it has the potential to utilize the maximum bandwidth of storage devices where sequential writes are much faster than random writes. However, as disk space is finite, LFS has to conduct cleaning to produce free segments. This cleaning operation is the main reason LFS performance deteriorates when file system utilization is high. To overcome painful cleaning and reduced performance of LFS, we propose the segment space recycling (SSR) scheme that directly writes modified data to invalid areas of the segments and describe the classification method of data and segment to consider locality of reference for optimizing SSR scheme. We implement U-LFS, which employs our segment space recycling scheme in LFS, and experimental results show that SSR scheme increases performance of WOLF by up to 1.9 times in HDD and 1.6 times in SSD when file system utilization is high.
Resource of wireless frequency bandwidth is gradually going to be deficient due to explosive increase of traffic and saturated non-licensed frequency band such as ISM. In the contrary, many licensed frequency bands are revealed to be low in utilization by several measurement based researches. To alleviate this inefficiency, a concept of cognitive radio is suggested. Cognitive radio lets non-licensed user exploit the licensed frequency band as long as non-licensed user does not interfere licensed user and as a result, it is possible to harness wireless frequency more efficiently. IEEE 802.22 is the first standard network with cognitive radio technology and it employs Two-Stage channel sensing mechanism to accomplish both enough licensed user protection and efficient channel utilization. In this paper, we analyze the overhead of Two-Stage channel sensing mechanism and identify the influence of channel sensing time to the overhead.

As the performance of the next-generation broadband wireless networks is dramatically enhanced, various services (i.e., education, Live video streaming, Live video conferencing, online games, etc.) have been provided to users through a smart mobile platform. Those services are usually provided by using the centralized communication server. However, since all multimedia traffic is exchanged through a communication server, it often has the scalability problem with regard to traffic management. Our main purpose is for group smart users to provide scalable live multimedia streaming service based on P2P network. To do this, we have designed an architecture of P2P-based service management for mobile group communication management and service management protocol. In order to verify the performance of the proposed scheme, we have mathematically analyzed the performance in terms of the average transmission delay and bandwid th utilization.

An Ethernet PON(Passive Optical Network) is an economical and efficient access network that has received significant research attention in recent years. A MAC(Media Access Control) protocol of PON , the next generation access network, is based on TDMA(Time Division Multiple Access) basically and can classify this protocol into a fixed length slot assignment method suitable for leased line supporting QoS(Quality of Service) and a variable length slot assignment method suitable for LAN/MAN with the best effort. For analyzing the performance of these protocols, we design an Ethernet PON model using OPNET tool. To establish the maximum efficiency of a network, we verify a MAC protocol and determine the optimal number of ONUs(Optical Network Unit) that can be accepted by one OLT(Optical Line Terminal) and propose the suitable buffer size of ONU based on analyzing the end-to-end Ethernet delay, queuing delay, throughput, and utilization.

In the wireless mobile networks, it IS important to provide the quality-of-service (QoS) guarantees as they are increasingly expected to support the multimedia applications Although the QoS provisioning problem arises in the wire-line networks as well, the mobility of hosts and the scarcity of bandwidth make QoS provisioning a challenging task in wireless mobile networks. The resource allocation to multimedia applications of varying QoS reqUlrement 15 a complex issue. In this paper, we propose a new adaptive resource allocation scheme based on the concept of the resource reservation and the renegotiation in order to guarantee the QoS of the real-tune traffic. The proposed scheme is aimed at improving the perfonnance in terms of the new call blocking rate, the bandoff dropping rate, and the bandwIdth utilization.
In recent years, there have been many researches about Ad-hoc Networks which is available to communicate freely between mobile devices by using multi-hop without any support of relay base or access point. TCP that used the most widely transport protocol in the Internet repeats packet loss and retransmission because it increases congestion window size by using reactive congestion control until packet loss occurs. As a result of this, energy of mobile device is wasted unnecessarily. In this paper, we propose TCP-New Veno in order to improve the energy efficiency of mobile device. According to the state of network, the scheme adjusts appropriate size of congestion window. Therefore, the energy efficiency of mobile device and utilization of bandwidth are improved by the scheme. From the simulation by using ns-2, we could see more improved energy efficiency with TCP-New Veno than those with TCP in Ad-hoc Networks.

A new ER feedback switch control algorithm, called EMRCA(Explicit Max-min Rate Control Algorithm), to control the ABR services traffic in the ATM networks, is proposed in this thesis. This scheme was interpreted the ACR variation residing on between a transient state and a stable state using the two thresholds that is the $TH_{high}$ and $TH_{low}$ in the queue to detect switch nodes congestion, and decreased the difference of minimum and maximum ACR all active connection to enhance the line bandwidth utilization. The proiposed scheme used a minimum and maximum rate of all active connections to select the connection whose the congestion rate inveoked, and uses a congestion detection mechanixm to prevent some potential cogestion by regulating selected contection.s The EMRCA scheme showed ACR variation more stable that the EPRCA scheme, also reduced buffer size of the switch, and achieved higher link utilization than the EPRCA scheme.

Exact prediction of resource demands for future calls enhances the efficiency of the limited resource utilization in resource reservation methods for potential calls in wireless IP networks. In this paper, we propose a LMS-Wiener resource(bandwidth) prediction for future handoff calls, and then an the proposed method is compared with an existing Wiener-based method in terms of prediction error through our simulations. In our simulations, we assume that handoff call arrivals follow a non-Poisson process and each handoff call has an non-exponentially distributed channel holdingtime in the cell, considering that handoff call arrival pattern is not Poisson distribution but non-Poisson for long periods of time in wireless picocellular IP networks. Simulation results show that the prediction error in the proposed method converges to the lower value while in an existing method increase as time is passed. Therefore we may conclude that the proposed method improves the efficiency of resource utilization by more exactly predicting resource demands for future handoff calls than an existing method.

Ad hoc networks can be used under difficult conditions, where it is difficult to construct infrastructures, such as shadowing areas, disaster areas, war area, and so on. In order to support to considerable and various wireless services, more spectrum resources are needed. However, efficient utilization of the frequency resource is difficult because of spectrum scarcity and the conventional frequency regulation. Ad-hoc networks employing cognitive radio(CR) system that guarantee high spectrum utilization provide effective way to increase the network capacity. However, there is a problem that all CR user do not fairly use the primary user's idle bandwidth which has been sensed. In this paper, to solve this problem, we propose the spectrum sharing algorithm which uses the multiple orthogonal sequences based on the code division multiple access(CDMA). From the proposed algorithm, it is expected that system performance of CR based ad-hoc network is improved significantly and it can be applied to the implementation of CR based ad-hoc network system.
Although the proliferation of real-time multimedia services over the Internet might indicate its successfulness in dealing with heterogeneous environments, it is obvious, on the other hand, that the internet now has to cope with a flood of multimedia data which consumes most of network communication channels due to a great deal of video or audio streams. Therefore, for the purpose of an efficient and appropriate utilization of network resources, it requires to develop and deploy a new scalable transmission technique n consideration of respective network environment and individual clients computing power. Also, we can eliminate the waste effects of storage device and data transmission overhead in that the same video stream duplicated according to QoS. The purpose of this paper is to develop a technology that can adjust the amount of data transmitted as an MPEG video stream according to its given communication bandwidth, and technique that can reflect dynamic bandwidth while playing a video stream. For this purpose, we introduce a media scalable media decomposer working on server side, and a scalable media composer working o n a client side, and then propose a scalable transmission method and a media sender and a media receiver in consideration of dynamic QoS. Those methods proposed her can facilitate an effective use of network resources, and provide multimedia MPEG video services in real-time with respect to individual client computing environment.
