  • We evaluated the phenetic relationships within six taxa of genus Oxalis L. in Korea with random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. Ten primers produced 125 bands for six taxa, and the mean number of bands per primer was 12.5. Across the six taxa, 121 (96.8%) bands were polymorphic, and only four were monomorphic. The mean number of RAPD phenotypes across the six taxa varied from 3.6 (O. stricta and O. corymbosa) to 4.8 (O. corniculata for. rubrifolia). In a simple measure of intraspecies variability according to the percentage of polymorphic bands, O. stricta and O. corymbosa exhibited the lowest variation (28.8%), and O. corniculata for. rubrifolia showed the highest (38.4%). A mean of 32.7% of the loci was polymorphic within taxa. The total interspecies genetic diversity ($H_T$) and intraspecies genetic diversity ($H_S$) was 0.362 and 0.122, respectively. On a per-locus basis, the proportion of total genetic variation due to differences among species ($G_{ST}$) was 0.663. This indicates that about 66.3% of the total variation was among species. The node of O. stricta and O. corniculata for. rubrifolia was strongly supported, with a high bootstrap value in the NJ tree and sistered with O. corniculata. According to RAPD analysis, the number of chromosomes was not congruent with a phenetic relationship.

  • Our current study aimed to verify the mediating effect of growth mindset and grit in the relationship between human rights victimization and self-esteem. The survey was conducted on 233 college students. Reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and Macro Process were performed, and bootstrap method was used to verify the mediating effect of growth mindset and grit. The results were as follows. First, human right victimization were significantly and negatively correlated with self-esteem, growth mindset, and grit while self-esteem were significantly and positively correlated with growth mindset, and grit. Second, as a result of path analysis, the human rights victimization had a significant negative impact on self-esteem, growth mindset and grit. On the other hand, growth mindset and grit had a significant positive effect on self-esteem. Third, growth mindset and grit had a mediating effect in the relationship between human right victimization and self-esteem. This implied that self-esteem of college students can be increased by increasing their growth mindset and grit. Future research is needed to clarify the role of human rights research and growth mindset and self - esteem in college students.

  • ITS DNA sequences from five individuals, representative of five groups designated according to the degree of leaf teeth and lobes from simple to palmate compound leaf in the Viola albida complex, established and further analysed in order to solve the taxonomic difficulty. A total 702 bp was sequenced at the 5.8S ribosomal DNA and internal transcribed spacer 1 and 2. The 5.8S coding region is 163 bp, and has no sequence variations. The ITS1 and ITS2 noncoding regions have a little bit sequence variations, and those were further analysed by the methods of the analysis of variance (ANOVA), the analysis of sequence divergence and the phylogenetic analysis. The result of ANOVA showed no significant differences among individuals investigated. The analysis of sequence divergence with Kimura 2-parameter distance revealed that in-groups showed much less than 0.05 in absolute value among individuals, while two out groups more than 0.05, V. grypoceras and V. orientalis. This result appeared that the sequence divergence among in-groups was not yet occurred in the species level but situated at somewhere below the species level. In the phylogenetic analysis, two outgroups formed the basal clades in order. Five individuals in-groups formed a clade. The clade was, however, not very robust as around 50% in bootstrap value, suggesting that this result was not meaningful in the phylogenetic point of views.

  • A novel species, Metschnikowia cibodasensis, is proposed to accommodate eight strains (ID03-$0093^T$, ID03-0094, ID03-0095, ID03-0096, ID03-0097, ID03-0098, ID03-0099, and ID03-0109) isolated from flowers of Saurauia pendula, Berberis nepalensis, and Brunfelsia americana in Cibodas Botanical Garden, West Java, Indonesia. The type strain of M. cibodasensis is ID03-$0093^T$ (= NBRC $101693^T$ =UICC $Y-335^T$ = BTCC-$Y25^T$). The common features of M. cibodasensis are a spherical to ellipsoidopedunculate shaped ascus, which contains one or two needle-shaped ascospores, and lyse at maturity. Asci generally develop directly from vegetative cells but sometimes from chlamydospores. The neighbor-joining tree based on the D1/D2 domain of nuclear large subunit (nLSU) ribosomal DNA sequences strongly supports that M. cibodasensis (eight strains) and its closest teleomorphic species, M. reukaufii, are different species by a 100% bootstrap value. The type strain of M. cibodasensis, ID03-$0093^T$, differed from M. reukaufii NBRC $1679^T$ by six nt (five substitutions and one deletion) in their D1/D2 region of nLSU rDNA, and by 18 nt (five deletions, four insertions, and nine substitutions) in their internal transcribed spacer regions of rDNA, respectively. Four strains representative of M. cibodasensis (ID03-$0093^T$, ID03-0095, ID03-0096, and ID03-0099) showed a mol% G+C content of $44.05{\pm}0.25%$, whereas that of M. reukaufii NBRC $1679^T$ was 41.3%. The low value of DNA-DNA homology (5-16%) in four strains of M. cibodasensis and M. reukaufii NBRC $1679^T$ strongly supported that these strains represent a distinct species.

  • The sequence data of the plastid DNA (trnL-F IGS, trnL intron, and trnH-psbA) and nuclear DNA (RNApol2_i23) markers were utilized to study phylogenetic relationships among the taxa in the Polygonatum odoratum complex (Ruscaceae). European P. odoratum individuals form a clade with a high bootstrap value, which is a sister to the clade of Korean P. odoratum var. odoratum, P. odoratum var. pluriflorum and P. robustum. The formation of the clade with P. odoratum var. odoratum, P. robustum, and one accession of P. odoratum var. pluriflorum indicates geological speciation in isolated populations in the islands following dispersal events from the mainlands. All data sets form two major clades, which are congruent with the subgroups divided by the basic chromosome numbers (x = 9 and x = 10). Although it is not easy to test the hypothesis of the decrease in the basic chromosome number due to scatter taxon sampling in this study, the molecular data strongly suggested that aneuploidy plays an important role in lineage diversification in the genus Polygonatum. The cytological data was not strongly supported by the cpDNA sequences. Further investigations of the cytological, morphological, and geographical characteristics with comprehensive sampling are desired to understand the evolution and lineage diversification in the genus.

  • The purpose of this study was to propose the most cost-effective sampling method, by analyzing the cost of forest resource investigation per sampling method for the planned harvesting area of in Chunyang-myeon, Byeonghwa-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Korea. For this study, three sampling methods were selected: random sampling method, systematic sampling method, and line transect method. For each method, sample size, hourly wage, number of sample points, survey time, travel time, the sample error rate of the estimated average volume, and the desired sampling error rate were used to calculate the cost of forest resource inventories. Thus, 10 sampling points were extracted for each sampling method, and the factors required for cost analysis were calculated via a field survey. As a result, the field survey cost per ha using the random sampling method was found to be have the lowest cost, regardless of the desired sampling error rate, followed by the systematic sampling method, and the line transect method.

  • Anemone pendulisepala, recently described as a new species, is distributed in sympatry with A. reflexa, A. amurensis, and A. raddeana at Mt. taebeark and Mt. Baekdu. Anemone pendulisepala was previously proposed to be a hybrid species between A. reflexa and A. amurensis becaue it displavs overlapping features with them in involucre shape, petiole length, sepal apex and xylem shape, To verify the taxonomic status and to examine the hybridity of A. pendulisepala, sequences of ITS region of nuclear ribosomal DNA and the psba-trnH, rps16 and trnLF region of cpDNA from 36 accessions of 5 taxa including outgroup were analyzed. In maximum parsimony tree based on ITS sequences, A. pendulisepala had the same sequences of A. reflexa and was clustered with monophyletic A. amurensis, and then A. raddeana. Anemone pendulisepala was distinguished from the other taxa by having four base insertion in rps16 region, two species-specific bases and insertion in trnLF region. In the phylogenetic trees of combined cpDNA, A. pendulisepala showed monophyly with the bootstrap 100%. Anemone pendulisepala exhibited no polymorphism and shared no sequences with putative parental or related taxa examined in this study. Molecular data suggest that A. pendulisepala should be a distinct species, and no evidence of the hybridization was detectcd.

  • The provincial education office considers providing school lunch as a foodservice and intends to improve consumer satisfaction. This study investigates the effect of student food habits and perceived food quality on satisfaction with school lunch based on Oliver's expectancy disconfirmation theory. We test the moderating effect of student gender and school conditions, such as the location of the school, job positon of the nutrition teacher, renovating kitchen and food distributing place. Questionnaires were collected from 240 sixth graders in the eight elementary schools in Gyeonggi province from August to September 2014. Excluding inadequate questionnaires, 208 were analyzed. PLS (Partial Least Square) and bootstrap t-tests were conducted for this study. The results showed food habits affected satisfaction directly (p<0.01). The perceived food quality of the school lunch service mediated this relationship in part (p<0.01). Moderating effects identified were gender (p<0.1), nutrition teacher's position(p<0.05), and renovating kitchen (p<0.1), but not location of school or distributing place. The study revealed the importance of student food habits and perceived food quality, which had an influence on satisfaction. We make a distinction between the concepts of satisfaction and quality so as to improve student satisfaction. When it comes to offering education program about food habits, the schools with old-fashion kitchen is given priority to than renovating one.

  • A Gram-positive, aerobic or facultative anaerobic, non motile, endospore-forming bacterial strain, designated Gsoil $114^T$, was isolated from a soil sample of a ginseng field in Pocheon Province (South Korea), and was characterized taxonomically by using a polyphasic approach. It grew well on nutrient agar medium and utilized a limited number of organic substrates as sole carbon sources, including D-xylose and some other carbohydrates, but did not utilize L-amino acids and organic acids. The isolate was positive for oxidase test but negative for catalase, and negative for degradation of macromolecules such as starch, cellulose, xylan, casein, chitin, and DNA. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 41.8 mol%. The predominant isoprenoid quinone was menaquinone 7 (MK-7). The major fatty acids were $anteiso-C_{15:0}$ (32.1%), $iso-C_{15:0}$ (30.5%), and $anteiso-C_{17:0}$ (30.2%). Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that strain Gsoil $114^T$ fell within the radiation of the cluster comprising Bacillus species and joined Bacillus shackletonii LMG $18435^T$ with a bootstrap value of 95%. The highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities were found with Bacillus shackletonii LMG $18435^T$ (97.6%), Bacillus acidicola DSM $14745^T$ (96.9%), Bacillus sporothermodurans DSM $10599^T$ (96.5%), and Bacillus oleronius DSM $9356^T$ (96.5%). The phylogenetic distance from any other validly described species within the genus Bacillus was less than 96%. DNA-DNA hybridization experiments showed that the DNA-similarities between strain Gsoil $114^T$ and closest phylogenetic neighbors were less than 39%. On the basis of its phenotypic properties and phylogenetic distinctiveness, strain Gsoil $114^T$ (=KCTC $13944^T$=DSMZ $18134^T$) was classified in the genus Bacillus as the type strain of a novel species, for which the name Bacillus ginsengihumi sp. nov. is proposed.
