  • Recently, users choosing a restaurant basedon information provided by blogs are increasing significantly. However, those of most blogs are unreliable since domestic restaurant blogs are occupied by advertising postings written by 'power bloggers'. Thus, in order to ensure the reliability of blogs, it is necessary to filter the advertising blogs which are sometimes false or exaggerated. In this paper, we propose the method of distinguishing the advertising blogs utilizing an automatic classification technique. In the proposed technique, we first manually collected advertising restaurant blogs, and then analyzed features which are commonly found in those blogs. Using the extracted features, we determined whether a given blog is advertising one applying automatic classification algorithms. Additionally, we select the features and the algorithm which guarantee optimal classification performance through comparative experiments.

  • An online survey was conducted to assess motivations for using, reliance on, and perceived credibility of political blogs and microblogs during both the Taiwanese general election of 2009 (the blog epoch) and the presidential elections of 2012 (the microblog epoch). Results indicated higher reliance on and motivation for using political blogs than microblogs. Blogs were also perceived to be more credible than microblogs. Respondents who primarily engaged in blogging for information purposes were more likely to judge candidate blogs as highly credible, whereas interest in entertainment emerged as the strongest predictor of the perceived credibility of microblogs. This research also provided quantitative evidence showing how users viewed blogs and microblogs differently in the context of political campaigns. The aim is to explore the pros and cons of blogging and microblogging as a tool for political communication.

  • This paper addresses clustering of blogs and posts in blogosphere. First, we model blogosphere as a social network where blogs and posts correspond to nodes and interactions on posts by blogs corresponds to links. Next, for clustering in blogosphere, we employ LinkClus, a link based algorithm that finds clusters of nodes in a network effectively and efficiently. For more accurate clustering, we propose two refinements: (1) change of granularity from blogs to folders, and (2) removal of blogs and posts being highly likely to incur noises. Finally, we verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach by showing how the posts and blogs in the same cluster are similar to one another in terms of their contents.

  • In this paper, we introduce a novel method to predict next update of blogs. The number of RSS feeds registered on meta-blogs is on the order of several million. Checking for updates is very time consuming and imposes a heavy burden on network resources. Since blog search engine has limited resources, there is a fix number of blogs that it can visit on a day. Nevertheless we need to maximize chances of getting new data, and the proposed method which predicts update probability on blogs could bring better chances for it. Also this work is important to avoid distributed denial-of-service attack for the owners of blogs. Furthermore, for the internet as whole this work is important, too, because our approach could minimize traffic. In this study, we assumed that there is a specific pattern to when a blogger is actively posting, in terms of days of the week and, more specifically, hours of the day. We analyzed 15,119 blogs to determine a blogger's posting preference. This paper proposes a method to predict the update probability based on a blogger's posting history and preferred days of the week. We applied proposed method to 12,115 blogs to check the precision of our predictions. The evaluation shows that the model has a precision of 0.5 for over 93.06% of the blogs examined.

The analysis of this study is designed as individual level to examine the causal relationship among variables. The the reliability and validity of data was tested by explanatory factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha coefficient, confirmatory factor analysis, and correlation analysis. Also, the structural equation model(SEM) analysis was performed to test the usefulness of the model. The analysis results revealed that interaction, entertainment, system quality and information quality are major influential variables on the perceived usefulness of tourism blog. Also, entertainment and system quality are influential variables on the perceived ease of use of tourism blog.
