For building an urban image, various elements such as symbolic building, ethnic characteristics, historical background, natural environment, and diverse cultural elements can influence on it. Many cities in developed countries are showing their unique urban image reflecting their own culture, history, and aesthetic tastes. Especially color, one of the major design elements, has greater impact than other visual factors to form an urban characteristic. Despite the long history and cultural background, Seoul as a capital city of Korea does not show an unique city image with the perspective of color. Recently, Seoul has been designated as '2010 World Design Capital' and implements various urban design projects. As a leading city of design, Seoul is trying to make its urban identity through the own symbolic environment color. The purpose of this study is to find an environmental color scheme for developing a desirable urban design through several cases of foreign countries. For the purpose, Paris, London, Amsterdam, and Tokyo were selected as case cities. Each of the cities showed their own cultural characteristics and made their unique urban image by appropriate usage of their natural environment, symbolic building, emblem of country, and so on. We need to consider these successful cases to build up the image of Seoul.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of dot pattern size(0.8, 1.8, 2.5, 5, 8), color combination(BG/R, Y/B), area-ratio on image formation. Sets of stimulus and response scales(7 point semantic) were used as experimental materials. The stimuli were 20 color pictures manipulated with the combination of dot pattern size, color combination, and area-ratio using computer simulation. The subjects were 240 female undergraduates living in Gyeongnam-do. Image factor of the stimulus was composed of 5 different components, visibility, attractiveness, cuteness, stability and high class image. In the cuteness, color combination, dot pattern size showed independent effect. In the stability, area-ratio, dot pattern size showed independent effect. Interaction effects of color and area-ratio combination was significant on cuteness. For visibility image 8cm yellow dot/blue background, for attractiveness image BG/R coloration, for cuteness image Y/B coloration and for stability image 0.8cm yellow dot/blue background were effective. According to the variation of dot pattern size, color combination and area-ratio, it was investigated that the images for a dress wearer were expressed diversely, were shown differently in image dimensions, and could be produced to different images.
This paper describes a real-time face tracking system using effective detector and Kalman filter. In the proposed system, an image is separated into a background and an object using a real-time updated face color for effective face detection. The face features are extracted using the five types of simple Haar-like features. The extracted features are reinterpreted using Principal Component Analysis (PCA), and interpreted principal components are used for Support Vector Machine (SVM) that classifies the faces and non-faces. The moving face is traced with Kalman filter, which uses the static information of the detected faces and the dynamic information of changes between previous and current frames. The proposed system sets up an initial skin color and updates a region of a skin color through a moving skin color in a real time. It is possible to remove a background which has a similar color with a skin through updating a skin color in a real time. Also, as reducing a potential-face region using a skin color, the performance is increased up to 50% when comparing to the case of extracting features from a whole region.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the window display in the department stores in Daejeon. The framework of execution, colors, illumination, and kinds and colon of mannequins of the window display in four department stores in Daejeon were analyzed based on the photographs of displays from January to October in 2001. The results were as follows: First, in the framework of execution, each department store used mostly the triangle-framework during four seasons, which was a fundamental framework. Its characteristics were a sense of security, three-dimensional effect, and balance. It was the most suitable framework fur the mannequins and toruso. Second, a color scheme for commodities was all no-coloring scheme in each four seasons. The color of background was mostly white which harmonized well with the colors of commodities and lights. The plan for the color scheme of window display should always executed on the commodities, and the colors should be harmonized to produce the best display effect. Moreover, when commodities had two colors, the color of background should be in one simple color that manifest the commodities, or that is secondary color to the main color of commodities. Third, all department stores used all same illumination. Lack of illumination, management, and expense incured ineffective production of the display. Fourth, mostly, real mannequins with white or skin colors were used, and the toruso was next used in department stores. The set was limited because many companies had not made new sets for the display. Therefore, new sets including mannequins should be actively developed to produce effective display.
Underwater color images suffer from low visibility and color cast effects caused by light attenuation by water and floating particles. This study applied single image enhancement techniques to enhance the quality of underwater images and compared their performance with real underwater images taken in Korean waters. Dark channel prior (DCP), gradient transform, image fusion, and generative adversarial networks (GAN), such as cycleGAN and underwater GAN (UGAN), were considered for single image enhancement. Their performance was evaluated in terms of underwater image quality measure, underwater color image quality evaluation, gray-world assumption, and blur metric. The DCP saturated the underwater images to a specific greenish or bluish color tone and reduced the brightness of the background signal. The gradient transform method with two transmission maps were sensitive to the light source and highlighted the region exposed to light. Although image fusion enabled reasonable color correction, the object details were lost due to the last fusion step. CycleGAN corrected overall color tone relatively well but generated artifacts in the background. UGAN showed good visual quality and obtained the highest scores against all figures of merit (FOMs) by compensating for the colors and visibility compared to the other single enhancement methods.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of substrate color and interface distance on the color adjustment of 2 single-shade composites, Vittra APS Unique and Charisma Diamond One. Materials and Methods: Dual disc-shaped specimens were created using Vittra APS Unique or Charisma Diamond One as the center composite, surrounded by shaded composites (A1 or A3). Color measurements were taken with a spectrophotometer against a gray background, recording the color coordinates in the CIELAB color space. Illumination with a light-correcting device and image acquisition using a polarizing filter-equipped cell phone were performed on specimens over the same background. Image processing software was used to measure the color coordinates in the center and periphery of the inner composite and in the outer composite. The color data were then converted to CIELAB coordinates and adjusted using data from the spectrophotometer. Color differences (ΔE00) between the center/periphery of single-shade and outer composites were calculated, along with color changes in single-shade composites caused by different outer composites. Color differences for the inner composites surrounded by A1 and A3 were also calculated. Data were analyzed using repeated-measures analysis of variance (α = 0.05). Results: The results showed that color discrepancies were lowest near the interface and when the outer composite was whiter (A1). Additionally, Charisma Diamond One exhibited better color adjustment ability than Vittra APS Unique. Conclusions: Color discrepancies between the investigated single-shade composites diminished towards the interface with the surrounding composite, particularly when the latter exhibited a lighter shade.

This paper is a study on an object extraction method which using color features of an object and background in the image. A human recognizes an object through the color difference of object and background in the image. So we must to emphasize the color's difference that apply to extraction result in this image. Therefore, we have converted to HSV color images which similar to human visual system from original RGB images, and have created two each other images that applied Median Filter and we merged two Median filtered images. And we have applied the Mean Shift algorithm which a data clustering method for clustering color features. Finally, we have normalized 3 image channels to 1 image channel for binarization process. And we have created object map through the binarization which using average value of whole pixels as a threshold. Then, have extracted major object from original image use that object map.
A method of extracting central objects in color images without any prior-knowledge is proposed in this paper, which uses basically information of significant color distribution. A central object in an image is defined as a set of regions that lie around center of the image and have significant color distribution against the other surround (or background) regions. Significant colors in an image are first defined as the colors that are distributed more densely around center of the image than near borders. Then core object regions (CORs) are selected as the regions a lot of pixels of which have the significant colors. Finally, the adjacent regions to the CORs are iteratively merged if they are similar to the CORs but not to the background regions in color distribution. The merging result is accepted as the central object that may include differently color-characterized regions and/or two or more objects of interest. Usefulness of the significant colors in extracting the central object was verified through experiments on several kinds of test images. We expect that central objects shall be used usefully in image retrieval applications.

In this paper, an extended snake algorithm using color variance energy is proposed for segmenting an interest object in color image. General snake algorithm makes use of energy in image to segment images into a interesting area and background. There are many kinds of energy that can be used by the snake algorithm. The efficiency of the snake algorithm is depend on what kind of energy is used. A general snake algorithm based on active contour model uses the intensity value as an image energy that can be implemented and analyzed easily. But it is sensitive to noises because the image gradient uses a differential operator to get its image energy. And it is difficult for the general snake algorithm to be applied on the complex image background. Therefore, the proposed snake algorithm efficiently segment an interest object on the color image by adding a color variance of the segmented area to the image energy. This paper executed various experiments to segment an interest object on color images with simple or complex background for verifying the performance of the proposed extended snake algorithm. It shows improved accuracy performance about 12.42 %.
The purpose of this study was to investigate emotional images and preference of knitwear by tone on tone combination. The subjects were 357 university students in Daejeon and Chungnam province, and the measuring instruments were 6 stimuli manipulated by color and tone combination type of background and pattern in the tone and tone combination, and self-administrated questionnaires consisted of emotional images items, preference items, and subjects' demographics attributions. The data were analyzed by Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, factor analysis, t-test, MANOVA and Duncan's multiple range test, using SPSS program. The results were as follows. First, four factors (attractiveness, conspicuity, mildness, and activity) are emerged on emotional images of knitwear. Second, color had main effects on emotional images and preference. Gray color was perceived as most attractive image and more preferred than others. Third, tone combination type had some effects on emotional images. Vivid tone background/light tone pattern was perceived more attractive image but less conspicuous and mild than light tone background/vivid tone pattern. Forth, subjects' gender had an effects on conspicuous image. Male was perceived more conspicuous image on knitwear stimuli than female. Fifth, color and subjects' gender had interaction effects on attractiveness image and preference. Male perceived that blue is more attractive and preferred than female.
