  • Hydroforming is a forming process enabling circular metal tubes to be produced in complex cross sections along curved axial paths. This forming process is widely used to manufacture parts in automotive industry. This paper presents bending and forming results to following angle of weld line positions. These compare to good bending, bad bending and without weld line model case. And then this result of after forming compare to each forming cases. The purpose of this paper is found that adaptive weld line position for bended final shape.

  • In this study, fatigue crack propagation problem of plate under multi-axial loading is mainly considered To analyze this special problem, recently developed technique called EFGM(Element-Free Galerkin Method), one of the Meshfree Methods, and general fatigue crack growth raw herein Paris law are used Using the Implemented scheme, paths of fatigue cracks by constant-amplitude load fluctuation and multiple-crack growth behavior are examined. The failure mechanism of steel plate due to crack propagation is studied. As a result, an algorithm that treats multiple fatigue crack problems is proposed. A numerical example shows that the prediction of growing paths can be achieved successfully and efficiently by proposed algorithm.

  • Hydroforming is a forming process enabling circular metal tubes to be produced in complex cross sections along curved axial paths With the availability of advanced machine design and control They offer advantages over stamped sheet metal in lower tooling cost and structural mass The technology is relatively new so that there is no large knowledge base to assist the fundamentals of tube hydroforming technology. The purpose of this paper is found that adaptive bending condition and contact condition for bended part has uniform thickness distribution.

  • The purpose of this study was to reduce the airborne noise emitted from the package air-conditioner(PAC) therefore, the optimim design melthods of the fans and the flow-paths were investigated experimentally through the anlaysis of the nose problems caused by the conventional PAC system, and the fan performance tests and the systme resistance measurements of the parts which belong to the flow-paths of the PACwere used to study these noise problems. As a results, through the optimized flow-paths of the new PAC system with the lowset system resistance, and by adjusting and matching the operating point of each fan to each PAC system, the airborne noise reductions from the new indoor PAC and the outdoor one were achieved upto 5.5 dBA and 6.6 dBA respectively in overall noise level as compared with the conventional PAC system.

  • The paper is devoted to the stability analysis of a simply supported five layer sandwich beam. The beam consists of five layers: two metal faces, the metal foam core and two binding layers between faces and the core. The main goal is to elaborate a mathematical and numerical model of this beam. The beam is subjected to an axial compression. The nonlinear hypothesis of deformation of the cross section of the beam is formulated. Based on the Hamilton's principle the system of four stability equations is obtained. This system is approximately solved. Applying the Bubnov-Galerkin's method gives an ordinary differential equation of motion. The equation is then numerically processed. The equilibrium paths for a static and dynamic load are derived and the influence of the binding layers is considered. The main goal of the paper is an analytical description including the influence of binding layers on stability, especially on critical load, static and dynamic paths. Analytical solutions, in particular mathematical model are verified numerically and the results are compared with those obtained in experiments.

  • A tube hydroformability testing system was designed and fabricated enabling to apply the forming condition along arbitrarily pre-programmed internal pressure-axial feed path. The free-bulging and T-forming tests were carried out on the extruded aluminum (A6063) tube specimens with 40.6 mm outer diameter and 2.25 mm thickness. Nine different combinations of internal pressure and axial feed, yielding different strain paths from one another, were taken into consideration in order to induce bursting at various deformation modes. Major and minor strains were automatically measured from deformed grids around the fracture using a stereo-vision-based surface strain measurement system, named ASIAS. The forming limit diagram of the A6063 tube material was successfully obtained. Most of the data points acquired from free bulging and T-forming tests appeared in the range of negative minor strain on the FLD and are mostly located near the strain paths calculated from explicit finite element simulations. The forming limit obtained from tests after pre-tension was considerably lower than that from tests without pre-tension, which showed the strain path-dependency of the forming limit as well known in the sheet forming fold.

  • Realistic assessment of the performance of reinforced concrete structural members like columns is needed for designing new structures or maintenance of the existing structural members. This assessment requires analytical capability of employing proper material models and cyclic rules and considering various load and displacement patterns. A computer application was developed to analyze the non-linear, cyclic flexural performance of reinforced concrete structural members under various types of loading paths including non-sequential variations in axial load and bi-axial cyclic load or displacement. Different monotonic material models as well as hysteresis rules, were implemented in a fiber-based moment-curvature and in turn force-deflection analysis, using proper assumptions on curvature distribution along the member, as in plastic-hinge models. Performance of the program was verified against analytical results by others, and accuracy of the analytical process and the implemented models were evaluated in comparison to the experimental results. The computer application can be used to predict the response of a member with an arbitrary cross section and various type of lateral and longitudinal reinforcement under different combinations of loading patterns in axial and bi-axial directions. On the other hand, the application can be used to examine analytical models and methods using proper experimental data.

  • Dynamic characteristics of the clearance flow between an axially oscillating rotational disk and a stationary disk were examined by experiments and computations based on a bulk flow model. In the case without pressure fluctuations at the inlet and outlet of the clearance, parallel and contracting flow paths had an effect to stabilize the axial oscillation of the rotating disk. The enlarged flow path had an effect to destabilize the axial oscillation due to the negative damping and stiffness for outward and inward flows, respectively. It was shown that the fluid force can be decomposed into the component caused by the inlet or outlet pressure fluctuation without the axial oscillation and that due to the axial oscillation without the inlet or outlet pressure fluctuation. A method to predict the stiffness and damping coefficients is proposed for general cases when the device is combined with an arbitrary flow system.

  • In order to investigate the relationship between the ring gap ratio and oil consumption, the axial motion of piston ring was measured by capacitance technique. The pressures of each land and the motions of each ring were calculated by orifice-volume method in which it is assumed that the ring gaps are the only gas leakage paths. The calculated results were compared with the measured ones. Consequently, it is known that the increase of ring gap ratio has the effect of lifting the first ring. The calculated results were roughly in accordance with those measured. Therefore, it is possible to predict the effect of design variables on the pattern of ring motion. It is known that the lift off of first ring accompanied by the increase of ring gap ratio make rise of oil consumption.

  • The cladding temperatures and axial mass distribution computed by MAAP5 were compared with their measured values in the test bundle of the Phebus Test FPT0. The computed cladding temperatures were in good agreed with the measured values in the pre-transient phase. In the transient heat-up phase, the computed temperatures were overestimated by the Baker-Just correlation in MAAP5, but the computed temperatures could simulate the subsequently measured values. The computed mass distribution in the axial direction was in qualitative agreement with the measured one for post-test fuel damage observations. The calculated flow areas of inner and outer regions in the test bundle were compared with the photographic observations. MAAP5 computed them at the height of 0.2 m where the molten pool formed was in qualitative agreement with the photographic observations. It was found that the remaining steam flow paths might be caused by the gas-liquid two-phase flow counter-current flow limitation.
