  • Plant damages and yields of the different rice cultivars to brown planthopper (BPR), Nilaparvata lugens S., were observed for the evaluation of varietal resistance in paddy fields. Twenty nine Korean cultivas were transplanted in paddy fields with three plots of no insecticide, no insecticide and fungicide, and no fungicide at Haenam, southern coastal area in 1983. Among 6 varieties with BPR resistant genes, Samgang, Gaya, Hangangchal, and Cheongcheong showed very low populations of BPR and no damages on all treatments. Milyang 30 and Wonpung among them had considerable populations of BPR. Seokwang and 23 others showed high populations and serious damages. Yield increasea(%) with insecticides were low on Gaya(12%), Samgang(29%) and Hangangchal(35%), but very high on Bongkwang(260%), Palgueum(223%), Songjeon(200%), and Guanauk(200%).

  • In general, based on traffic data in a ideal traffic condition, BPR cost function is used to a variety of transportation policies. However, Some researchers have reported that BRP cost function is not appropriate for analyzing traffic pattern as well as forecasting future demand.(Spiess, 1989 ; Singh, 1999) Therefore, in this paper to solve this problem, a methodology based on data through Micro traffic Simulator Based(MSB) is developed. As a result following outputs are obtained ; (1) presenting a methodology to develop a travel cost function through VISSIM in order to assess transportation policies and (2) developing BRP cost function and MSB cost function from data analysis through VISSIM and verifying availability of MSB function by comparative analysis.

  • It has been built or remodeled in every year train maintenance centers including subways. However, there is no standard to measure exact capacity. In today, most of criteria is referenced on Japanese. In general, we can standardize the process for 'Train Overhaul Maintenance' because its processes are similar or same patterns. The processes can be the base standard of train maintenance after being classified in detail and validating it. This study is adapt BPR methodology to present standardizes processes and the processes are mapping to layout drawing to constraint from the real world, and then evaluate the capacity using simulation. To guarantee objectivity of input data, we use research data by the National Railroad Administration and Association of Japanese Railway Engineering. Using these data to simulation, we compare to the 'Allowances' and evaluate its adequacy.

  • IDEF0 is the IEEE standard for functional enterprise modeling and has been used for business process modeling or process mapping in US and Europe. But it does not reflect the potential benefits of modeling and simulation of the dynamic aspects of an enterprise or a system. On the other hand, simulation tools concentrate mostly on the simulation of material flows and are difficult to include information flows and control flows. Additionally, the simulation models that include elements such as queues, event generators and process nodes is a visual interactive representation for the model builder, but is inconvenient for the domain expert. In an attempt to fill that void, we provide an integration of business process and simulation models in this paper. An enhancement of the IDEF0, called parameterized IDEF0, is proposed and its conversion mechanism to network simulation model is developed. Using this methodology, business process models for alternative systems can be evaluated and compared through simulation on time, cost, and quality metrics. As an application of the proposed methodology, economic evaluation of EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) for time-based BPR (Business Process Redesign) is demonstrated. In addition to BPR, the developed methodology may be further integrated with ABC (Activity Based Costing), TQM (Total Quality Management), and economic evaluation of information systems.

  • Developing standard cells for 3nm and beyond requires significant advances in the device and interconnect technology. Thus, it is very important to quantify the impact of the new technology in various aspects. In this paper, we perform a through analysis on the impact of Buried Power Rail (BPR) and Complementary FET (CFET) in the perspective of cell area and parasitics such as capacitance. We emphasize that CFET is a technology that realizes 4T and beyond for standard cell designs, but significant capacitance increases (+18.0%), compared to its counterpart technology (FinFET) cell, due to the increase of cell height in the Z-direction.

  • This study is redesigned library acquisition process to migrate library offline process to online applying the concepts of BPR(Business Process Reengineering), Business Process and Workflows in electronic commerce, and UML that is a one of visual modeling methods was applied to new model form software development. The new model can be processed library’s acquisition process efficiently and rapidly. And library and information center would migrate their back office work from offline to online using this model, so that new roles for librarian in the digital age will be created. The directions of digital library research should be accepted various application technologies like electronic commerce to get synergy effect in the near future.

  • This paper presents the core technology of Construction Business Process Automation to model and automate construction business processes. Business Process Reengineering (BPR) and Automation (BPA) have been recognized as one of the important aspects in construction business management. However, BPR requires a lot of efforts to identify, document, implement, execute, maintain, and keep track thousands of business processes to deliver a project. Moreover, existing BPA technologies used in existing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems do not lend themselves to effective scalability for construction business process management. Application of Workflow and Object Technologies would be quite effective in implementing a scalable enterprise application for construction community. This paper present the technologies and methodologies for automating construction business processes by addressing how: 1) Automated construction management tasks are developed as software components, 2) The process modeling is facilitated by dragging-and dropping task components in a network, 3) Raising business requests and instantiating corresponding process instances are delivered, and 4) Business process instances are executed by using workflow technology based on real-time simulation engine. This paper presents how the construction business process automation is achieved by using equipment reservation and cancellation processes simplified intentionally.

  • Some previous studies adopted a method statistically based on the observed traffic volumes and travel times to estimate the parameters. Others tried to find an optimal set of parameters to minimize the gap between the observed and estimated traffic volumes using, for instance, a combined optimization model with a traffic assignment model. The latter is frequently used in a large-scale network that has a capability to find a set of optimal parameter values, but its appropriateness has never been demonstrated. Thus, we developed a methodology to estimate a set of parameter values of BPR(Bureau of Public Road) function using Harmony Search (HS) method. HS was developed in early 2000, and is a global search method proven to be superior to other global search methods (e.g. Genetic Algorithm or Tabu search). However, it has rarely been adopted in transportation research arena yet. The HS based transportation network calibration algorithm developed in this study is tested using a grid network, and its outcomes are compared to those from incremental method (Incre) and Golden Section (GS) method. It is found that the HS algorithm outperforms Incre and GS for copying the given observed link traffic counts, and it is also pointed out that the popular optimal network calibration techniques based on an objective function of traffic volume replication are lacking the capability to find appropriate free flow travel speed and ${\alpha}$ value.

  • For the successful implementation of ERP systems, it is very important to solve the issue of "misfits", that is, the gaps between the functionality offered by the ERP package and the required by the adopting organization. To solve the "misfit" issue, adapting to the new functionality has been recommended instead of customizing the ERP package. However, these claims are mostly based on case studies and anecdotal evidence with limited empirical justification. The purpose of this study is, therefore, to study the effect of ERP customizing on user satisfaction and firm performance. In this study, we also examine the differences in the effects of ERP customizing among three customizing types: modification, add-on development (to use 'user exit'), and add-on development (not to use 'user exit'). According to the empirical field study, we find no significant differences in user satisfaction and firm performance by overall customizing (total of three customizing types) level. However, we find significant differences in user satisfaction and firm performance by add-on development level. And the influences of customizing types on user satisfaction and firm performance are significantly affected by the functionality level offered by the ERP system and BPR level. These results indicate that ERP customizing may not always be the incorrect choice for solving the "misfit" issue.
