A CMOS IR-UWB RFIC for Location Based Systems (위치 기반 시스템을 위한 CMOS IR-UWB RFIC)

  • This paper presents a fully integrated 3 - 5 GHz IR-UWB(impulse radio ultra-wide band) RFIC for Location based system. The receiver architecture adopts the energy detection method and for high speed sampling, the equivalent time sampling technique using the integrated DLL(delay locked loop) and 4 bit ADC. The digitally synthesized UWB impulse generator with low power consumption is also designed. The designed IR-UWB RFIC is implemented on $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The receiver's sensitivity is -85.7 dBm and the current consumption of receiver and transmitter is 32 mA and 25.5 mA respectively at 1.8 V supply.

  • Poor speech intelligibility in an air traffic control room is frequently a result of many, quite different causes and occasionally leads to complaints of the controller personnel. The paper describes a sequence of successful tasks performed in a local control room. The initial measurements included an investigation of the background noise (caused by fans, air condition, computer and radar equipment) and performance checks of the electronic audio and communication equipment with respect to the audio transmission behavior. The spectral composition of the noise as well as the characteristics of the audio communication path between the controllers and the pilots(which showed a loss of spectral information in the audio band due to built-in notch filters for the suppression of control tones) required adaptations of the amplitude behavior of the amplifiers through user adjustable tone controls. The radar console fans, which contributed significantly to the overall noise floor of the room, underwent a substantial reconstruction by replacing the tight mounting with an elastic double suspension, reducing the noise level by 50%. Finally, a possible source of untimely fatigue of the controllers during their working hours has been found in strong spectral components of the noise above the audio band, radiated by numerous video monitors in the control through vibrating components excited by the line frequency of the video signal.

Dual Band-notched Monopole Antenna for 2.4 GHz WLAN and UWB Applications (이중대역 저지특성을 가지는 2.4 GHz WLAN 및 UWB 겸용 모노폴 안테나)

  • In the paper, a dual band-notched monopole antenna is proposed for 2.4 GHz WLAN (2.4 ~ 2.484 GHz) and UWB (3.1 ~ 10.6 GHz) applications. The 3.5 GHz WiMAX band notched characteristic is achived by a pair of L-shaped slots instead of the previous U-shaped slot on the center of the radiating patch, whereas the 7.5 GHz band notched characteristic is achived by C-shaped strip resonator placed near to the microstrip feed line. The measured impedance bandwidth (${\mid}S_{11}{\mid}{\leq}-10dB$) is 8.62 GHz (2.38 ~ 11 GHz) which is sufficient to cover 2.4 GHz WLAN and UWB band, while measured band-notched bandwidths for 3.5 GHz WiMAX and 7.5 GHz bnad are 1.13 GHz (3.15 ~ 4.28 GHz) and 800 MHz (7.2 ~ 8 GHz) respectively. In particular, it has been observed that antenna has a good omnidirectional radiation patterns and higher gain of 2.51 ~ 6.81 dBi over the entire frequency band of interest.

Characteristics of Filters for Signal Processing Applied to Wind Turbine Controllers (풍력발전 제어에 적용되는 계측신호처리 필터에 대한 특성 고찰)

  • In variable-speed variable-pitch wind turbines, the conventional approach for controlling power-production operation relies on a generator-torque controller and a rotor-collective blade-pitch controller. Both controllers use the generator speed measurement as the sole feedback input. In order to mitigate unwanted excitation of the control system, many filters are adopted. In this study, the characteristics of some filters for signal processing are investigated based on frequency response function. They include low-pass filters, band-pass filters, and notch filters. Especially, this study focuses on design parameters of their filters.

  • Interference from IEEE 802.11a systems affects ultra-wideband (UWB) systems significantly. In this letter, we suggest a novel narrow-band interference (NBI) suppression technique based on the singular value decomposition (SVD) algorithm in time-hopping pulse amplitude modulation (TH-PAM) UWB systems. The SVD algorithm is used to approximate the interference which then is subtracted from the received signals. In contrast to the conventional notch filter and rake receiver, our method is more effective and the receiver complexity can be greatly reduced.

  • 본 논문에서는 DS-확산대역 시스템에서 격자형 IIR 노치필터를 이용하여 협대역 간섭신호를 제거한다. 이를 위하여 우선 갑섭신호의 주파수와 파워가 격자형 IIR 노치필터에 의ㅏ형 추정된다. 그리고 또 다른 IIR 노치필터를 수긴기 닾에 위치시키고 노치의 위치가 추정된 갑섭신호의 주파수에 있도록 한다. 그러나 단워원 위에 영점이 존재하는 IIR 노치필터는 간섭신호 뿐만 아니라 노치부분의 신호 성분도 제거하므로 데이터의 왜곡이 발생하게 된다. 따라서 이러한 데이터의 왜곡을 줄이기 위해서 필터의 노치 깊이를 조절하는 알고리듬을 개발하였다. 이를 위해 노치필터 출력의 신호 대 잡음비를 필터 파라미터에 대한 식으로 유도하고 이를 최대로 하는 최적의 노치 깊이를 구하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과 제안한 알고리듬이 기존의 FIR 노치필터나 FIR LMS 알고리듬에 비해 좋은 성능을 갖는다는 것을 확인할 수 있다.

A Study on EMG Activation Changes of Spinal Stability Muscles during Forced Respiratory Maneuvers

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether changes in electromyography (EMG) activations of spinal stability muscles with respiratory demand change were due to changes in respiratory demand or in postural demand. Methods: Forty healthy subjects (19male, 21female, $20.8{\pm}1.9$years old) performed quiet breathing and four different forced respiratory maneuvers (FRM) (Pulsed Lip Breathing, Diaphragmatic Breathing, Combination breathing, and respiratory muscle endurance training breathing) while in sitting and standing positions. EMG data for four muscles (TrA/IO, EO, RA, and ES) were collected and filtered using a band pass filter (20~200Hz) and a notch filter (60, 120, 180Hz). Results: There were no significant differences on percentage of change on %MVIC between QB and FRM (PLB, CB, DB, and RMET) between positions (all p>0.05).

  • A new coding algorithm which has spectrum notches at the DC and Nyquist Frequency for maximizing the effect of the in-band pilot insertion in order to make the symbol timing or carrier recovery easy is proposed. It is shown that this algorithm uses one encoder and gives the similar spectrum characteristics to that of the existing OF00 code which uses two encoder. In this paper, the proposed new coding algorithm is explained andits spectrum characteristics is compared with the of OF00 code using computer simulation.

  • Narrowband signals can be treated like a single tone interference at the receiver which demodulates wideband signals spectrum overlaid at the same frequency band. In this paper, the single tone interference is effectively suppressed by the use of a multicarrier DPSK direct-sequence(DS) spread spectrum(SS) with maximal-ratio(MR) combining instead of notch filter, which is hard to implement. A noncoherent DPSK system is considered because it is more realizable and does not require any complicate phase tracking, compared with a single carrier system subject to a constraint system bandwidth, and their performance comparisons are validated through simulation. We also propose a suboptimal-ratio(SR) combining which yields uniform and tight low bound on the performance of the MR combining, and then system parameters re optimized by theoretically evaluating the low bound, since an exact analysis appears intractable.
