We have experimentally investigated the cyclic deformation in copper using ultrasonic nonlinearity. The observation and characterization of dislocation substructure have been conducted using transmission electron microscope and electron backscattered diffraction technique. The ultrasonic nonlinearity (${\beta}/{\beta}_0$) was measured by the harmonic generation technique after various fatigue cycles. The microstructural effect on the nonlinearity was discussed regarding the extent of dislocation substructures evolved from low cycle fatigue. The ultrasonic nonlinearity of copper monotonically increased with the fatigue cycles due to the evolution of dislocation cell substructures.
Epidermal leaf cell phytoliths of 17 species of Oryza were examined with backscattered electron imaging with scanning electron microscopy to determine the usefulness of phytolith morphology for systematic studies. Many kinds of identifiable phytolith morphology are observed in the leaf blades of Oryza. They are different among species as well as between adaxial and abaxial surface and costal and intercostal strip portions of leaf blades. Distinguishing phytolith characters are useful at the level of the section, such as Angustifoliae, Ridleyanae, and Granulatae. The results of a cluster analysis using 21 qualitative characters of phytoliths reveal many taxonomic characteristics which are compatible with current taxonomy.

Two different commercial aluminium powder grades have been densified by direct hot extrusion. The extrusion temperature was $425^{\circ}C$, with an extrusion ratio of 1:16. Prior to extrusion, some green compacts were pre-sintered ($500^{\circ}C$). The evolution of the extrusion load during the process and the hardness of the final products have been investigated. Additionally, microstructural characterization by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Electron Backscattered Diffraction (EBSD) was carried out. The obtained results evidence grain refinement. Additionally, inter-metallic precipitation, dynamic recovery and geometric dynamic recrystallization take place depending on some process variables, powder composition, heat treatment, strain $\ldots$
The microstructural evolution of Grade 91 tempered martensite ferritic steels heat treated at $760{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$ for two hours was investigated using scanning electron microscopy(SEM), energy disperse spectroscopy(EDS), electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD), and transmission electron microscopy(TEM); a microhardness tester was also employed, with a focus on the grain and precipitate evolution process as well as on the main hardening element. It was found that an evolution of tempered martensite to ferrite($760{\sim}850^{\circ}C$), and to fresh martensite($900{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$), occurred with the increase of temperature. Simultaneously, the parabolic evolution characteristics of the low angle grain boundary(LAGB) increased with the increase of the heating temperature(highest fraction of LAGB at $925^{\circ}C$), indicating grain recovery upon intercritical heating. The main precipitate, $M_{23}C_6$, was found to be coarsened slightly at $760{\sim}850^{\circ}C$; it then dissolved at $850{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$. Besides this, $M_3C$ cementite was formed at $900{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$. Finally, the experimental results show that the hardness of the steel depended largely on the matrix structure, rather than on the precipitates, with the fresh martensite showing the highest hardness value.

Studies on self-healing have currently been diversified and the methods to evaluate the studies have become more diversified as well. Among them, the back-scattered electron (BSE) image acquired through the scanning electron microscope (SEM) is attempted as the means to evaluate the self-healing effect on cracks. In order evaluate by the BSE image, sophisticated pre-processing of specimen is critical and this injected inside the particle, pore and artificial crack of the hardener to stabilize the structure of the newly generated self-healing product and it enables to endure the stress on polishing without deformation. The impregnated specimen smoothen the surface to obtain the BSE image of high resolution that polishing is made for diamond suspension for wet polishing after dry polishing. As a result of evaluating the self-healing product on the impregnated and polished self-healing specimen, the generated product is formed from the surface of the artificial crack and the self-healing substances are confirmed as $Ca(OH)_2$ and C-S-H.
This art~cle reports on the formation of T - Gate with O.1$\mu$m foot and 0.4$\mu$m head width at PMMA/P( MMA/MAA) resist structure using a 30KV electron beam lithography system. From the result of Monte Carlo simulation on PMMA/P( MMA/MAA)/GaAs, we obtain the dissipation energy ratio of forwardscattered electron and backscattered electron within 0.1$\mu$m scattering radius is 19.5 : 1 0.1$\mu$m T - gate has been formed with 30KV gaussian electron beam at a 440$\mu C/\textrm{cm}^2$ dosage. The gamma value of PMMA and P(MMA/MAA) at MIBK : IPA=l : 1 developer was 2.3. The overlay accuracy(3$\sigma$) from mix-andmatch of optical stepper and Ekeam lithography system for fabricating HEMT device is accomplished below 0.1$\mu$m.
Backscattered electrons (BSE) are generated at the impact of the primary electron beam on the specimen. BSE imaging provides the compositional contrast to resolve chemical features of sectioned block-face. A focused ion beam (FIB) column can be combined with a field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) to ensure a dual (or cross)-beam system (FIB-FESEM). Due to the milling of the specimen material by 10 to 100 nm with the gallium ion beam, FIB-FESEM allows the serial block-face (SBF) imaging of plastic-embedded specimens with high z-axis resolution. After contrast inversion, BSE images are similar to transmitted electron images by transmission electron microscopy. As another means of SBF imaging, a specialized ultramirotome has been incorporated into the specimen chamber of FESEM ($3View^{(R)}$). Internal structures of plastic-embedded specimens can be serially revealed and analyzed by $3View^{(R)}$ with a large field of view to facilitate three-dimensional reconstruction. These two SBF approaches by FESEM can be employed to unravel spatial association of (sub)cellular entities for a comprehensive understanding of complex biological systems.
The activated sintering behavior of $MoSi_2$ powder compacts with addition of 0.5 and 1.0 wt.%Ni during the sintering under As atmosphere was studied. The shrinkage was measured and the microstructures were observed by SEM (scanning electron microscopy) and BEI (backscattered electron image) along with the phase analysis by EDS during heating up to 155$0^{\circ}C$ and holding for various time at 155$0^{\circ}C$. The most of shrinkage occurred upon heating and 92% of theoretical density was attained after sintering for 1 hr at 155$0^{\circ}C$. However, little shrinkage ensued even for prolonged sintering over 1 hr at 155$0^{\circ}C$. A liquid film formed at about 135$0^{\circ}C$ along necks and grain boundaries. The polyhedral grain structure composed of $(Mo,Ni)_5Si_3$and $Ni_2Si$ across the $MoSi_2$ grain boundary developed at 155$0^{\circ}C$. It was concluded that the activated sintering of $MoSi_2$ powder by Ni led to the diffusion of Si into Ni decreasing the liquidus temperature and the enhanced diffusion of Mo and Si through such a liquid phase and/or interboundary of $(Mo,Ni)_5Si_3$.
In this work, on-site corrosion behavior of heat resistant tubes of T91, used as components of a superheater in a power plant for up to 25,762 h, has been investigated using scanning electron microscopy(SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and electron backscattered diffraction(EBSD), with the objectives of studying the composition, phase distribution, and evolution during service. A multi-layer structure of oxide scale was found on both the steamside and the fireside of the tube surface; the phase distribution was in the order of hematite/magnetite/spinel from the outer to the inner matrix on the steamside, and in the order of slag/magnetite/spinel from the outer to the inner matrix on the fireside. The magnetite layer was found to be rich in pores and cracks. The absence of a hematite layer on the fireside was considered to be due to the low oxygen partial pressure in the corrosion environment. The thicknesses of the hematite and of the slag-deposit layer were found to exhibit no significant change with the increase of the service time.

The influences of hydrophilic treatment of the PET fabric on soiling and detergency of triolein were studied. The amounts of residual triolein were determined by radiotracer analysis, and distributions of the unsaturated oils on the fabric were evaluated by backscattered electron images. The removal of triolein was increased when the PET fabrics were treated. SRP pretreatment was more effective on the oily soil removal than the of addition of SRP in the detergent. The oily soil of triolein only was packed between the fibers, but mixed soil was distributed around the fibers. When the mixed soil was used, detergent solution could penetrate the continuous interfiber capillaries, this would be one of the reasons that mixed soil was removed rmore extensively.
