Quality Adaptation of Intra-only Coded Video Transmission over Wireless Networks

  • Variable wireless channel is a big challenge for real-time video applications, and the rate adaptation of realtime video streaming becomes a hot topic. Intra-video coding is important for high-quality video communication and industrial video applications. In this paper, we proposed a novel adaptive scheme for real-time video transmission with intra-only coding over a wireless network. The key idea of this scheme is to estimate the instantaneous remaining capacity of the network to adjust the quality of the next several video frames, which not only can keep low queuing delay and ensure video quality, but also can respond to bandwidth changes quickly. We compare our scheme with three different schemes in the video transmission system. The experimental results show that our scheme has higher bandwidth utilization and faster bandwidth change response, while maintaining low queuing delay.

  • This study investigates the feasibility of detecting structural damage using the HHT method. A damage detection index, the ratio of bandwidth (RB) is proposed. This index is highly correlated or approximately equal to the change of equivalent damping ratio for an intact structure incurring damage from strong ground motions. Based on an analysis of shaking table test data from benchmark models subjected to adjusted Kobe and El Centro earthquakes, the damage detection index is evaluated using the Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT) and the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) methods, respectively. Results indicate that, when the response of the structure is in the elastic region, the RB value only slightly changes in both the HHT and the FFT spectra. Additionally, RB values estimated from the HHT spectra vs. the PGA values change incrementally when the structure response is nonlinear i.e., member yielding occurs, but not in the RB curve from the FFT spectra. Moreover, the RB value of the top floor changes more than those from the other floors. Furthermore, structural damage is detected only when using the acceleration response data from the top floor. Therefore, the ratio of bandwidth RB estimated from the smoothed HHT spectra is an effective and sensitive damage index for detecting structural damage. Results of this study also demonstrate that the HHT is a powerful method in analyzing the nonlinear responses of steel structures to strong ground motions.

  • The paper investigates the change of frequency response characteristics on two-stage gear reduction servo system according to the variation of backlash amount of each gear reduction stage, under the condition that the backlash of total system is constant. It is shown that the frequency response characteristics of the system heavily depend on the contribution ratio which is defined as a ratio of the first backlash amount to the total backlash. It is also found that there is an optimal backlash combination to maximize the bandwidth of two-stage gear reduction servo system when the allowable total backlash is determined.

배관 압력을 이용한 방향제어밸브 위상각 대역폭 주파수 측정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Phase Bandwidth Frequency of a Directional Control Valve Based on the Hydraulic Line Pressure)

  • Spool displacement of a direction control valve is the standard signal to measure the bandwidth frequency of the direction control valve. When the spool displacement signal is not available, it is suggested in this study to use the metering hydraulic line as an alternative way to measure - 90 degree phase bandwidth frequency of the hydraulic direction control valve. Dynamics of the hydraulic line is composed of inertia, capacitance, and friction effects. The effect of oil inertia is dominant in common hydraulic line dynamics and the line dynamics is close to a derivative action in a range of high frequency; such as a range of bandwidth frequency of common directional control valves. Phase difference between spool displacement and line load pressure is nearly constant as a valve close to 90 degree. If phase difference is compensated from the phase between valve input and pressure, compensated phase may be almost same as the phase of spool displacement that is a standard signal to measure phase bandwidth frequency of the directional control valve. A series of experiments were conducted to examine the possibility of using line pressure in to measure phase bandwidth frequency of a directional control valve. Phase bandwidth frequency could be measured with relatively high precision based on metering hydraulic line technique and it reveals consistent results even when valve input, oil temperature, and supply pressure change.

  • This paper introduces the machine tools feed system, which can be optimized the control's performance through simulation and the adjustment of the mechanical components. One method simulates the frequency response of the speed-loop with the design value using the MATLAB application, so that all of the interpolation axis can be equal to the response bandwidth, resulting in a high accuracy rate. The other method sees the mechanical component being adjusted by analyzing the results of various experiments. Lastly, this client's program is able to change the parameters that are related to the FFD, as well as the parameters in the friction compensation of the OPEN-CNC.

  • NUMa 구조는 원격 메모리에 대한 접근이 불가피한 구조적 특성 때문에 상호 연결망이 시스템 성능을 좌우하는 큰 변수가 된다. 기존에 대중적으로 사용되던 버스는 물리적 확장성 및 대역폭에서 대규모 시스템을 구성하는데 한계를 보인다. 이를 대체하는 고속의 지점간 링크를 사용한 이중 링구조는 버스가 가지는 확장성 및 대역폭의 한계라는 단점을 개선하였으나, 많은 노드가 연결되는 경우에는 응답 지연시간이 증가하는 문제점을 가지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 스누핑 프로토콜이 적용된 이중 일 구조에서 노드개수 증가에 따른 응답지연시간 증가의 문제점을 보안하기 위해 코달 링 구조로의변화를 제안하고 이 구조에 효과적인 링크 제어기를 설계한다. 또한 확률 구동 시뮬레이터를통해 본 논문을 통해 제시한 코달 링 구조가 시스템의 성능 및 응답시간에 미치는 영향을 알아본다.

광 수신시스템에서 버터워쓰필터의 주파수 응답 효과에 관한 영향 (A Effect of Frequency Response Effect of Butter-Worth Filter on Optical Receive System)

  • 정보전송시스템의 백본 역할을 하고 있는 광시스템에서는 시스템의 성능평가 및 최적화를 위해 신호와 잡음의 통계 특성에 대한 평가가 필수적이다. 광 수신시스템에서는 수신감도를 개선하기 위해 광 검출기 전단에 광증폭기를 채용하여 수신감도를 개선하고 있으나 광 검출기의 출력부에 첨가되는 ASE 잡음으로 인해 광수신기에서 광신호에 대한 전자신호의 대역폭이 비가 변화되는 문제점 또한 존재한다. 이러한 신호들의 대역폭의 비의 변화 문제는 출력단에 존재하는 필터의 통과대역 특성에 따라 변화하게 되는데, 주파수 응답 효과는 무한대의 차수를 갖는 필터를 구성하면 해결할 수 있으나 이를 실제 구현하는 것은 거의 불가능하므로 본 논문에서는 버터 워쓰 필터를 구현하여 필터의 차수에 따른 광 수신시스템의 주파수 응답 특성을 평가하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과를 통해 Butter-Worth 필터의 차수 N이 증가하면 필터의 수신감도가 증가됨을 확인 할 수 있었다. 또한 다양한 nsp값의 변화에 대한 시뮬레이션 결과 nsp가 증가할수록 수신감도가 증가함을 확인할 수 있었다. 즉, nsp에 따라 광전류의 평균치는 증가하고 분산은 감소하기 때문인 것으로 평가할 수 있다.

비선형회귀 분석을 통한 난지형 마늘의 적지기준 설정연구 (Setting Criteria of Suitable Site for Southern-type Garlic Using Non-linear Regression Model)

  • 본 연구는 현장관측자료의 분석을 통해 현장데이터 기반 생육적온 분석 및 재배적지 분석 기준을 제시하고자 하였다. 연구에 활용된 현장 데이터는 고흥, 남해, 신안, 창녕, 해남 등 5개 지역의 난지형 마늘 생산량데이터를 구득하였으며, 관측소별 관측값을 역거리 가중법(Inverse Distance Weighted)를 통해 지역내 농경지 기온데이터를 추출하였다. 데이터 분석에 활용된 기간은 2010년부터 2019년까지 10년간 데이터를 활용하였다. 조사된 생산량과 기온의 국소(Kernel)회귀분석을 통해 생육적온을 분석하였으며, 대역폭에 따라 0.8(18.781℃), 0.9(18.930℃), 1.0(19.542℃), 1.1(20.165℃), 1.2(21.042℃)이었다. 생육적온의 검증 및 재배적지 기준 적용을 위해 온도반응모델을 진행하였다. 분석된 생육적온과 생산량데이터 간의 회귀 분석 및 상관 분석을 수행결과 결정계수(R2)는 0.325~0.438로 분석되었으며, 상관관계 분석에서는 유의 확률 0.001 수준에서 상관계수 0.57~0.66로 분석되었다. 전체적으로 대역폭이 증가함에 따라 결정 계수가 더 높아졌으나 대역폭 1.0을 제외한 모든 대역폭에서는 편향된 결과로 일부 데이터가 모델에 크게 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 이에 비선형분석을 통해 모든 데이터가 평이하게 반영된 모델인 대역폭 1.0이 본 연구 목적에 적합한 것으로 분석되었다.

A Lock-Time Improvement for an X-Band Frequency Synthesizer Using an Active Fast-Lock Loop Filter

  • In phase-locked frequency synthesizers, a fast-lock technique is frequently employed to overcome the trade-off between a lock-time and a spurious response. The function of fast-lock in a conventional PLL (Phased Lock Loop) IC (Integrated Circuit) is limited by a factor of 16, which is usually implemented by a scaling of charge pumper, and consequently a lock time improvement of a factor of 4 is possible using the conventional PLL IC. In this paper, we propose a novel external active fast-lock loop filter. The proposed loop filter provides, conceptually, an unlimited scaling of charge pumper current, and can overcome conventional trade-off between lock-time and spur suppression. To demonstrate the validity of our proposed loop-filter, we fabricated an X-band frequency synthesizer using the proposed loop filter. The loop filter in the synthesizer is designed to have a loop bandwidth of 100 kHz in the fast-lock mode and a loop bandwidth of 5 kHz in the normal mode, which corresponds to a charge pumper current change ratio of 400. The X-band synthesizer shows successful performance of a lock-time of below 10 ${\mu}sec$ and reference spur suppression below -64 dBc.

  • High precision sensing is very important in various technologies. Especially, it is more important when it were applied to nano/micro meter level's sensing like AFM, storage, etc. And capacitive sensing is widely used method. To improve the measurement efficiency, many signal conditioners were studied and one of them was surface acoustic wave (SAW) device. SAW device is very widely used as a high frequency bandwidth filter. Due to the reflective characteristic of high frequency, the response of SAW device contains both propagative and reflective signal at the external impedance. In this paper, we used SAW device as signal conditioner of capacitive sensor. And high precision gap measurement was executed using capacitive load. Reference signal was reflective SAW response and the magnitude at the center frequency of SAW device by the change of impedance was checked. Finally, the attainable gap resolution was determined.
