Nypa fruticans Wurmb Exerts Anti-Inflammatory Effects through NF-kB and MAPK Signaling Pathway

  • Nypa fruticans Wurmb is a mangrove plant belonging to Araceae family. N. fruticans is typically found in Southeast Asia, and in some parts of Queensland, Australia. N. fruticans has phytochemicals, phenolics, and flavonoids. In this study, we investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of the ethyl acetate fraction of N. fruticans (ENF) on the production and expression of cytokines and inflammatory mediators through the major signal transduction pathways. ENF attenuated the level of cytokines in a dose-dependent manner and decreased the production of nitric oxide (NO). ENF decreased the expression of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) via alleviating transcription of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) by an inhibitor of nuclear factor-kappa B (IκB) degradation. Furthermore, mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathways (ERK1/2, JNK1/2, and p38) are known to be involved in the inflammatory response. Phosphorylations of ERK1/2, JNK1/2, and p38 were significantly decreased compared with the ENF-untreated control. Conclusively, ENF was related to alleviating various pro-inflammatory mediators through IκB/NF-κB and MAPK signaling pathways, including p65 translocation to the nucleus.

B와 W의 함량이 무전해 Co 합금 박막의 경도에 미치는 영향 연구 (Effect of B and W Contents on Hardness of Electroless Co Alloy Thin Films)

  • 본 연구에서는 Co-B, Co-W-B 합금 박막 형성을 위한 무전해 전착법을 고안하고, 이를 통해 형성한 합금 박막의 B과 W의 함량이 박막의 경도에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 무전해 전착을 통해 무정형 상태의 Co 합금 박막을 성공적으로 형성할 수 있었으며, 환원제인 dimethylamine borane과 W의 원료인 sodium tungstate dihydrate의 농도를 조절함으로써 Co 합금 박막 내 혼합되는 B과 W의 함량을 조절하였다. 이를 통해 Co 합금 박막 내 전위(dislocation)의 전파(propagation)를 억제하는 B과 W의 함량이 증가할수록 박막의 경도가 증가함을 확인할 수 있었다. 뿐만 아니라, 무전해 전착 시 포기(aeration)를 수행하지 않을 경우에 포기를 수행한 경우보다 Co 합금 박막 내 B과 W의 함량을 대폭 증가시킬 수 있었고 최종적으로 Co-W-B 합금 박막의 경도를 8.9 (${\pm}0.3$) GPa까지 향상시켰다.

Biochemical Properties and Substrate Specificity of Lipase from Staphylococcus aureus B56

  • A lipase of Staphylococcus aureus B56 was purified from a culture supernatant and its molecular weight was estimated to be 45 kDa by SDS-PAGE. The optimum temperature and pH for the hydrolysis of olive oil was $42^{\circ}C$ and pH 8-8.5, respectively. The enzyme was stable up to $55^{\circ}C$ in the presence of $Ca^++$ at pHs 5-11. The lipase gene was cloned using the PCR amplification method. The sequence analysis showed an open reading frame of 2,076 bp, which encoded a preproenzyme of 691 amino acids. The preproenzyme was composed of a signal sequence (37 aa), propeptide (255 aa), and mature enzyme (399 aa). Based on a sequence comparison, lipase B56 constituted of a separate subgroup among the staphylococcal lipase groups, such as S. aureus PS54 and S. haemolyticus L62 lipases, and was distinct from other lipases in their optimum pH and substrate specificity.

$LaCo_{13}$ 희토류-전이금속 화합물의 전자기적 물성연구 (Electronic and Magnetic Properties of Rare-earth Transition Metal Compound : $LaCo_{13}$)

  • 희토류-전이금속 화합물, $LaCo_{13}$에 대한 자체충족적 국제밀도함수근사 LMTO (Linearized Muffin-Tin Orbital) 에너지 띠 전자구조 계산을 토대로 하여 이물질의 상자성, 강자성상에서 자성을 포함한 전기적, 자기적 물성을 고찰하였다. 강자성상에서의 CoI, CoII원자들의 자기모멘트는 각각 $1.34,\;1.65{\mu}_{B}$로 계산되었으며 이는 Co 원자당 평균 자기모멘트 $1.60{\mu}_{B}$에 해당하여 실험치 $1.56~1.68{\mu}_{B}$와 근사한 결과를 얻었다.
