The most important issue in providing multimedia traffic on a mobile computing environments is to guarantee the mobile host(client) with consistent QoS(Quality of Service). However, the QoS negotiated between the client and network in one cell may not be honored due to client mobility, causing hand-offs between cells. In this paper, a call admission control mechanism is proposed to provide consistent QoS guarantees for multimedia traffics in a mobile computing environment. Each cell can reserve fractional bandwidths for hand-off calls to its adjacent cells. It is important to determine the right amount of reserved bandwidth for hand-off calls because the blocking probability of new calls may increase if the amount of reserved bandwidth is more than necessary. An adaptive bandwidth reservation based on an MPP(Mobility Pattern Profile) and a 2-tier cell structure has been proposed to determine the amount of bandwidth to be reserved in the cell and to control dynamically its amount based on its network condition. We also propose a call admission control based on this bandwidth reservation and "next-cell prediction" scheme using an MPP. In order to evaluate the performance of our call admission control mechanism, we measure the metrics such as the blocking probability of our call admission control mechanism, we measure the metrics such as the blocking probability of new calls, dropping probability of hand-off calls, and bandwidth utilization. The simulation results show that the performance of our mechanism is superior to that of the existing mechanisms such as NR-CAT1, FR-CAT1, and AR-CAT1.

This paper proposes a TDMA-based multichannel medium access control (MAC) protocol for QoS provisioning in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) that enables nodes to transmit their packets in distributed channels. The IEEE 802.11 standard supports multichannel operation at the physical (PHY) layer but its MAC protocol is designed only for a single channel. The single channel MAC protocol does not work well in multichannel environment because of the multichannel hidden terminal problem. Our proposed protocol enables nodes to utilize multiple channels by switching channels dynamically, thus increasing network throughput. Although each node of this protocol is equipped with only a single transceiver but it solves the multichannel hidden terminal problem using temporal synchronization. The proposed energy efficient multichannel MAC (EM-MAC) protocol takes the advantage of both multiple channels and TDMA, and achieves aggressive power savings by allowing nodes that are not involved in communications to go into power saving "sleep mode". We consider the problem of providing QoS guarantee to nodes as well as to maintain the most efficient use of scarce bandwidth resources. Our scheme improves network throughput and lifetime significantly, especially when the network is highly congested. The simulation results show that our proposed scheme successfully exploits multiple channels and significantly improves network performance by providing QoS guarantee in MANETs.
Guaranteed Frame Rate(GFR), recently approved by the ATM Forum, expects to become an important service category to efficiently support TCP/IP traffic in ATM networks. The GFR service not only guarantees a minimum service rate at the frame level, but also supports a fair share of available bandwidth. We proposed new scheduling scheme for the GFR service. Proposed scheme provides priority to VCs and high priority to a VC which have more untagged cells in buffer. High priority VCs have much more serviced than low priority. Proposed scheme can provide MCR(minimum cell rate) guarantee and fair sharing to GFR VCs. Computer simulation results show that proposed scheduling scheme provide a much better performance in TCP goodput and fairness than previous scheme.

ATM Form has defined the guaranteed frame rate (GFR) service to provide minimum cell rate (MCR) guarantees for TCP traffic in ATM networks and allow it to fairly share residual bandwidth. GFR switch implementation consists of the frame-based generic cell rate algorithm (F-GCRA) and a frame forwarding mechanism. The F-GCRA identifies frames that are eligible for an MCR guarantee. The frame forwarding mechanism buffers cells at a frame unit according to information provided by the F-GCRA and forwards the buffered cells to an output port according to its scheduling discipline. A simple GFR mechanism with shared buffer with a global threshold is a feasible implementation mechanism, but has been known that it is insufficient to guarantee the MCR. This paper has estimated performance of GFR service for TCP traffic over ATM switches with the simple FIFO-based mechanism
In the current Internet, it is difficult for an Internet Phone to guarantee the QoS due to variable network conditions such as packet loss rate, delay and bandwidth. In addition, the QoS of an Internet Video Phone is more hard to guarantee because of video data. In this paper, we investigate application-level QoS control schemes that can adapt to variable network conditions, and describe an error control scheme and a congestion control scheme. Based on these QoS control schemes, we have designed and implemented an Internet Video Phone System that supports adaptive audio and video delivery. Through experiments, we found that the Internet Video Phone can reduce the packet loss rate considerably as well as adjust the transmission rate considering other TCP flows.

Increase of internet users and new type of applied traffic such as game, news, distributed computing, online image conference, and real time audio and video have leaded to demand for more bandwidth for each application. This algorithm represents a complex optical exchanger having typical wavelength switching function and time-slotted transmission function. Performance assessment of the proposed OXC (Optical Cross connect) sttucture defines LFS (Limit Frame Size) and VFS (Variable Frame Size) for classification by packet type and calculates the channel effect and loss probability depending the demanded bandwidth by access node increase. Optical exchanger in this type of structure can guarantee future network expansion as well as decrease of frame collision resulted from node increase.

Recently, communication industry based on data and voice and broadcasting industry centering around images have been rapidly blended. Thereupon, this article aims to suggest a multi-approach method which minimizes the use of network bandwidth allowing multimedia streaming transmission to secure IP-based continuity and let users get multimedia services of one channel or several simultaneously. Also, this study intends to design a buffering strategy that can absorb network delay and an object model to assign and maintain stable channel bandwidth.
MAC(Medium Access Control) is demanded to provide end-to-end QoS(Quality of Service) for a variety of traffic in the wireless networks. When all the traffic is integrated in the channel, the main difficulty of the MAC protocol is how to efficiently support multi-class traffic in the limited bandwidth wireless channel. In this paper, we proposed the dynamic bandwidth slot method for improving QoS of the real time traffics. In this paper, we used in-band scheme to send dynamic parameter and considering buffer size and delay variation, we enabled 2 state bits to send to base station in mobile station. The proposed algorithm is to guarantee QoS of real time traffic and maximize transfer efficiency in wireless networks.

The Gauranteed Frame Rate service category was proposed by the ATM Forum as an enhancement to the UBR service. This service aims to support minimum cell rate gaurantee for each virtual connection and allow any excess bandwidth in the network to be shared among the contending VCs in a fair manner. We propose a new buffer management algorithm for GFR service through FIFO queuing discipline. Proposed scheme can provide minimum bandwidth guarantee for GFR VCs as well as improve the fairness among the competing GFR VCs on a single FIFO queue. From simulation results, we demonstrate the proposed scheme fulfills the requirement of GFR service as well as improves the TCP throughput.

Recently, there have been many researches and developments in optical disc drive by high density of track and high access speed. Therefore, the optical pick-up should guarantee highly accurate dynamic characteristics for the wide bandwidth in order to cope with this trend. These demands for optical pick-up actuator can be solved by improvements of lens-holder through the following methods. The first way is the analysis of the sensitivity matrix of design variables for vibration modes after appropriate design parameters are selected like shapes and local dimensions of a lens-holder. The second way is the optimization of design variables by calculating sequential linear programming after the problem of extending bandwidth are converted to problem of minimizing adequate objective function. In the result, modified FE model is obtained through several iterations by finite difference scheme(FDS). While results of the first way show better convergence of the target frequency, the second result shows better reduction of mass increase.
