Radiomics-based Machine Learning Approach for Quantitative Classification of Spinal Metastases in Computed Tomography (컴퓨터 단층 촬영 영상에서의 전이성 척추 종양의 정량적 분류를 위한 라디오믹스 기반의 머신러닝 기법)

  • Currently, the naked eyes-based diagnosis of bone metastases on CT images relies on qualitative assessment. For this reason, there is a great need for a state-of-the-art approach that can assess and follow-up the bone metastases with quantitative biomarker. Radiomics can be used as a biomarker for objective lesion assessment by extracting quantitative numerical values from digital medical images. In this study, therefore, we evaluated the clinical applicability of non-invasive and objective bone metastases computer-aided diagnosis using radiomics-based biomarkers in CT. We employed a total of 21 approaches consist of three-classifiers and seven-feature selection methods to predict bone metastases and select biomarkers. We extracted three-dimensional features from the CT that three groups consisted of osteoblastic, osteolytic, and normal-healthy vertebral bodies. For evaluation, we compared the prediction results of the classifiers with the medical staff's diagnosis results. As a result of the three-class-classification performance evaluation, we demonstrated that the combination of the random forest classifier and the sequential backward selection feature selection approach reached AUC of 0.74 on average. Moreover, we confirmed that 90-percentile, kurtosis, and energy were the features that contributed high in the classification of bone metastases in this approach. We expect that selected quantitative features will be helpful as biomarkers in improving the patient's survival and quality of life.

Study on Effective Operational Plan of Maritime Safety Enforcement Task : Focus on Vessel Safety Management (해양안전 집행업무의 효율적 운영방안 연구 -선박안전 관리를 중심으로-)

  • This study examines an effective operational plan of a maritime safety enforcement task that is distributed in the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Korea Coast Guard for maritime safety. Considering the sinking of the MV Sewol and Seohae vessels and the MV Hebei Spirit oil spill, normally marine safety accidents tend to not only damage human life, property, and marine environment but can also expand to disasters; therefore, precautionary measures are required. However, the Korean government takes superficial efforts in case of large-scale accidents. In case of the MV Sewol ferry, the government only focused on punishing the officials involved as a follow up and never mentioned any effective plan, such as "unification of maritime safety enforcement," in contrast to an advanced country. As a result, there are endless major and minor backward accidents. The probability of large-scale maritime accidents and backwardness accidents is increasing owing to vessels becoming large sized, high speed, and aged; sailors being unqualified; port traffic increase, development of marine leisure; and inefficiency dual marine safety systems. Therefore, based on the review of previous studies related to maritime safety, major advanced country's cases, and unified case of the vessel traffic service, this study suggests effective methods such as coastal vessel safety management, port state control and aid to navigation management, which are directly connected with maritime safety.

A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON THE DEGREE OF RELAPSE FOLLOWING ONE JAW SURGERY AND TWO JAW SURGERY IN SKELETAL CLASS III PATIENTS (골격성 III급 부정교합자의 편악수술과 양악수술후 재발경향에 관한 비교연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the degree of relapse following orthognathic surgery and the relationship between preoperative state and the methods of orthognathic surgery in skeletal Class III patients. Thirty-one patients were selected(17 men, and 14 women) for this study, who had received orthognathic surgery(20 one jaw surgery, and 11 two jaw surgery). The mean age was 22.5 years. Their lateral cephalograms, that were taken preoperatively, immediate postoperatively and follow-up over one year, were traced and analysed. The results were as follows : 1. In two jaw surgery, mandibular length, lower facial height and lower lip length were 4.24mm, 4.64mm and 4.13mm longer than in one jaw surgery, respectively But in two jaw surgery, overjet was 3.13mm shorter than in one jaw surgery. 2. In one jaw surgery, mandible was moved back $8.95\pm4.45mm$ at B point. In two jaw surgery, maxilla was moved forward $5.15\pm3.46mm$ and mandible was moved back $7.24\pm9.11mm$ at B point. 3. Between postoperation and follow-up over one year, A point, A' point, Pn and Sn were moved backward 1.02 $\pm$ 2.14mm, $1.73\pm1.63mm,\;1.05\pm1.48mm\;and\;1.55\pm1.37mm$ in two jaw surgery, respectively. 4. Between postoperation and follow-up over one year, in one jaw surgery, B point was moved forward $2.58\pm4.22mm$ and B' point was moved forward $1.95\pm4.39mm$. In two jaw surgery, B point was moved forward $0.65\pm2.88mm$ and B' point was moved forward $0.19\pm3.32mm$. In one jaw surgery, relapse rate was $28\%$ at B point and $24\%$ at B' point, whereas in two jaw surgery, relapse rate was $8\%$ at B point and $3\%$ at B' point.

Numerical Study on the Effect of the Arrangement Type of Rotor Sail on Lift Formation (로터세일의 배열 형태가 양력 형성에 미치는 영향에 관한 수치해석적 연구)

  • Recently, the international community, including the International Maritime Organization (IMO), has strengthened regulations on air pollution emissions of ships, and eco-friendly ships are actively being developed to reduce exhaust gas emissions. Among them, rotor sail (RS), a wind-assisted ship propulsion system, is attracting attention again. RS is a cylindrical device installed on the ship deck, that generates hydrodynamic lift using a magnus effect. This is a next generation eco-friendly auxiliary propulsion technology, and Enercon company, which developed RS-applied ships, announced that fuel savings of more than 30% are possible. In this study, optimal installation conditions such as RS spacing and arrangement type were selected when multiple RSs were installed on ships. AR=5.1, SR=1.0, and De/D was fixed at 2.0 according to the RS arrangement, and the wind direction was considered only for the unidirectional +y-axis. Regarding arrangement conditions, five conditions were set at 3D intervals in the +x-axis direction from 3D to 15D and five conditions in the +y-axis direction from 5D to 25D. CL, CD and aerodynamic efficiency (CL/CD) were compared according to the square(□) and diamond(◇) shape arrangements. Consequently, the effect of RS on the longitudinal distance was not significantly different. However, in the case of RS flow characteristics according to the transverse distance, the interaction effect of RS was the greatest when the two RSs almost matched the wind direction. In the case of the RS flow characteristics according to the arrangement, notably, when the wind blew in the forward (0°) direction, the diamond (◇) arrangement was least affected by the backward flow between RSs.
