Although the holes on the shell case are very important fer the acoustic performance, it is difficult to solve the problem because the case includes thin bodies. Hence, in the past, only the method of trial and error, which depends on the engineer's intuition and experience, was available fur the design of holes. Many researchers have tried to solve the thin-body acoustic problems, since the conventional boundary element method (BEM ) using the Helmholtz integral equation fails to yield a reliable solution fer the numerical modelling of radiation anti scattering of sound from thin bodies. In the area of the analysis of thin-body acoustic problem, three approaches are generally used; the multi-domain BEM, the indirect variational BEM, and the normal derivative integral equation And there has been just a f9w study reported on the design optimization for the acoustic radiation problems by using only the conventional BEM. For the thin-body acoustics, however, no further study in the optimization fields has been reported. In this research, the normal derivative integral equation is adopted as an analysis formulation in the thin-body acoustics, and then used fur the optimization. The analytical approaches for the design of holes are proposed by using a topology optimization technique and a genetic algorithm. The proposed approaches are implemented and validated using numerical examples.
Submerged breakwaters can be installed underneath floating structures to reduce the external wave loads acting on the structure. The objective of this study was to establish an optimization analysis framework to determine the corresponding shape and position of the submerged breakwater that can minimize or maximize the external forces acting on the floating structure. A two-dimensional frequency-domain boundary element method (FD-BEM) based on the linear potential theory was developed to perform the hydrodynamic analysis. A metaheuristic algorithm, the advanced particle swarm optimization, was newly coupled to the FD-BEM to perform the optimization analysis. The optimization analysis process was performed by calling FD-BEM for each generation, performing a numerical analysis of the design variables of each particle, and updating the design variables using the collected results. The results of the optimization analysis showed that the height of the submerged breakwater has a significant effect on the surface piercing body and that there is a specific area and position with an optimal value. In this study, the optimal values of the shape and position of a single submerged breakwater were determined and analyzed so that the external force acting on a surface piercing body was minimum or maximum.
This paper deals with BEM analysis of transient elastodynamic problems using domain decomposition method and particular integrals. The particular method is used to approximate the acceleration term in the governing equation. The domain decomposition method is examined to consider multi-region problems. The domain of the original problem is subdivided into sub-regions, which are modeled by the particular integral BEM. The iterative coupling employing Schwarz algorithm is used for the successive update of the interface boundary conditions until convergence is achieved. The numerical results, compared with those by ABAQUS, demonstrate the validity of the present formulation.
In this study, By employing two dimensional(2-D) Boundary Element Method(BEM) stress analysis was carried to investigate stress distributions on the brazing joint of a Hardmetal and a HSS. Two model was proposed to analyze stress singularity in brazed interface. The stress results from the BEM were considered influence of the kind of materials , thickness of filled metal and length of vertical brazing adhesive. From those obtained results , the peak point of stress was founded in the lower part of two interface was made by brazing. As the thickness and length changed, the maximum stress tended to change in the peak point.
In this study, geometric shape and crack in welded interface of the air cooled heat exchanger Fin-Tube of Dissimilar Meterials was analysed. The object of study is to understand the behavior of Stress Intensity Factor for fin length, flash thickness, flash length, symmetric and asymmetric cracks of comming from the manufacturing process. Stress Intensity Factor was analysed by BEM. Kelvin's solution was used as a fundamental solution in BEM analysis and stress extrapolation method was used to determine Stress Intensity Factor.
An unconstrained tuning fork with a 3-D model has been numerically analyzed by Finite Element Method (FEM) and Boundary Element Method (BEM). The first three natural frequencies were calculated by the FEM modal analysis. Then the change of the modal frequencies was examined with the variation of the tuning fork length and width. Analytical model equations were derived from the numerically relating results of the modal frequency-tuning fork length by approximating minimization. Finally the BEM was used for the sound pressure field calculation from the structural displacement data.
A BEM program is developed for the performance analysis of axisymmetric mufflers. In the program the sub-region method is used to deal with singularity or inner boundary. The program is applied to typical axisymmjetric mufflers such as simple expansion, extended tube, perforated tube and absorptive expansion sufflers. The transmission losses of the mufflers are calculated by the program and compared with experiments. It is found that the prediction is in a good agreement with measurement, except for the absorptive muffler with parallel lining.
An H-Plane waveguide component with arbitrary shape is analyzed using finite element method(FEM) Cooperated with boundary element method(BEM). For the application of BEM in the waveguide structure, a ray representation of the waveguide Green's function is used. This technique is applied to the analysis of the waveguide inductive junction. The results are compared with the results of the mode matching technique. The comparison shows good agreement.

A coupled finite element method (FEM)-boundary element method (BEM) for analyzing the hydroelastic response of functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) floating plates under moving loads is firstly introduced in this article. For that aim, the plate displacement field is described utilizing a generalized shear deformation theory (GSDT)-based FEM, meanwhile the linear water-wave theory (LWWT)-relied BEM is employed for the fluid hydrodynamic modeling. Both computational domains of the plate and fluid are coincidentally discretized into 4-node Hermite elements. Accordingly, the C1-continuous plate element model can be simply captured owing to the inherent feature of third-order Hermite polynomials. In addition, this model is also completely free from shear correction factors, although the shear deformation effects are still taken into account. While the fluid BEM can easily handle the free surface with a lower computational effort due to its boundary integral performance. Material properties through the plate thickness follow four specific CNT distributions. Outcomes gained by the present FEM-BEM are compared with those of previously released papers including analytical solutions and experimental data to validate its reliability. In addition, the influences of CNT volume fraction, different CNT configurations, water depth, and load speed on the hydroelastic behavior of FG-CNTRC plates are also examined.
