슬리브 발룬을 활용한 광대역 바이코니컬 안테나의 방사패턴 개선 연구 (Use of Sleeve Baluns to Improve the Radiation Pattern of a Broadband Biconical Antenna)

  • 본 논문에서는 슬리브 발룬을 활용하여 3-40GHz에서 향상된 방사 패턴을 나타내는 바이코니컬 안테나를 설계하였다. 안테나에서 상단 원뿔의 링 가장자리는 원통으로 구성되며, 특정 주파수에서 작동하는 슬리브 발룬은 안테나에 연결되어 급전 동축 케이블 표면의 누설 전류를 최소화한다. 본 제안한 슬리브 발룬으로 방사 패턴이 개선되었으며, 3dB 빔폭각도는 3-40GHz에서 67.1-101.1° 범위로 기존 안테나의 21-99° 범위보다 훨씬 넓은 특징을 갖는다.

A Novel CPW Balanced Distributed Amplifier Using Broadband Impedance-Transforming MEMS Baluns

  • A novel balanced distributed amplifier (DA) was proposed using novel impedance transforming MEMS baluns. The impedance transforming MEMS balun is matched to $50{\Omega}$ at one input port and $25{\Omega}$ at two output ports. It is based on the electric field mode-change method, thus it is strongly independent of frequency and very compact. The novel balanced DA consists of two $25{\Omega}$-matched DAs and these are combined by $50{\Omega}$-to-$25{\Omega}$ baluns. Theoretically, it has two times wider bandwidth and power capability than the conventional DA. So as to verify the proposed concept, we designed and fabricated a conventional DA and the proposed one using 0.15-${\mu}m$ GaAs pHEMT technology.

  • A broadband microstrip balun is proposed and designed using a ${\lambda}/4$short-stub in order to compensate phase imbalance. For the demonstration, two baluns are proposed and designed using a ${\lambda}/4$ shorted stub. One is a modified form of the conventional Wilkinson balun, and the other is a modified ring hybrid. Baluns are implemented on TLX-9 substrate of which the dielectric constant is 2.54 and the thickness is 0.5mm. The measurements show a bandwidth of 500MHz at the center frequency of 2GHz.

소형 IF 발룬이 내장된 MMIC 이중 평형 저항성 혼합기 (An MMIC Doubly Balanced Resistive Mixer with a Compact IF Balun)

  • 본 논문에서는 $0.5{\mu}m$ p-HEMT 공정을 이용한 MMIC 이중 평형 저항성 혼합기를 개발하였다. 본 혼합기에는 LO, RF, IF 등의 3개의 발룬이 포함된다. $8{\sim}20\;GHz$ 범위에서 동작하는 LO와 RF 발룬은 Marchand 발룬으로 구현하였다. 칩 크기를 줄이기 위해 구부려진 다중 결합 선로를 이용하였고, 이로 인해 발생하는 모드 위상 속도 차이를 보상하기 위해 인덕터 선로를 삽입하였다. IF 발룬은 DC 결합 차동 증폭기로 구현하였다. $0.3{\times}0.5\;mm^2$ 크기를 가진 IF 발룬의 측정 결과, DC에서 7 GHz 주파수 범위에서 크기와 위상의 오차가 각각 1 dB와 $5^{\circ}$ 이내의 결과를 보였다. 개발된 $1.7{\times}1.8\;mm^2$ 크기의 이중 평형 저항성 혼합기의 측정 결과, 동작 주파수 범위에서 16dBm LO 입력 전력에 대해 삽입 손실이 $5{\sim}11\;dB$이고, 출력 OIP3가 $10{\sim}15\;dBm$인 결과를 보였다.

A New Design Approach for Asymmetric Coupled-Section Marchand Balun

  • A systematic design for asymmetric coupled-section Marchand baluns is presented. Asymmetrically coupled transmission lines in multilayer configuration are exploited for constructing Marchand baluns. Design equations for characteristic impedance and electrical length of asymmetrical coupled transmission lines are derived for establishing a systematic design procedure. Novel Marchand balun based on these design equations is composed of two identical asymmetrical coupled transmission lines. However, contrary to the general conventional design approach where ranges for characteristic impedances of coupled lines are ambiguously capitalized, values for characteristic impedance and length are explicitly expressed. Our approach is fundamentally different from the design method using coupling coefficients where solution for coupling coefficient is inherently restricted. To verify the proposed method, one design example is performed for wideband Marchand balun in multilayer configuration, and is fabricated for verifying the design procedure proposed. Maintaining the return loss more than 10 dB, the bandwidth is measured from 0.43 to 1.0 GHz, where $S_{21}$ and $S_{31}$ show better than -4 dB. The measured phase and amplitude imbalances illustrate 0.5 dB and ${\pm}5^{\circ}$, respectively.

  • 자기공진 이극안테나와 안테나 밸런을 제작하여 시험 장감쇠량 측정시스템을 구성하고, 건설된 한국표준연구소의 야외시험장의 시험장감쇠량을 측정하였다. 측정결과는 계산된 이론치와 $\pm$3dB 이내에서 일치되며, 따라서 한국표준연구소의 야외시험장은 전자파장해(EMI/EMC) 시험검사 및 안테나 교정에 사용할 수 있는 것으로 판단된다.

  • An MMIC single-balanced upconverting mixer for PCS application has been successfully developed using an MMIC process employed by 1 .mu. ion implanted GaAs MESFET and passive lumped elements consisting of spiral inductor, Si3N4 MIM capacitors and NiCr resistors. The configuration of the mixer presented in this paper is two balanced cascode FET mixers with common-source self-bias circuits for single power supply operation. The dimension of the fabricated circuit including two active baluns intermodulation characteristic with two-tone excitation are also measured, showing -28.17 dBc at IF power of -30 dBm.
