An Experimental Study on the Parts Performance of Dry CVT (건식 무단변속기 부품 성능에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The main advantages of the Dry CVT with V-belt, which has been popular in Asia, are a simple mechanism, less maintenance and low cost. The important factors which have an influence on the performance of the CVT are the weight of the centrifugal roller, the change of axial distance and spring force. Based on an experiment, the effects of load torque, speed ratio, and revolution of both the driving pulley and the driven pulley during the alteration of the axial distance, roller weight and spring constant were studied.

  • Steel-concrete composite columns are used extensively in modern buildings. Extensive research on composite columns in which structural steel are in concrete have been carried out. In-filled composite columns, however have received limited attention compared to encased columns. In this paper, interrelationship of parameters is examined into analyzing and comparing with data through ABAQUS program and experiment on concrete filled tubular column under axial load and propriety of model is checked out by FEM analysis. The main variations of this paper are width-thickness ratio of the section(B/t =33.3, 38.9, 44.4), concrete strength($f_{ck}$=240, 360kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$), and width-length ratio($L_o$/B=8.0, 10.0, 12.0, 15.0, 20.0). The ultimate value obtained through analysis is compared with test value and calculated by design code of other countries and previous studies.

An Experimental Study on the Concrete Filled Circular Steel Columns with D/t (지름두께비를 고려한 콘크리트충전 원형강관기둥에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • This paper presents an experimental study on the strength and deformation of concrete-filled circular steel short columns. Six specimens of concrete-filled circular short columns were tested under concentric compressive load. For comparsion, three specimens of circular steel short columns were also loaded to failure. The ultimate strength, ductility, and confinement mechanism of columns were compared. In the comparison, the effect of witch-thickness ratio and concrete compressive strength on the behavior of colimns were examed. As a result, the axial load verse axial average strain relationship of concrete-filled circular steel columns was very stable, because of interactions between the concrete and steel, the strength are 13% and 30% larger than the strength extimated by simply superimposed method of the concrete and steel. The ratio of the circumferential to longitudinal strain increment, both measured on the steel suface, was 0.28 up to the longitudinal strain of 0.1%, increases from 0.3 to 0.8 between the strain of 0.1% to 0.3%, and 0.8 beyond the strain of 0.3%

  • The theoretical method is developed to Investigate the nitration characteristics of the combined cylindrical shells with an annular plate joined to the shell at any arbitrary axial position. The structural coupling between shell and plate is simulated using two types of artificial springs a translational spring is introduced for translational coupling and a rotational spring is used for rotational coupling. The springs are continuously distributed along circumferential direction. Using the Rayleigh-Ritz method the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the combined shell with an annular plate examine. The effect of Inner-to-outer radius ratio, axial position of annular plate and length-to-radius ratio of shell on vibration characteristics of combined cylindrical shells is studied. The theoretical results are verified by comparison with FEM results.

  • In case of strong earthquake, upper-sheat wall lowe-frame structures show the weak-story failure at lower part. Where we should guarantee sufficient strength, energy dissipation capacity and ductility. In this study, a typical structure was selected for a prototype and four 1:2.5 scaled models, representing the subassemblages including the interior column and the deep beam, were constructed. Experimental parameters include transverse reinforcement ratio and axial force. The non- linear behavior of the subassemblages subjected to the cyclic lateral displac-ement were evaluated through investigation of the ultimate strength, ductility, load-deformation characteristics. From the results of the tests on 4 specimens, it is concluded that the strength increased as the axial force increased and the ductility increased as the transverse reinforcement ratio increased.

  • In this paper a dual-band circularly polarized stacked microstrip antenna for Global Positioning System (GPS) service and Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) service is designed. By stacking two different corner-truncated square microstrip patches, dual-band, dual polarization characteristic is obtained. Experimental results show impedance bandwidth of 60 MHz (3.8%) and axial ratio bandwidth of 6 MHz (0.4%) in GPS and impedance bandwidth of 126 MHz (4.7%) and axial ratio bandwidth of 30MHz (1.1%) in DMB.

  • A procedure for the prediction of the off-design performance of a gas turbine engine is proposed. The system performance at off-design speed is predicted by coupling the thermodynamic models of a compressor and a turbine. The off-design performance of a compressor is obtained using the stage-stackimg method, while the Ainlay-Mathieson method is used for a turbine. The procedure is applied to a single-shaft gas turbine and its predictability is found satisfactory. The results also show that the net work output increases with the increase of the turbine inlet temperature, while the thermal efficiency is marginal. The maximum thermal efficiency at design point is obtained between the highest pressure ratio and design pressure ratio.

HTS Broadband-Array Antenna for Satellite Communication

  • Superconducting four-element patch array antenna was designed and fabricated using $high-T_{c}$ superconducting (HTS) thin film. The array antenna has single-feed circularly polarization and a resonance frequency of 11.85 GHz fur satellite communication system. To fabricate this antenna $YBa_2$$Cu_3$$O_{7-x}$(YBCO) superconducting thin films were deposited using rf-magnetron sputtering technique. Sequential rotation technique based on radiation elements($0^{\circ}$ , $90^{\circ}$, 1$80^{\circ}$, $270^{\circ}$ phase delay) was utilized to achieve circularly polarization. Simulated and measured results, the analysis on resonant frequency(fr), return loss, and bandwidth are presented. The results show that 10 dB return loss bandwidth of the array antenna is 11.04 GHz~12.59 GHz (13.15%) and 3dB axial ratio bandwidth is 11.42~12.52 GHz (9.2%).).).

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate experimentally the characteristics of rotational, radial, and axial vibration for helical gears with different contact ratios. For this purpose, the gear box is specially designed and manufactured. Two helical gears with different face widths and reduction ratios are investigated. The gear vibration in each direction is measured by accelerometers attached to the gear body. Rotational vibration is the highest and radial vibration is the lowest in the gear frequencies. While the increase of rotational speed increases gear vibration, it does not always increase with torque. It is not also linearly related to the contact ratio. In addition, axial vibration is not proportional to rotational vibration.

  • Aluminum/Freon22 grooved hat pipes which have 26 axial grooves in a cross-section were manufactured and tested. The performance test was conducted by varying filling ratio and tilt angle. Operation limit, thermal resistance, overall heat transfer coefficient were investigated. The experimental result was compared with previous study which conducted in the case of a heat pipe with combined wick. The experimental result shows that thermal resistance of this heat pipe is twice smaller than that of the heat pipe with combined wick and operation limit is increased about 75%, comparing with that of heat pipe with combined wick.
