  • Contents 1We developed a new type of lower part of the human-sized BWR (biped walking robot) driven by a new actuator based on the ball screw which has high strength and high gear ratio. Each leg of the robot is composed of three pitch Joints and one roll joint. In all, a 8 degree-of-freedom robot was developed. A new type of actuator for the robot is proposed, which is composed of four bar link mechanism driven by the ball screw. The BWR was designed to walk autonomously by adapting small DC motors for the robot actuators and has an embeded controller system including host computer, batteries and motor drivers.   • Acoustic response control of a corner-pinned plate using piezoelectric wafers was studied, both theoretically and experimentally. Three different sizes of aluminum alloy plates were used and available ball joints were employed to hold the plate at the four corners. The plate with the largest aspect ratio showed the largest and most clear responses to the acoustic excitation in the range of frequencies (0~200Hz), and sound pressure levels (80~100dB) as predicted. The reduction of the acoustic response of the plate by piezoelectric actuator was very significant, more than expected, but abatement of the sound transmission through the plate was only slightly altered by the piezoelectric actuator. This work is an original work extending earlier work with doors excited by acoustic fields. The important difference is the used of ball joints to simulate the joints.

  • In this study EB(Electron Beam) welder was modified to apply EB welder to micro-joining with solder ball and Pt wire. The power and beam current of EB welder is 6kW, 100mA and the minimum current was 1mA. The minimum current of EB welder was modified to decrease the amount of beam current to 0.0lmA and the monitoring system to observe materials was made up. The control system and CAD/CAM software for e-beam direct writing was developed and the deflection beam was controlled without moving workpieces. the possibility of applying EB welder to micro-joining with solder ball and Pt wire was studied through this experiments.

  • We developed a human-sized BWR(biped walking robot) driven by a new actuator based on the ball screw which has high strength and high gear ratio. The robot overcomes the limit of the driving torque of conventional BWRs. Each leg of the robot is composed of three pitch joints and one roll joint. In all, a 10 degree-of-freedom robot with two balancing joints was developed. The BWR was developed to walk autonomously such that it is actuated by small torque motors and is boarded with DC battery and controllers. In the performance test, the BWR peformed nice motions of sitting-up and sitting-down. Through the test, we could find capability of high performance in biped-walking.

  • This paper presents a new NC machine performance test and calibration system. In order to measure NC machine erros in simpler, and less time-comsuming way, some indirect measuring systems such as circular disk system and double ball bar system have been developed instead of laser interferometer. But these indirect measuring systems have shown their limits in identifying each of NC machine error sources in absolute numerical value. Therefore, we developed an unique NC machine error measurement system which provides a simple measuring process like other conventional indirect methods and still can indentify each of NC machine error sources in absolute numerical value.

  • The present paper is a parameter study of zinc flake production using a Simoloyer CM01 horizontal high energy rotary ball mill. The manufactured flakes have a dimension in thickness (t) < $1{\mu}m$ and diameters (d) 5-100 ${\mu}m$, consequently a ratio d/t up to 200. The flake geometry is mainly controlled by the variation of process parameters such as rotary speed of the rotor, ratio of powder/ball charge, load ratio of the system, process temperature, operating model and the quantity of process control agent (PCA). The Zn flakes were characterized by SEM, tap densitometry, laser diffraction and water coverage measurement.

  • As the results of evaluation of its performance for 300 kN Ball and Socket type suspension insulators. There was electrically internal puncture of the solid insulating body of the insulating due to the steep front impulse voltage, which usually occurs puncture before external flash-over of insulators, moreover we have obtained satisfactory results in power arc test of 7.2kA cycle fatigue test with high qualify control index of 4.6, especially we have obtained more satisfactory results than that before improvement of its materials.

  • This paper describes a positioning system for ultra-precision that will be utilized in semiconductor manufacturing field and precision machinery. This system is composed with laser scale unit with 10nm resolution, ball screw with LM guide, brushless DC servo motor, vibration isolator and is equipped in chamber for continuous measuring environment. The dynamic of table, the problem of servo control and the traceability for micro step motion are described. These data will be applied for getting more stable system with 50nm resolution.

  • The demand for the re-painting of steel bridges is increasing, but surface treatment is still centered on human resources for on-site re-painting processes. Worker safety accidents continue to occur because the work is performed in a narrow space. Recently, PS balls with excellent surface treatment have been used for blasting, but the working environment is poor due to the large amount of dust generated. In this study, an effective surface treatment method using impeller blasting equipment was developed. The correlation between steel ball size, impeller rotation speed, and exposure time was studied to optimize the efficiency of the surface treatment.

  • This paper presents a neural network based variable structure control scheme for nonlinear systems. In this scheme, a set of local variable structure control laws are designed on the basis of the linear models about preselected representative points which cover the range of the system operation of interest. From the combination of the set of local variable structure control laws, neural networks infer the approximate control input in between the operating points. The neural network based variable structure control alleviates the effects of model uncertainties, which cannot be compensated by the control techniques using feedback linearization. It also relaxes the discontinuity in the system’s behavior that appears when the control schemes based on the family of the linear models are applied to nonlinear systems. Simulation results of a ball and beam system, to which feedback linearization cannot be applied, demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method.
