  • The potential role of endogenous opioid peptides (EOPS) in cardiovascular regulation has only recently been entertained. EOPS have been localized in brain, spinal cord, autonomic ganglia, particularly the adrenal gland, and many other peripheral tissues. There are at least five major types of opioid receptors; namely ${\mu},\;{\delta},\;k,\;{\sigma},\;and\;{\varepsilon}$ and Experimental evidence indicates that cardiovascular actions of the peptide are mediated primarily by ${\mu},\;{\delta}$ and k receptors, and that these receptor types may be allosterically coupled. In anesthetized rabbits met-enkephalin decreased blood pressure and heart rate, which closely paralleled a reduction in sympathetic discharge. Naloxone, but not naloxone methobromide, antagonized these effects, which suggests a central site of action of met-enkephalin. A number of autonomic agents, particularly adrenergic ${\alpha}$-and, ${\beta}-agonists$ and antagonists modify the cardiovascular actions of met-enkephalin. Experiments in reserpine-treated and adrenalectomized rats provide no evidence of sympathetic nervous system involvement in the pressor responses to intravenous injection of opioid peptides, but rather suggest a direct peripheral action. Finally, activation of a beta-endorphinergic pathway projecting from the arcuate nucleus to the nucleus tractos solitarii in rats can cause naloxone reversible hypotension and bradycardia. There is evidence to implicate this pathway in antihypertensive drug action and in the modulation of baroreflex activity.

  • Resveratrol is a polyphenolic compound, which is a naturally occurring phytochemical and is found in a variety of plants, including food such as grapes, berries and peanuts. Although several studies have demonstrated that resveratrol possesses anti-cancer activity against various types of human cancer, the molecular mechanisms of resveratrol-mediated overcome drug resistance potential are unclear. In this study, we determined whether resveratrol attenuates drug resistance responses in 5-fluorouracil-resistant colon cancer (SNUC5/5-FUR) cells. Treatment with resveratrol significantly enhanced apoptosis in a concentration-dependent manner, which was associated with the modulation of anti- and/or pro-apoptotic protein expression, activation of caspases and activation of AMP-activated protein kinase. Resveratrol treatment also increased the induction of autophagy through up-regulation of autophagy-related genes such as Microtubule-associated protein 1A/1B-light chain 3, P62 and beclin-1. However, blocking of autophagy by bafilomycin A1 reduced apoptotic cell death, suggesting that resveratrol-induced autophagy functions as a cell death mechanism in SNUC5/5-FU cells. Although the further studies are needed, these findings suggest that resveratrol may have therapeutic potential to overcome drug resistance in colon cancer patients.

  • As the development of wireless techniques, transmission technology of body area network plays an important role in realizing a welfare society by combining IT and BT when applying to vehicles. Off-body WBAN (Wireless Body Area Network) systems for video data transmission require low battery consumption and high data rate. To satisfy the requirement, UWB has been considered as a promising candidate for high rate WBAN. This paper introduces an antenna selection technique for ultra-wideband based off-body WBAN system with low complexity. In this paper, we propose an antenna selection scheme using non-coherent receiver for off-body high data rate WBAN system. The proposed receiver antenna selection method takes advantage of the characteristic of BPPM (Binary Pulse Position Modulation). With the property of BPPM, this scheme calculates the approximate SNR of the received signal with non-coherent receiver.

  • Purple rice (Oryza sativa L. var. indica) cv. Kum Doisaket is cultivated in northern Thailand. This study evaluated the mutagenic and antimutagenic properties of hydrophilic and lipophilic components of purple rice using the Ames test. The seed and hull of purple rice were extracted with hexane, methanol, ethanol, and water. The methanol extracts had the highest amounts of phenolic acids and flavonoids, while the hexane extracts contained large amount of tocols and ${\gamma}$-oryzanol. None of the extracts were mutagenic in Salmonella typhimurium strains TA98 and TA100. The hexane extract of rice hull and the methanol extract of rice seed were strongly effective against aflatoxin B1- and 2-amino-3, 4 dimethylimidazo (4, 5-f) quinoline-induced mutagenesis, while aqueous extracts showed weakly antimutagenic properties. All extracts with the exception of aqueous extracts enhanced the number of revertant colonies from benzo (a) pyrene induced-mutagenesis. None of the extracts inhibited mutagenesis induced by the direct mutagens 2-(2-furyl)-3-(5-nitro-2-furyl)-acrylamide and sodium azide. The hull extracts showed more potent antimutagenicity than the seed extracts. Based on a chemical analysis, ${\gamma}$-oryzanol and ${\gamma}$-tocotrienol in the hull and cyanidin-3-glucoside and peonidin-3-glucoside in the seed are candidate antimutagens in purple rice. The antimutagenic mechanisms of purple rice might be related to either modulation of mutagen metabolizing enzymes or direct attack on electrophiles. These findings supported the use of Thai purple rice as a cancer chemopreventive agent.

  • For IEEE 802.15.3 HR-WPAN, we propose the DABL algorithm that PNC can allocate the channel times to the DEV in super frame in order that system frame throughput is increased and the delay is decreased. In detail, the DABL algorithm allows to dynamically allocate channel time as well as to adaptively apply the modulation and coding scheme based on the link quality of the DEV. In addition, due to the facts that QoS is quite different depending on service types, we provide the DABL algorithm taking into account RT(Real Time) traffic and Non-RT traffic respectively. Finally, we show simulation results of the DABL algorithm compared to the conventional algorithm that the PNC equally allocates channel times to the DEV regardless of the link quality of the DEV.

  • In this paper we designed a current mode logic frequency divider to transmit a baseband amplitude modulated signal. From simulation result, we studied input and output waveforms according to the variation of input bias voltage. For the purpose of the verification of the study, we designed a current mode logic frequency divider at 1,400 MHz. The designed frequency divider operates between 100 MHz and 3,000 MHz, for -33 dBm input power. The circuit draws $I_{total}=30mA$ from $V_{DD}=3V$ supply, and the simulation result shows that an amplitude modulated signal at 1,400 MHz with the modulation index of 0.5 was successfully downconverted to 700 MHz.

  • Extracellular Regulated Kinases (ERK) and Protein Kinase B (Akt) are intermediaries in relaying extracellular growth signals to intracellular targets. Each pathway can become activated upon stimulation of G protein-coupled receptors mediated by $G_q$ and $G_{i/o}$ proteins subjected to regulation by RGS proteins. The goal of the study was to delineate the specificity in which cardiac RGS proteins modulate $G_{q^-}$ and $G_{i/o}$-induced ERK and Akt phosphorylation. To isolate $G_{q^-}$ and $G_{i/o}$-mediated effects, we exclusively expressed muscarinic $M_2$ or $M_3$ receptors in COS-7 cells. Western blot analyses demonstrated increase of phosphorylation of ERK 1.7-/3.3-fold and Akt 2.4-/6-fold in $M_{2^-}/M_{3^-}$ expressing cells through carbachol stimulation. In co-expressions, $M_3/G_q$-induced activation of Akt was exclusively blunted through RGS3s/RGS3, whereas activation of ERK was inhibited additionally through RGS2/RGS5. $M_2/G_{i/o}$ induced Akt activation was inhibited by all RGS proteins tested. RGS2 had no effect on $M_2/G_{i/o}$-induced ERK activation. The high degree of specificity in RGS proteins-depending modulation of $G_{q^-}$ and $G_{i/o}$-mediated ERK and Akt activation in the muscarinic network cannot merely be attributed exclusively to RGS protein selectivity towards $G_q$ or $G_{i/o}$ proteins. Counter-regulatory mechanisms and inter-signaling cross-talk may alter the sensitivity of GPCR-induced ERK and Akt activation to RGS protein regulation.

  • A nucleosomal protein, high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) is known to be a late mediator of sepsis. Dabrafenib is a B-Raf inhibitor and initially used for the treatment of metastatic melanoma therapy. Inhibition of HMGB1 and renewal of vascular integrity is appearing as an engaging therapeutic strategy in the administration of severe sepsis or septic shock. Here, we examined the effects of dabrafenib (DAB) on the modulation of HMGB1-mediated septic responses. DAB inhibited the release of HMGB1 and downregulated HMGB1-dependent inflammatory responses by enhancing the expressions of cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) in human endothelial cells. In addition, treatment with DAB inhibited the HMGB1 secretion by CLP and sepsis-related mortality and pulmonary injury. This study demonstrated that DAB could be alternative therapeutic options for sepsis or septic shock via the inhibition of the HMGB1 signaling pathway.

  • The OFDM modulation and transmission block have been modeled in order to analyse the relationship between the 2.4GHz power amplifier distortion and output ACPR for the IEEE 802.11g wireless LAN. The nonlinear characteristic of the power amplifier has been modeled as AM-to-AM and AM-to-PM using the behavioral model, and the output spectrum is analysed with the phase distortion variation. Also, amplifier back-off value from P1dB to satisfy the required IEEE 802.11g standard spectrum mask s been simulated with modeled phase distortion, and the simulation data have been compared to the measured result by using the pre-distortion technique.

Atopic dermatitis symptoms were improved in HYGBH treated group and significant decrease in dermatitis index were observed in 12 and 14 weeks. HYGBH treated group showed significant decrease in CD4+, CD3+/CD69+ immune cell ratio in PBMC by 18% and 40.6% respectively. HYGBH treated group showed significant decrease in CD3+, CD11b+/Gr-1+ immune cell ratio in dorsal skin by 44.6% and 53.1% respectively. HYGBH treated group showed significant decrease in IL-4, IFN-${\gamma}$ in spleen by 29.5%, 7.7% respectively. HYGBH treated group showed decrease in the expression of IL-5, IL-13, IL-17 and histamine by 21%, 9.6%, 14%, and 32.2% respectively. Also the group showed decrease in the expression of IgE by 6.8% respectively. HYGBH treated group showed significant decrease in the transcription of IL-5 and IL-3 mRNA in skin by 35.5% and 23.2% respectively. The results above indicated that treatment of HYGBH improved atopic dermatitis symptoms by anti-oxidant activity as well as immune modulation activity as a clinical evidence. Also, to increase the application of fermented oriental medicine, different fermentation conditions using various microbial strains should be accumulated as the clinical evidence in the future.
