  • This article suggests integrated neural network models for the interest rate forecasting using change point detection. The basic concept of proposed model is to obtain intervals divided by change point, to identify them as change-point groups, and to involve them in interest rate forecasting. the proposed models consist of three stages. The first stage is to detect successive change points in interest rate dataset. The second stage is to forecast change-point group with data mining classifiers. The final stage is to forecast the desired output with BPN. Based on this structure, we propose three integrated neural network models in terms of data mining classifier: (1) multivariate discriminant analysis (MDA)-supported neural network model, (2) case based reasoning (CBR)-supported neural network model and (3) backpropagation neural networks (BPN)-supported neural network model. Subsequently, we compare these models with a neural networks (BPN)-supported neural network model. Subsequently, we compare these models with a neural network model alone and, in addition, determine which of three classifiers (MDA, CBR and BPN) can perform better. This article is then to examine the predictability of integrated neural network models for interest rate forecasting using change-point detection.

  • In this paper, we develop models to design the airfoil using Multilayer Feed-forward Artificial Neural Network (MFANN) and Support Vector Regression model (SVR). The aerodynamic coefficients corresponding to series of airfoil are stored in a database along with the airfoil coordinates. A neural network is created with aerodynamic coefficient as input to produce the airfoil coordinates as output. The performance of the models have been evaluated. The results show that the SVR model yields the lowest prediction error.

  • In this paper, a novel speed estimation method of an induction motor using neural networks(NNs) is presented. The NN speed estimator is trained online by using the error backpropagation algorithm, and the training starts simultaneously with the induction motor working. The neural network based vector controller has the advantage of robustness against machine parameter variation. The simulation results using Matlab/Simulink verify the useful of the proposed method.

In this thesis, we present a genetic DNU-control scheme for unknown nonlinear systems. Our methodis different from those using supervised learning algorithms, such as the backpropagation (BP) algorithm, that needs training information in each step. The contributions of this thesis are the new approach to constructing neural network architecture and its trainin.

  • In this paper, Haar wavelet-based neural network is described for the identification and control of discrete-time nonlinear dynamical systems. Wavelets are suited to depict functions with local nonlinearities and fast variations because of their intrinsic properties of finite support and self-similarity. Due to the orthonormal properties of Haar wavelet functions, wavelet neural networks result in a greatly simplified training problem. This wavelet-based scheme performs adaptively both the identification of nonlinear functions and the control of the overall system, while the multilayer neural network is applied to the control system just after its sufficient learning of the unknown functions. Simulation shows that the wavelet network can be a good alternative to a multilayer neural network with backpropagation.

  • This paper describes multiple fault diagnosis method in complex system with hierarchical structure. Complex system is divided into subsystem, item and component. For diagnosing this hierarchical complex system, it is necessary to implement special neural network. We introduced Modular Artificial Neural Network(MANN) for this purpose. MANN consists of four level neural network, first level for symptom classification, second level for item fault diagnosis, third level for component symptom classification, forth level for component fault diagnosis. Each network is multi layer perceptron with 7 inputs, 30 hidden node and 7 outputs trained by backpropagation. UNIX IPC(Inter Process Communication) is used for implementing MANN with multitasking and message transfer between processes in SUN workstation. We tested MANN in reactor system.

  • The channel is one of the precious and limited resources in wireless networks. There are many researches on the channel management. Recently, the optimization problem of guard channels has been an important issue. In this paper, we propose an intelligent channel management technique based on the neural networks. An SRN channel allocation model is developed to generate the learning data for the neural networks and the performance analysis of system. In the proposed technique, the neural network is trained to generate optimal guard channel number g, using backpropagation supervised learning algorithm. The optimal g is computed using the neural network and compared to the g computed by the SRM model. The numerical results show that the difference between the value of 8 by backpropagation and that value by SRM model is ignorable.

  • This study suggests the hybrid models for interest rate forecasting using structural changes (or change points). The basic concept of this proposed model is to obtain significant intervals caused by change points, to identify them as the change-point groups, and to reflect them in interest rate forecasting. The model is composed of three phases. The first phase is to detect successive structural changes in the U. S. Treasury bill rate dataset. The second phase is to forecast the change-point groups with data mining classifiers. The final phase is to forecast interest rates with backpropagation neural networks (BPN). Based on this structure, we propose three hybrid models in terms of data mining classifier: (1) multivariate discriminant analysis (MDA)-supported model, (2) case-based reasoning (CBR)-supported model, and (3) BPN-supported model. Subsequently, we compare these models with a neural network model alone and, in addition, determine which of three classifiers (MDA, CBR and BPN) can perform better. For interest rate forecasting, this study then examines the prediction ability of hybrid models to reflect the structural change.

  • Fly ash and silica fume belong to industry by-products that can be used to produce concrete. This study shows the model of a neural network to evaluate the strength development of blended concrete containing fly ash and silica fume. The neural network model has four input parameters, such as fly ash replacement content, silica fume replacement content, water/binder ratio, and ages. Strength is the output variable of neural network. Based on the backpropagation algorithm, the values of elements in the hidden layer of neural network are determined. The number of neurons in the hidden layer is confirmed based on trial calculations. We find (1) neural network can give a reasonable evaluation of the strength development of composite concrete. Neural network can reflect the improvement of strength due to silica fume additions and can consider the reductions of strength as water/binder increases. (2) When the number of neurons in the hidden layer is five, the prediction results show more accuracy than four neurons in the hidden layer. Moreover, five neurons in the hidden layer can reproduce the strength crossover between fly ash concrete and plain concrete. Summarily, the neural network-based model is valuable for design sustainable composite concrete containing silica fume and fly ash.
