Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the real status of the utilization of Korean medicine (KM) treatment among children with cerebral palsy (CP). Methods : In a prospective observational multicenter study for children with CP aged from 6 months to 78 months, we analyzed 69 questionnaires of children currently receiving or have received KM treatment such as acupuncture and Korean herbal medicine for CP. Results : Of all the 170 participants, 32 children was currently getting KM treatment and they were getting acupuncture therapy 2.5 times per week on average. The mean expenditure per month for acupuncture and herbal medicine was respectively 32,000won and 501,000won. 37 children have discontinued KM treatment. The most frequent reason for quitting acupuncture therapy was 'inconvenience' (40.7%), followed by 'suffering of children' (33.3%). The average duration of taking Korean herbal medicine was 3.78 months and the highest reason of stopping medicine was 'rejection of children' (32.3%), followed by the 'cost burden' (22.6%). 75% of currently KM using group answered they have experienced positive effect of KM and the rate was 48.6% among the group who have ceased KM. There was a significant difference between the two groups(p=0.025). Conclusions : Further study will be required to increase the therapeutic effect and utilization of KM among the children with CP. More efforts should be made to develop less invasive acupuncture method and various shape of KM herbal medicine and to expand the insurance coverage of KM for children with CP.

Background: Propofol is the most commonly used anesthetic for sedation and target-controlled infusion (TCI) is useful for dental treatment. However, it is important to assess and maintain an adequate depth of sedation in patients with severe intellectual disabilities Therefore, in this study we aimed to evaluate the adequate propofol target concentration for dental treatment in severely intellectually disabled patients. Methods: We undertook retrospective review of the sedation records of severely intellectually disabled patients who underwent dental treatment under TCI propofol sedation from September 2011 to April 2012. We evaluated the initial target concentration, stabilized concentration of propofol and monitored vital signs, including BIS score using sedation records. Results: Total 20 patients (10 male and 10 female patients) were included in the study. Every participant was severely intellectually disabled. The mean sedation duration was $70{\pm}16$ (45-100) minutes. The initial propofol target concentration infusion amount was $2.7{\pm}0.45$ (2.0-3.0) mcg/ml. The propofol effect site concentration (Ce) was $2.6{\pm}0.7$ (1.0-4.0) mcg/ml. The average value of BIS was $52.6{\pm}13$ (28-81). During the treatment period, there were no severe complications. Conclusions: The average propofol Ce for deep sedation without any complications in intellectually disabled patients was 2.6 mcg/ml.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of weight loss in Korean Medicine (KM) obesity treatment combined with self-monitoring and to identify the relevant factors which are related to successful weight loss. In addition to this, adverse events reported by the patients were analyzed to assess the safety of KM treatments for obesity Methods: This was a retrospective observational study that analyzed the medical records of the patients that participated in the 10-week of KM treatment. All patients took herbal medicine for weight loss and were instructed to reduce calorie intake and adhere to self-monitoring. Clinical data including body weight were collected for evaluating the effect of the treatments. Behavior factors affecting weight loss were collected. The correlation between each factor and weight loss was analyzed. Adverse events (AEs) were collected at each time to evaluate the safety of the intervention. Results: One hundred eighteen patients' records were included in this study. The average weight loss was 7.64kg(74.59kg to 66.95kg). 94.9% of patients lost 5% or more of their initial weight. The degree of weight loss was identified to be related to self-assessment of diet control and self-assessment of appetite control. The average self-weighing frequency significantly increased(2.45 times/week before treatment and 4.70 times/weeks during treatment). Constipation, insomnia, and dizziness were found to be the most frequent AEs, and except for one case, most AEs were mild cases. Conclusion: From this study, we found that KM obesity treatment combined with self-monitoring showed significant weight loss without serious AE.
This investigation was carried out to evaluate the removal effect of biological contaminants for the municipal sewage treatment process at Cheonggye Cheon terminal plant which in the first plant for municipal sewage treatment in Seoul area. It was conducted in raw influent, primary treatment water and secondary treatment water from September, 1986 to July, 1987. The results were as follow; 1, The primary treatment could eliminate microbials for $65.38\%$ of total bacteria, $64.35\%$ of total coliform, $62.16\%$ of fecal coliform $69.48\%$ of pseudomonas and $64.70\%$ of fecal streptococci in averages for a year respectively. 2. The secondary treatment could eliminate microbials for $97.50\%$ of total bacteria, $97.30\%$of total coliform, $95.95\%$ of fecal coliform, $97.00\%$ of pseudomonas and $96.53\%$ of fecal streptococci in average for a year respectively. 3. In the detect rate of pathogenic agent, salmonella spp was decreased $12.5\%$ to $4.2\%$ in primary treatment and it was not detected in secondary treatment, shigella spp was detected $4.2\%$ in influent water but it was not detected in primary and secondary treatment. 4. In the seasonal variation of treatment effect, the removal of summer was the highest, and the removal of all item in winter was lower than the other seasons. 5. There was significant correlation between water temperature and microbal all items (P<0.05) $NH_3-N$ and Microbal items (P< 0.01) at raw water.
The effect of cooling rate on the damping capacity of pure Mg was studied. Two Mg samples with different cooling rates were prepared by heat treatment at 873 K for 24 h, followed by water quenching and by furnace cooling to room temperature, respectively. The average grain sizes of the Mg samples were almost identical regardless of the cooling rate, but more twins were observed in the sample with faster cooling rate. The calculated vacancy fraction was higher in the fast cooling sample than the slow cooling one. It is noted that the fast cooling sample exhibited lower damping capacity both in the strain-amplitude independent and strain-amplitude dependent regions. Higher values of vacancy concentration and number density of twins in the fast cooling sample are considered to be responsible for the deteriorated damping capacity in the strain-amplitude independent and strain-amplitude dependent regions, respectively.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of Extravascular Laser System on Osgood-Schlatter Disease Methods: In this study, we treated the 6 cases of children who were diagnosed with Osgood-Schlatter disease with Extravascular Laser System. 4 of them were treated with acupuncture as well, the other 2 were given with combined acupuncture and Blood-pricking Treatment. For evaluation, 6 children explained the degree of pain relief by comparing with degree of pain before treatment. Results: Extravascular Laser System for Osgood-Schlatter Disease resulted in a significant decline in the subjective pain degree. All of them were almost cured. The average treatment times was 6.7 times, and the average treatment period was 26.7days. Conclusions We report the good result of the efficacy of extravascular laser system on Osgood-Schlatter Desease. Cases in this study, however, were small in number. Therefore more study is required.
The effects of ball-milling time(0 ~4 hrs) have been investigated on the change of powder characteristics, compaction behavior (compaction pressure range : 200 ~400MPa) and sinterability (1700'c in Ha atmosphere) of two different UO$_2$ powders (ex-ADU and ex-AUC) prepared by the wet process. It is observed that, while the ex-ADU UO$_2$ was little affected, the ex-AUC UO$_2$ was largely affected by the ball-milling treatment. This may be attributed to the characteristics of particle size formed during the preparation step, i.e.., the former has a small average size of about 1.0${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, while the latter has a relatively large average size of about 301n. It appeared that the effective size reduction by ball-milling treatment is limited to the particle size larger than l${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, and to the extent of maximum decrease in size of about 0.5tn. In the case of ex-AUC UO$_2$, it is observed that the particle size decreased with ball-milling time and green density and sintered density of the pellets prepared from ball-milled powder increased compared with those of pellets prepared from the as-received powder under the same conditions. This may be attributed mainly to the fine particles formed during the ball-milling treatment.

This study aims to identify the regional distribution in the prevalence of dental caries and related multidimensional factors among 12-year-old children in Korea. Data from the 2018 Child Oral Health Survey were used to calculate the average DMFT index of 12-year-old children in metropolitan cities, and a multi-level regression model was applied to explain the regional distribution of dental caries prevalence and related factors. Factors were divided into two levels by administrative structure. This study finds a significant regional difference in the prevalence of dental caries in 12-year-old Korean children across metropolitan cities. Multilevel analysis showed that district-level factors (average number of pit and fissure-sealed permanent teeth, dental treatment demand rate, preventive treatment rate, sex ratio, and number of dentists per 100,000 people) and metropolitan-level factors (intakes of cariogenic beverages and number of pediatric dental hospitals and clinics per 100,000 people) had a significant effect on dental caries prevalence (p < 0.05). Individual characteristics and local socio-environmental factors influence the prevalence of dental caries. Especially considering the strong dependence on preventive treatment and accessibility to dental care services, it is necessary to provide adequate preventive treatment and expand health care resources in high-risk areas of dental caries.
Purpose: This study sought to compare needle fenestration with a corticosteroid injection for the treatment of chronic plantar fasciitis. We hypothesized that needle fenestration would be as effective as a corticosteroid injection while avoiding the potential adverse effects of the corticosteroid. Materials and Methods: Forty female patients with unilateral chronic plantar fasciitis who did not respond to a minimum of 6 months of various conservative treatments were prospectively randomized to receive either a corticosteroid injection or needle fenestration. Visual analogue scale and American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) ankle-hindfoot score were used for all patients before treatment and at 3-, 6-, and 12-month following treatment. Results: The corticosteroid injection group had a before-treatment average AOFAS Ankle-Hindfoot score of 56.4, which increased to 87.3 at 3 months and 78.2 at 6 months after treatment but decreased to 62.4 at 12 months. The needle fenestration group had a before treatment average AOFAS ankle-hindfoot score of 49.5, which increased to 77.8 at 3 months and 92.1 at 6 months after treatment and remained at a high score of 89.4 at 12 months. There were no complications in either group. Conclusion: In the treatment of chronic plantar fasciitis, needle fenestration is as effective at 3- and 6-month post-treatment as a corticosteroid injection. Also, unlike a corticosteroid, its effect remains until 12 months post-treatment.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of isoflavone supplementation using soymilk on bone mineral density in underweight college women aged 19-22 years with lower than average bone mass. The bone mineral density (BMD) of the lumbar spine and femoral neck of a number of underweight (BMI < 20) college women was measured. From this group, 33 subjects whose T-score value was below -1 were selected. Anthropometric measurements, dietary recall and BMD were measured before the study began and at the end of the 10th week. The 33 subjects were given 400 ml of soymilk containing 60 mg of isoflavones daily for 10 weeks. After 12 weeks at the end of 10 weeks treatment, the BMD of the subjects was reassessed. The average age of the subjects was 21.1 yrs. At the baseline, average height, weight, and BMI of the subjects were 161 cm, 49.1 kg, 18.8 kg/$m^2$, respectively. Mean daily intake of energy and protein was 1637.2 kcal and 61.2 g, respectively. Mean dietary isoflavone intake was 17.4 mg. Despite the 400 ml soymilk supplementation, there was no significant change in nutrient intake after the 10-week treatment. However, there were significant increases in lumbar spine and femoral neck BMD. After the study, the BMD of the subjects' spine and femoral neck was lower than that before the study. In conclusion, soymilk intake was associated with a significant increase in the BMD of the lumbar spine and femoral neck in underweight college women with lower than average bone mass.
