  • Home service robot are not working in the fixed task such as industrial robot, because they are together with human in the same indoor space, but have to do in much more flexible and various environments. Most of them are developed on the base of the wheel-base mobile robot in the same method as a vehicle robot for factory automation. In these days, for holonomic system characteristics, omni-directional wheels are used in the mobile robot. A holonomicrobot, using omni-directional wheels, is capable of driving in any direction. But trajectory control for omni-directional mobile robot is not easy. Especially, azimuth control which sensor uncertainty problem is included is much more difficult. This paper develops trajectory controller of 3-wheels omni-directional mobile robot using fuzzy azimuth estimator. A trajectory controller for an omni-directional mobile robot, which each motor is controlled by an individual PID law to follow the speed command from inverse kinematics, needs a precise sensing data of its azimuth and exact estimation of reference azimuth value. It has imprecision and uncertainty inherent to perception sensors for azimuth. In this paper, they are solved by using fuzzy logic inference which can be used straightforward to perform the control of the mobile robot by means of the fuzzy behavior-based scheme already existent in literature. Finally, the good performance of the developed mobile robot is confirmed through live tests of path control task.

  • The Moving Search Radar System (MSRS) monitors sea areas by moving along the coast. Since the radar is initially aligned to the front of the vehicle, it is important to know the changes in the heading azimuth of the vehicle to quickly acquire the target azimuth from the radar after the MSRS has moved. The heading azimuth can be obtained using the gyro compass, the GPS compass or the electronic compass. The electronic compass is suitable for MSRS requiring fast maneuverability due to its small volume, short stabilization time and low price. However, using a geomagnetic sensor may result in an error due to the surrounding magnetic field. Errors can make early automatic tracking of the satellites difficult and can reduce the radar detection accuracy. Therefore, this paper proposes a method to automatically compensate for the error reflecting the correction value on the radar obtained by comparing the reference azimuth calculated by solving the geodesic inverse problem using two coordinates between the radar and the geostationary satellite with the actually-directed azimuth angle of the satellite antenna. The feasibility and convenience of the proposed method were verified by applying it to the MSRS in the field.

  • Boundary layer equations (partial differential equations) can be transformed to ordinary diffential equations with constant coeffieients in terms of similarity transformed to ordinary differential equations with constant coeffieients in terms of similarity transformations in the heat tranfer analysis on the surface of any axiaymmetric boiles. The azimuth functions can not be uniquely determined because of the singular behavior at the stagnation point(X=0.deg.).In spite of the azimuth functions behaving singularly, many of researchers have analyzed the heat transfer problem on a horizontal chlinder or a sphere, supposing the set of solutions( $H_{1}$ & G$_{1}$) of being yieled from the simple differential equation to be unique solution of therazimuth functions. In order to ascertain whether mathematical incompatibility as mentioned above can be admitted in the viewpoint of enginerring or not, condensation heat transfer coefficients on a sphere are computed for all azimuth functions( $H_{1}$ G$_{1}$ & $H_{2}$ G$_{2}$) and comparisons with the experimental result are discussed.

  • This study has analysed power output characteristics of transparent thin-film PV module depending on incidence angle and azimuth. The simulation results was evaluated power outputs of transparent thin-film PV module depending on incidence angle and azimuth after calibrating the experimental and computed data. As a result, the best power output performance of transparent thin-film PV module was obtained at slope of $30^{\circ}$ to the south, producing the annual power output of 977kWh/kWp. The annual power output data demonstrated that the PV module with a slope of $30^{\circ}$ could produce a 68 % higher power output than that with a slope of $90^{\circ}$, with respect to the inclined slope of the module. Furthermore, the PV module facing south showed a 22 % higher power output than that facing to the east in terms of the angle of the azimuth.

  • The decision of threat target in the MWR(Missile Warning Radar) of GVES(Ground Vehicle Equipment System) such as MBT(Main Battle Tank) is very important. Threat decision is judged by angular rate and the accurate azimuth calculation for good threat decision is very important. The angular rate is dependent upon the direction of an approaching target. The target is classified into a threat or non-threat using a boundary condition of the angular rate. This paper presents the eighth azimuth calculation methods and compares the results.

  • We measured a solar irradiation of vertical and horizontal surface per azimuth in southern area of Korea using pyrheliometer. In comparison with the provided data from ASHRAE and CIBSE, the average amount of solar irradiation has much variation of 10 to 150% in reference with north direction. In the clear day, the measured value has much difference with the value of ASHRAE and there is similar trend in case of CIBSE. The reason why amount of irradiation of clear day is differ from the average value, is able to be assumed that the value of ASHRAE and CIRSE is made of assumption based on clear days. The result of analysis of ASHRAE and CIBSE values according to the amount irradiation value for vertical and horizontal surface per azimuth using the MBE, RSME, and t-Statistic show that the CIBSE value has more reliability for the MBE, RMSE, and t-Statistic values than ASHRAE value.

  • To research and develop an azimuth thruster, the new type of open water test dynamometers to measure thrust, torque, total thrust and duct force are designed and manufactured by Samsung Ship Model Basin(SSMB). A compact servomotor to be accurately controlled is connected to precise spiral bevel gear through shafting system combined by couplings and main shafts. The dynamometers have shown excellent linearity and repeatability for all components of forces and a torque. Also, the open water tests have been successfully performed to show the performance of the system. In near future, it is expected that the device can be used for the study of scale effects and development of azimuth thrusters.

  • In 2008, the global photovoltaic(PV) market reached 5.6GW and the cumulative PV power installed totalled almost 15GW compared to 9GW in 2007. Due to a favourable feed-in-tariff, Korea emerged in 2008 as the 4th largest PV market worldwide. PV power installation rose 495.5 percent to 268MW in 2008 compare to 45MW in 2007. However many PV systems are not installed in suitable part which is concerned about geometrical factor. It is generally recognized that the actual output of PV system in field is a function of orientation, tilt angle, irradiance, temperature, soiling and various system-related losses. Thus this paper shows that a experimental result of PV modules(A group) with uniform azimuth angle and PV modules(B group) with non-uniform azimuth angle. As a result, the electrical output of B group is decreased 48.8% as compared with electrical output of A group.

  • Active synthetic aperture sonar on the small UUV is generated several trajectory disturbances under the influences of underwater environments, and causing a large error in the synthetic aperture processing. In this paper, we analyzed the effects of azimuth resolution for the phase mismatch of the synthetic aperture focus processing when the periodic or random trajectory disturbances was generated on the side direction. The simulation results show that ghost targets are generated and azimuth resolution is very deteriorated when disturbance amplitude is greater than $0.3{\lambda}$ and disturbance period is greater than $2L_{sa}$ in the periodic trajectory disturbances environments. And detection performance on the seabed small objects by the synthetic aperture processing is shown that there is a significant effects on the azimuth resolution depending on the types and conditions of the platform trajectory disturbance variations.
