BIM을 이용한 건축디자인 교육의 실험연구 (The Experiment of Architectural Design Education by means of BIM)

  • Results of experiments conducted in university-based design studio suggests that Building information Modeling invites the adoption of a dramatically different design process, traditional design process and BIM-aided design process. Experiment method is used the actual experiment by students. In contrast to traditional design process rooted in successive refinement of abstractions and dependence on tacit knowledge, the studio BIM-aided design process depends on a complete and comprehensive date base and alterative solutions by complete analysis for helping choice of finial result. BIM viewed as provocateur of design education provides great potential for the critical analysis of how architectural design is taught. The results reflect new ways of teaching and addressing BIM methods and process in the design studio project.

  • In the initial step of BIM based architectural design process, workloads are increased and the decision making process becomes more complex than those of the conventional design process. Technologies regarding distribution, exchange, classification, verification of BIM data are fundamental elements of construct environment for information sharing based on BIM. Interoperability of BIM model data is another issue to integrate BIM model. To improve interoperability in BIM-based collaboration, a model for utilizing formal&unformal design informations is suggested. Futhermore, Prototyping the model and practical test is conducted for advancement of data exchange making design data richen.

  • 중소규모 설계사무소에서의 BIM(Building Information Modeling) 활용은 BIM 라이브러리 및 기술콘텐츠 등 요소 기술의 부재로 인하여 아직까지도 미흡한 실정에 놓여있다. BIM을 도입하고 활용하는 설계사무소의 기술적인 부담을 최소화하기 위해서는 BIM 라이브러리 및 기술 콘텐츠를 제공하고, 단일 BIM 정보를 다양한 용도로 공유 및 교환하는 체계가 필요하다. 왜냐하면 BIM 설계는 단순히 3D 형태로 건물의 외관만을 설계하는 것이 아니라 공사에 들어가는 물량을 산출하고, 자재 정보 등을 바탕으로 기술에 관한 설계정보 등을 제공할 수 있어야 하기 때문에 기술 콘텐츠의 마련이 필수적이라고 할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 설계 업무 단계에서 BIM 데이터와 기술 콘텐츠가 연계 사용될 수 있도록 시스템 모듈 개발을 통해 BIM 기술 콘텐츠를 보급함으로써 BIM 기반 설계 업무의 효율성을 높이는 데에 목적이 있으며, 개발된 BIM 기술 콘텐츠 데이터 활용 시스템 모듈을 통하여 BIM 저변이 확대될 수 있는 근간을 마련하고자 한다.

  • This study intended to introduce the method of designing an eco-friendly building based on BIM(Building Information Modeling) and BIM-based application. The proposed application aimed to generate the environmental performance of the designed alternative automatically in real-time manner in the process of architectural design. We focused on the feasibility of BIM-based eco-friendly design process and the applicability of the developed application for the architectural design practice. In this manner, in the end of paper, we proposed the so-call EcoBIM which is the performance evaluation module for the designed alternative using BIM in the real-time manner and the new design process with it. EcoBIM generate the coefficient of overall heat transmission of wall, roof and slab of the designed alternative with their physical characteristics such as thickness, thermal resistance and so on.

Developing an Integrated Evaluation Technology for Energy- and Cost-Efficient Building Design Based on BIM in the Real-time Manner

  • Existing BIM(Building Information Modeling) based energy evaluation tools cannot be utilized enough for the potential performance of BIM because most of them have not provided the integrated model for energy evaluation, assessment of the material, cost of the construction, and so on. This research aims to propose and develop a new application, EcoBIM, to support an integrated evaluation of the energy and cost efficiencies of the design alternatives within the design process. The proposed application functions as a BIM-based evaluation system that calculates energy-savings performance as well as the construction cost of the alternatives at the design stage. This study mainly focuses on the possibilities of developing the proposed technology. We also suggest an advanced design process using the proposed system, corresponding to changes of national regulations in Korea. This study deduce that EcoBIM can allow architects to make suitable decisions regarding energy- and cost-efficient designs. The proposed design process will allow architects not only to check the eco-friendly performance of design alternatives but also predict the operation cost in a certain period in the future. EcoBIM can prevent large-scale design changes required to obtain environmental certification and enable the owner to make an informed decision about the initial investment of construction according to the result of the analysis of the energy requirement at the design stage.

  • Recently, there have been various attempts for the adoption and spread of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the construction industry. However, the spread of BIM has been less satisfied than expected, because of the insufficient, expensive hardware and software for the authoring, analysis and so forth. As a solution to resolve the obstacles, the applications of cloud computing technology to BIM have been introduced. Due to the vendor-dependent functions and lack of verification on the work process, the spread of cloud-based BIM has been limited in Korea. Therefore, this study proposes the functions of cloud computing services which can support BIM-based design processes through the review of practitioners, questionnaire survey and analysis of design process.

  • Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an effective decision-making platform that helps to save project cost and enhance quality of construction. By generating and linking a wide variety of objects data, BIM can be effectively utilized, and it should be ensured that object properties maintain consistency throughout the project period of design, estimates, construction, maintenance and repair. This study examined how to utilize BIM data in a construction project, by linking cost and schedule data in web environment, to better utilize the information and maintain consistency of the BIM information. To do so, the model integrated WBS data and CBS data, linked them with BIM model to realize 5D simulation in web environment. As a result, cost and schedule data could be simultaneously acquired, and object properties-cost, schedule, location-as well. These are expected to contribute to developing a BIM-based automatic data-processing system in web environment.

  • In a situation that building energy consumption is increasing worldwide, the research utilizing BIM technology to analyze building energy has been actively conducted. On the other hand, data input method of the building energy analysis has been still manually entered. This paper proposed a improved input method of required information for building energy analysis using the ECO2-OD program. As a result, although some required information of BIM based design software could be almost entered when it comes to general information and architectural sector, it has a problem to be handled in HVAC sector. Therefore, in the both of general and architectural sectors, the BIM information from the BIM-based design software could be directly used to automatically and systematically input the information. Future research should be studied the algorism and method in connection with data exchange to utilize input method of ECO2-OD from BIM data.

  • 효과적인 시설물 유지관리를 위해서는 유지보수공사 이력정보, 자재정보 등 다양한 유지관리 정보의 수집과 관리가 요구된다. 대형화, 복잡화 추세인 건축물들의 많아진 유지관리 업무량 해소를 위한 정보관리기술 및 시스템들의 도입에도 불구하고 유지관리정보들이 제대로 활용되지 않고 있다. 대안으로 BIM의 도입 및 활용 연구가 지속적으로 수행되고 있지만 설계단계에서 생성된 BIM 모델의 건축 유지관리 정보 미비로 인하여 실무에서 활용되지 못하고 있다. 본 연구는 건축물 관리자가 수행하는 BIM 기반의 스마트 유지관리 업무를 지원하기 위한 COBie 문서 프로토타입을 제안하였다. 다양한 유형의 유지관리 프로젝트 업무절차를 정형화하기 위해 BIM 기반 유지관리 기본 프로세스 모델을 점검업무와 유지보수업무로 구분하여 제시하고 단계별 유지관리 필요정보를 도출하였다. 설계단계에서 생성된 BIM 모델의 속성정보들 중 기본 프로세스 단계별 유지관리 필요정보에 해당하는 파라미터들을 도출하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 7개 스프레드시트로 구성된 COBie 문서 프로토타입을 제안하였다. 사례적용을 통해 유지관리 정보가 미포함된 KBIMS 라이브러리 기반의 설계단계 BIM 모델을 유지관리 단계에서 활용 가능한 것으로 확인하였다.

  • BIM(Building Information Modeling) is considered a new paradigm and a powerful method in building design, construction and maintenance. However, it is still hard to implement environmental performance analysis using BIM in design stages. This study aims to reveal practical problems and evaluate interoperability between building design information and performance analysis with case studies. Three case studies are performed using two environmental analysis programs (IES/VE, EnergyPlus) and BIM-based architectural design programs (Revit, GoogleSketchUp) in this paper.
