The Miller cycle is a diesel engine that has been developed in recent years that it can reduce NOx and improve fuel consumption by reducing the compression ratio through intake valve closing (IVC) time control. The Miller cycle can be divided into the early Miller method of closing the intake valve before the bottom dead center (BDC) and the late Miller method of closing the intake valve after the BDC. At low speeds, the late Miller method is advantageous as it can increase the volumetric efficiency; while at medium and high speeds, the early Miller method is advantageous because of the high internal temperature reduction effect due to the expansion of the intake air during the piston lowering from IVC to BDC. Therefore, in consideration of the ef ects of the early and late Miller methods, it is necessary to adopt the most suitable Miller method for the operating conditions. In this study, a two-stage turbo charge system was applied to four-stroke engines and the process of enhancing the Miller effect through a reduction of the intake and exhaust valve overlap as well as the valve change adjustment mechanism were considered. As a result, the ef ects of fuel consumption and Tmax reduction were confirmed by adopting the Miller cycle with a two-stage supercharge, a reduction of valve overlap, and an increase of suction valve lift.

As IMO environmental regulations are tightened, the need to establish a system that can reduce emissions is increasing, and for this purpose, various power control management systems have been studied and implemented as a new energy management system for ships. In this study, we design a control process through modeling for Bi-Directional Converter (BDC) application with bi-directional power flow to link batteries, which are energy storage devices, to conventional generator power systems, and propose mechanisms for batteries optimized for varying loads. This work models MATLAB/Simulink as a BDC and simulates current control and state of charge (SOC) optimization at the time of charging and discharging batteries according to load scenarios. Through this, the battery, power, and load were interlocked so that the generator operated on board could be operated in the optimal operation range, and power control management was performed to enable the generator to operate in the high fuel efficiency range.

Boil-dried concentrates (BDC) and steam-dried concentrates (SDC) were prepared from highly nutritious olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus roes (OFR) as seafood processing by-products and their nutritional characteristics were investigated. Although SDS-PAGE profiles of the BDC and SDC proteins were similar to each other, it was observed that three of the five OFR protein bands in the 50-100 kDa range had disappeared. We also detected significant differences in the Hunter's color of the two concentrates in terms of color difference (𝚫E) and whiteness. The recovery amounts of BDC and SDC prepared from 100 g of OFR were 18.6 and 21.4 g, respectively, with respective protein contents of 67.7% and 68.9%. The main amino acids of OFR and concentrate proteins were valine, leucine, lysine, arginine, aspartic acid, glutamic acid and alanine, whereas major minerals were sulfur, potassium, sodium and phosphorus, the amounts of which in concentrates had been significantly reduced. We established that by sterilizing, inactivating endogenous enzymes, and inhibiting microbial growth, the cook-dried process contributes to enhancing the concentration and storage stability of nutrients by reducing water activity, volume, and weight. Accordingly, we suggest that concentrates (BDC and SDC) prepared from OFR have considerable potential as nutritionally fortified materials.
The objectives of the study were to elucidate functional modifications in relation to hydrological, physico-chemical and ecological aspects in Daechung Reservoir by the upper dam constructions of Youngdam Reservoir and analyze temporal and spatial dynamic patterns using trophic parameters of TN, TP, chlorophyll (CHL), and Secchi depth (SD). Hydrological data such as inflow, precipitation, and water levels before (BDC, 1995$\sim$2000) and after (ADC, 2001$\sim$2006) the dam construction showed that precipitation had greater correlations with inflow volume in the BDC (r=0.964, p=0.002) than in the ADC (r=0.857, p=0.029). This outcome indicates that the upper dam construction influenced the inflow and water level of Daechung Reservoir. One of the greatest changes after the dam construction was decreases of nutrient contents (TN, TP) and increases of algal biomass (as CHL) as the water residence time increases. Values of CHL had greater relations with TP in the ADC (r=0.412, p<0.001) than the BDC (r=0.249, p<0.001), indicating that CHL had greater response at a given phosphorus in the ADC. Thus, algal yield at a given TP (CHL : TP ratios) increased in the ADC, resulting in a greater CHL-TP relations. Long-term interannual TP, TN, SD, and CHL showed greater variations in the riverine zone (RZ) than any other transition (TZ) and lacustrine zones (LZ). This phenomenon was mainly attributed to rapid hydrological response in the riverine zone (RZ) to flow reductions (short water residence time) from the upper dam, resulting in ambient contents of nutrients and light regime along with functional relations of CHL-TP.
Two metal-organic frameworks based on the connectivity co-effect between rigid benzenedicarboxylic acid and bridging ligand have been synthesized $[Zn_2(3-NO_2-bdc)_2(4,4'-bpy)_2H_2O]_n$ (1), $[Co(3-NO_2-bdc)(4,4'-bpy)H_2O]_n$ (2) (where $3-NO_2-bdcH_2$ = 3-nitro-1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid, 4,4'-bpy = 4,4'-bipyridine). The two novel complexes were characterized by IR spectrum, elemental analysis, fluorescent properties, thermogravimetric analysis, single-crystal X-ray diffraction and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD). X-ray structure analysis reveals that 1 and 2 are two-dimensional (2D) network structures. Complex 1 and complex 2 belong to triclinic crystal with P-1 space group. The luminescence measurements reveal that two complexes exhibit good fluorescent emissions in the solid state at room temperature. Also, thermal decomposition process and powder X-ray diffraction of complexes were investigated.

Background: Dendritic cell (DC)-based cancer immunotherapy is studied for several years. However, it is mainly derived from autologous PBMC or leukapheresis from patient, which has limitations about yield and ability of DC production according to individual status. In order to solve these problems, inquiries about allogeneic DCs are performed but there are no preclinical trial answers for effect or toxicity of allogeneic DC to use for clinical trial. In this study, we compared the anti-tumor effect of allogeneic and autologous DCs from mouse bone marrow stem cells in mouse metastatic melanoma model. Methods: B16F10 melanoma cells ($5{\times}10^4$/mouse) were injected intravenously into the C57BL/6 mouse. Therapeutic DCs were differentiated from autologous (C57BL/6: CDC) or allogeneic (B6C3F1: BDC) bone marrow stem cells with GM-CSF, SCF and IL-4 for 13days and pulsed with B16F10 tumor cell lysate (Blys) for 18hrs. DC intra-peritoneal injections began on the 8th day after the tumor cell injection by twice with one week interval. Results: Anti-tumor response was observed by DC treatment without any toxicity especially in allogeneic DC treated mice (tumor burden score: $2.667{\pm}0.184,\;2.500{\pm}0.463,\;2.000{\pm}0.286,\;1.500{\pm}0.286,\;1.667 {\pm}0.297$ for saline, CDC/unpulsed-DC: U-DC, CDC/Blys-DC, BDC/U-DC and BDC/Blys-DC, respectively). IFN-${\gamma}$ secretion was significantly increased in allogeneic DC group stimulated with B16F10 cell lysate ($2,643.3{\pm}5,89.7,\;8,561.5{\pm}2,204.9.\;6,901.2{\pm}141.1pg/1{\times}10^6$ cells for saline, BDC/U-DC and BDC/Blys-DC, respectively) with increased NK cell activity. Conclusion: Conclusively, promising data was obtained that allogeneic DC can be used for DC-based cancer immunotherapy.
This paper proposes a model-based optimal control algorithm for the clamp switch of a zero-voltage switching (ZVS) bidirectional DC-DC converter. The bidirectional DC-DC converter (BDC) can accomplish the ZVS operation using the clamp switch. The minimum current for the ZVS operation is maintained, and the inductor current is separated from the input and output voltages by the clamp switch in this topology. The clamp switch can decrease the inductor current ripple, switching loss, and conduction loss of the system. Therefore, the optimal control of the clamp switch is significant to improve the efficiency of the system. This paper proposes a model-based optimal control algorithm using phase shift in a micro-controller unit. The proposed control algorithm is demonstrated by the results of PSIM simulations and an experiment conducted in a 1-kW ZVS BDC system.
The friction loss between piston rings and cylinder liner is due to the tension of the piston rings. Lubricant is usually supplied to reduce the friction. However, the sliding speed of the piston varies during the reciprocating cycle and is very low near TDC(Top Dead Center)/BDC(Bottom Dead Center), where the hydrodynamic lubrication cannot be sustained. Since the lubrication regime is shifted from the hydrodynamic to the boundary lubrication near TDC/BDC, wear particles are easily generated so that the friction loss becomes bigger and bigger due to the plowing effect of wear particles. In this study, for the purpose of reducing the friction loss, an undulated surface is adopted to the cylinder liner to trap wear particles. The friction force variations, which are measured by strain gaged, show that the concept of undulated surface is one of the promising methods to effectively reduce the friction between piston rings and cylinder liner.

The hydrothermal reaction of Zn(NO₃)₂6H₂O with benzene-1,3-dicarboxylic acid (or isophthalic acid, 1,3-BDCH₂) and pyridine led to the formation of a 1-dimensional coordination polymer with the empirical formula of [Zn₄(1,3-BDC)₃(Py)₂(O/sup 2-/)] (1). On the other hand, the hydrothermal reaction of Tb(NO₃)₃5H₂O with benzene-1,3-dicarboxylic acid (or isophthalic acid, 1,3-BDCH₂) and pyridine gave a 3-D compound [Tb₃(1,3-BDC)₂(H₂O₃] (2). The structures of both compounds have been determined by X-ray diffraction. 1 crystallizes in the monoclinlc space group P2₁/n, a = 10.344(3) Å, b = 18.030(3) Å, c = 18.033(3) Å, = 90.46(2)°, V = 3363.1(13) ,ų, Z = 4. 2 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/n, a = 22.253(5) Å, b = 18.672(4) Å, c = 11.5812 Å, = 101.40(2)°, V = 4717.3(21) ų, Z = 8.
