  • In this paper, we aim to estimate two scale-parameters of exponentiated Pareto distribution (EPD) based on lower record values. Record values arise naturally in many real life applications involving data relating to weather, sport, economics and life testing studies. We calculate the Bayesian estimators for the two parameters of EPD based on lower record values. The Bayes estimators of two parameters for the EPD with lower record values under the squared error loss (SEL), linex loss (LL) and entropy loss (EL) functions are provided. Lindley's approximate method is used to compute these estimators. We compare the Bayesian estimators in the sense of the bias and root mean squared estimates (RMSE).

  • An InGaP/GaAs MMIC LC VCO designed with Harmonic Noise Frequency Filtering(HNFF) technique is presented. In this VCO, internal inductance is found to lower the phase noise, based on an analytic understanding of phase noise. This VCO directly drives the on-chip double balanced mixer to convert RF carrier to IF frequency through local oscillator. Furthermore, final power performance is improved by output amplifier. This paper presents the design for a 1.721 GHz enhanced LC VCO, high power double balance mixer, and output amplifier that have been designed to optimize low phase noise and high output power. The presented asymmetric inductance tank(AIT) VCO exhibited a phase noise of -133.96 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset and a tuning range from 1.46 GHz to 1.721 GHz. In measurement, on-chip down-converter shows a third-order input intercept point(IIP3) of 12.55 dBm, a third-order output intercept point(OIP3) of 21.45 dBm, an RF return loss of -31 dB, and an IF return loss of -26 dB. The RF-IF isolation is -57 dB. Also, a conversion gain is 8.9 dB through output amplifier. The total on-chip down-converter is implanted in 2.56${\times}$1.07 mm$^2$ of chip area.

  • In this paper, microstrip antenna to enhance the isolation between transmitting port and receiving port under the proximity objects is proposed, and applied to the Doppler radar sensor working at 5.8GHz ISM band which detects vital signals of a human body. Two 3dB quadrature hybrids are placed around radiation patch to form a balanced structure between transmitting port and receiving port, such that it consistently provides enhanced Tx/Rx isolation and excellent return loss over nearby objects. It is theoretically analyzed and simulated to verify the validity of the proposed application. The fabricated antenna that is 2mm away from the human body, has more than 16 dB return loss and at least 30dB isolation over ISM frequency band of 5.8GHz.

  • In this paper, a single balanced diode Mixer for the homodyne FMCW radar to detect distance and velocity of a vehicle target is designed and implemented using a microstrip line and two schottky barrier beam lead diodes. This mixer is optimally designed to have less a conversion loss within the 100 MHz bandwidth with a little LO injection power and a higher LO isolation as soon as possible through the embedded electrical length of microsrtrip line placed between the coupler and diode matching, considering together LO matching condition. The measured results show 6 dB of conversion loss, 23 dB LO/RF isolation and 3 dBm of input 1l dB, respectively.

  • In this paper, a broadband single balanced mixer is presented using a wideband rat-race implementation by vertical coupling. Frequency is selected as $1.5{\sim}3$ GHz for RF, $1.64{\sim}3.14$ GHz for LO, and 140 MHz for IF signals. When LO signal with 6 dBm at 2.7 GHz is injected, a conversion loss of 7.5 dB and RF to LO isolation of 30 dB are obtained. Also, an average conversion loss of 10 dB, RF to LO isolation of 30 dB, and LO to IF isolation of 45 dB are obtained for frequency band of $1.5{\sim}3$ GHz.

  • In this paper, FG-CPW (Finite-Ground Coplanar Wave-Guide) balanced diode mixer is presented. Frequency bandwidth is selected for a C-band, which is 5.72~5.82 GHz for RF, 5.58~5.68 GHz for LO, and 140 MHz for IF signals. A rat-race hybrid is designed for the accomplishment of single balanced type. A low pass filter (LPF) with CPW structure is used far good conversion loss and unwanted harmonics suppression. When LO signal with the power of 4 dBm at 5.635 GHz is injected, a conversion loss of 6.2 dB is obtained for the mixer. Also, the LO to RF and LO to IF isolation of 30 dB and 40 dB are obtained, respectively. This mixer can be used in the area on wireless LAN application.

  • A balanced RF duplexer with low interference in an extremely narrow bandgap is proposed. The Long-Term Evolution band-7 duplexer should be designed to prevent the co-existence problem with the WiFi band, whose fractional bandgap corresponds to only 0.7%. By implementing a hybrid bulk acoustic wave (BAW) structure, the temperature coefficient of frequency (TCF) value of the duplexer is successfully reduced and the suppressed interference for the narrow bandgap is performed. To achieve an RF duplexer with balanced Rx output topology, we also propose a novel balanced BAW Rx topology and RF circuit block. The novel balanced Rx filter is designed with both lattice- and ladder-type configurations to ensure excellent attenuation. The RF circuit block, which is located between the antenna and the Rx filter, is developed to simultaneously function as a balance-tounbalance transformer and a phase shift network. The size of the fabricated duplexer is as small as $2.0mm{\times}1.6mm$. The maximum insertion loss of the duplexer is as low as 2.4 dB in the Tx band, and the minimum attenuation in the WiFi band is as high as 36.8 dB. The TCF value is considerably lowered to $-16.9ppm/^{\circ}C$.

  • This paper presents a dual-band balanced mixer using nonlinear phase characteristic of composite right/left-handed (CRLH) transmission line. This metamaterial structure provides low LO leakage and high RF to LO isolation without additional filters for LO and RF path. The balanced mixer consists of balun and Wilkinson divider with dual-band characteristic of unit-cell which behaves like a CRLH metamaterial. Experimental results are used to verify the proposed metamaterial functions. The balanced mixer design results in an operating frequency of 870 MHz and 1660 MHz with an optimum mixer conversion loss of 15.2 dB at 870 MHz and 21.2 dB at 1660 MHz.

  • In this paper, a DBM(Doubly Balanced Mixer) of 2 GHz is implemented on FR4 substrate. The structure of doubly balanced mixer requires, in general, two batons and a quad diode. For balun, a novel planar balun using microstrip to CPS is suggested and designed. The suggested balun shows the phase imbalance of 180$^{\circ}$${\pm}$ 1.5$^{\circ}$and the amplitude imbalance of ${\pm}$ 0.2 ㏈ for 1.5 to 2.5 GHz. Using the balun, DBM is succesfully implemented, and the measured conversion loss of up/down converter show about 6 ㏈ over the bandwidth. The balun may be applicable for MMIC DBM with the process supporting backside via thourgh more study.

  • This paper analyzes the losses of a Steinmetz connection three-phase induction motor which is supplied by a single-phase source. The T-type equivalent circuit which is taken no-load losses into account is used to determine phase converter capacitive reactances at starting and rated speed by using the condition of the minimum voltage unbalance. The starting and the operating capacitor are replaced at the slip of the same voltage unbalance factor points which are depicted using two capacitive reactances. The operation characteristics are investigated by comparing with those of three-phase balanced operation to find the feasibility of single-phase operation. To analyze the losses of this motor, the output power decrease factor(OPDF), the loss ratio(LR), the no load loss ratio(NLLR), the copper loss ratio(CLR), the stator copper loss ratio(SCLR), and the rotor copper loss ratio(RCLR) are defined and simulated in the whole slip range. The simulated results show that OPDF is maintained almost uniformly, LR is low at low speed and high at high speed, CLR is higher !ban NLLR, but CLR varies concavely and NLLR varies convexly at high speed, SCLR is low at low speed and high at high speed, but SCLR varies convexly at high speed, and RCLR is nearly opposite to SCLR.
