  • We investigated the influence of uniparabolic graded distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) using digital alloy on vertical series resistance and reflectivity of DBRs. Measured specific DBR series resistance was reduced to about 8.787${\times}$$10^{-6}$${\ohm}$ $cm^2$/period for digital alloy uniparabolic graded DBR. This was better than various graded DBRs, especially biparabolic graded DBR. Reflectivity of 42 pair uniparabolic graded DBR was found to be comparable to that of biparabolic graded DBRs.

  • To improvement the magnetic and frequency properties of YIG(Yttrium-Iron Garnet) in microwave region, it is investigated that the effect of $Al^{3+}$ ions on magnetic and frequency characteristics of YIG, using samples of basic YIG composition( $Y_{3}$F $e_{5}$ $O_{l2}$) added with A1$_{2}$ $O_{3}$ from 0 to 2.5 [mol%]. The measurment is conducted mainly for the structural properties and magnetical properties. The structural properties is measured using SEM(Scanning Electro Microscope), EDX(Energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometer) and XRD(X-ray diffraction equipment). The magnetical properties is measured with B-H curve tracer and impedance analyzer. As a result, it is confin-ned that the effect of eddy current loss is minimized while maintaining high saturation flux density of YIG, when YIG is added with 0.5 [mol%] of A1$_{2}$ $O_{3}$.>.>.

  • A Navier-Stokes code with a modified low Reynolds number k-.epsilon. turbulence model was used to study the unsteady transitional boundary layer flow due to rotor-stator interaction. The modification, proposed by Launder, to improve prediction of stagnation flows was incorporated to the low Reynolds number k-.epsilon. turbulence model by Fan-Lakshminarayana-Barnett. Numerical solution is shown to capture well the calmed laminar flow as well as the wake induced transitional strip due to rotor-stator interaction and shows improvement, in terms of onset of transition and its length, over previous Euler/boundary layer solution. The turbulent kinetic energy shows local maximum along the upstream rotor wake in the wake induced transitional strip and this characteristics is observed untill the end of transition. The wake induced strip also shown apparent even in the laminar sublayer as the upstream rotor wake penetrates inside the boundary layer.

  • The cooling heat transfer by impinging water spray jets on a rotating roll with a relatively large diameter has been investigated under various experimental conditions with 3 different sizes of flat type nozzle. The local heat transfer coefficients were calculated by finite difference method using measured surface temperatures of the circular cylinder as boundary conditions. Results show that a peak value of the heat transfer coefficient is located at the center of sprayed area and there may be a secondary peak at the downstream. The average heat transfer coefficients on the sprayed area were found to be 10 to 22 ㎾/$m^2$$^{\circ}C$, and were not related to spraying pressure, but approximately linearly to flow rate of sprayed water. Also it is found that increasing the distance from roll to nozzle could improve the cooling efficiency by increasing the sprayed area.

  • Several types of different header designs are numerically studied to have uniform distribution of two phase flow in the evaporator header having multi-channels. The different geometries include the inlet tube position into the header and the width of header. In the numerical calculation, two types of two-phase model such as homogeneous model and VOF(Volume Of Fluid) model are employed. In this study, the mal-distribution number, $M_d$, is newly defined to evaluate the averaged level of the flow distribution in the whole passes of the evaporator. As results, two phase flow in the header can be visualized using post-processing of numerical results. Furthermore, the optimum position of the inlet tube into the header and the width of header can be proposed for the better distribution of refrigerant(R-134a) flow.

  • In this study, the autoignition process of liquid fuel, injected into hot and stagnant air in a 2-D axisymmetric confined cylindrical combustor, has been investigated. Eulerian-Lagrangian scheme was adopted to analyze the two-phase flow and combustion. The unsteady conservation equations were used to solve the transition of the gas field. Interactions between two phases were accounted by using the particle source in cell (PSI-Cell) model, which was used for detailed consideration of the finite rates of transports between phases. And infinite conduction model was adopted for the vaporization of droplets. The results have shown that the process of the autoignition consists of heating up of droplets, vaporization, mixing and ignition. The ignition criteria could be determined by the temporal variations of temperature, reaction rate and species mass fraction. And the effects of various parameters on ignition phenomena are examined. These have shown that the increasing the reaction rate and/or the vaporization rate can reduce the ignition delay time.

  • When conducting the underground safety impact assessment under the special law in Korea, it is essential to investigate the occurrence of underground cavities. When underground cavities were discovered, the underground safety was assessed through numerical analysis. The previous study has suggested the stability evaluation based on the factor of safety by changing the 2D shape of the small underground cavity. In this study, the effects of small underground cavities considering 3D shapes were examined using a continuum analysis program and compared with the 2D results presented in previous study. If the 3-Dimensional shape of the underground cavity is found close to the sphere type, it would be reasonable to evaluate the factor of safety by the shear strength reduction method regardless of the size and position of the cavity. If a high-aspect ratio underground cavity with a depth of 2 m or more from the ground surface and an aspect ratio (a/b) of 2.0 or more is in the vertical direction, not only the factor of safety but the failure mode shape should be cautions in the stability evaluation using the shear strength reduction method. The results of this study are expected to be basic data on underground safety impact assessment.

  • In the paper, MIMO antenna for LTE 13 band, LTE 7 band wireless communication service is proposed. The proposed antenna is designed where on the top of FR-4(${\epsilon}_r=4.4$, thickness=-.8mm). In proposed structure, two Planar Inverted F Antennas (PIFAs) using meander and folded structure are symmetrically designed for the miniaturization. The isolation between two antennas was also improved by using two slits on the ground plane. The isolation values of the fabricated antenna exhibits -18 dB, -13dB at LTE 13 and LTE 7 band, respectively. The average gain and efficiency are - 4.1 dBi, 41% on LTE 13 band, -1 dBi, 81% on LTE 7 band, respectively. Thus the proposed antenna can be applied to the LTE system.

  • In this paper, we propose a fast disparity estimation method considering temporal and spatial redundancy based on a dynamic programming for stereo matching. For the first step, the dynamic programming is performed to estimate disparity vectors with correlation between neighboring pixels in an image. Next, we efficiently compensate regions, which disparity vectors are not allocated, with neighboring disparity vectors assuming that disparity vectors in same object are quite similar. Moreover, in case of video sequence, we can decrease a complexity with temporal redundancy between neighboring frames. For performance comparison, we generate an intermediate-view image using the estimated disparity vector. Test results show that the proposed algorithm gives $0.8{\sim}2.4dB$-increased PSNR(peak signal to noise ratio) compared to a conventional block matching algorithm, and the proposed algorithm also gives approximately 0.1dB-increased PSNR and $48{\sim}68%$-lower complexity compared to the disparity estimation method based on general dynamic programming.
