This paper discusses DC/DC converter modeling using average model of switch and critical characterist. Average model of switch approach is expended to the modeling of boundary conduction mode DC/DC converters that operate at the boundary between Continuous Conduction Mode(CCM) and Discontinuous Conduction Mode(DCM). Frequency responses predicted by the average model of switch are verified by simulation and experiment.
This paper presents the modeling of the sampling effect in the p-type average current mode control. The prediction of the high frequency components near half of the switching frequency in the current loop gain is given for the p-type average current mode control. By the proposed model, the prediction accuracy is improved when compared to that of conventional models. The proposed method is applied to a buck converter, and then the measurement results are analyzed.
Rectifiers are widely used in industrial applications. Although detailed models of rectifiers are usually used to evaluate their performance, they are complex and time-consuming. Therefore, the Average Value Model (AVM) has been introduced to meet the demand for a simple and accurate model. This type of rectifier modeling can be used to simplify the simulations of large systems. The AVM of diode rectifiers has been an area of interest for many electrical engineers. However, healthy diode rectifiers are only considered for average value modeling. By contrast, faults occur frequently on diodes, which eventually cause the diodes to open-circuit. Therefore, it is essential to model bridge rectifiers under this faulty condition. Indeed, conventional AVMs are not appropriate or accurate for faulty rectifiers. In addition, they are significantly different in modeling. In this paper, a novel application of the parametric average value of a three-phase line-commutated rectifier is proposed in which one diode of the rectifier is considered open-circuited. In order to evaluate the proposed AVM, it is compared with experimental and simulation results for the application of a brushless synchronous generator field. The results clearly demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed model.

In this paper, we investigated the use of seasonal autoregressive integrated moving average (SARIMA) time series models for fault detection in semiconductor etch equipment data. The derivative dynamic time warping algorithm was employed for the synchronization of data. The models were generated using a set of data from healthy runs, and the established models were compared with the experimental runs to find the faulty runs. It has been shown that the SARIMA modeling for this data can detect faults in the etch tool data from the semiconductor industry with an accuracy of 80% and 90% using the parameter-wise error computation and the step-wise error computation, respectively. We found that SARIMA is useful to detect incipient faults in semiconductor fabrication.

The Korean rolling stock safety regulation stipulates that the collision deceleration of a car body should be maintained under average 5g and maximum 7.5g during train collisions. One-dimensional dynamic model of a full rake train, which is made up of nonlinear springs/bars-dampers-masses, is often used to estimate the collision decelerations of car bodies in a basic design stage. By the way, the previous studies have often used some average force-deformation curve for energy absorbing structures in rolling stock. Through this study, we intended to analyse how much the collision deceleration levels are influenced by the initial peak force modeling in the one-dimensional force-deformation curve. The numerical results of the one-dimensional dynamic model for the Korean High-Speed Train show that the initial peak force modeling gives significant effect on the collision deceleration levels. Therefore the peak force modeling of the force-deformation curve should be considered in one-dimensional dynamic model of a full rake train to evaluate the article 16 of the domestic rolling stock safety regulations.

In EBCOT, the context modeling process takes excessive calculation time and this paper proposed a method to reduce this calculation time. That is, if the finest resolution coefficient is less than a pre-defined transfer factor the coefficient and its descendents skip the context modeling process. There is a trade-off relationship between the calculation time and the image quality or the amount of output data such that as this threshold value increases, the calculation time and the amount of output data decreases, but the image degradation increases. The experimental results showed that in this range the resulting reduction rate in calculation time was from 3% to 64% in average, the reduction rate in output data was from 32% to 73% in average.

Small-signal modeling and controller design methodology are proposed to improve the dynamics and stability of a DC-DC dual active bridge (DAB) converter. The state-space average method has a limitation when applied to the DAB converter because its state variables are nonlinear and have zero average values in a switching period. Therefore, the small-signal model and the frequency response of the DAB converter are derived and analyzed using a generalized average method instead of conventional modeling methods. The design methodology of a lead-lag controller instead of the conventional proportional-integral controller is also proposed using the derived small-signal model. The accuracy and performance of the proposed small-signal model and controller are verified by simulation and experimental results with a 500 W prototype DAB converter.

In this paper, a new dynamic excitation modeling scheme is proposed. Based upon the proposed excitation modeling scheme, two variable bit rate homomorphic vocoders are designed, whose average bit rates are 3.8 Kbps and 4.4 Kbps. The performance of the proposed excitation modeling scheme is then evaluated through the subjective listening tests. In the tests, the performances of two speech coders designed in this paper ate compared with the one of 4.8 Kbps homomorphic vocoder designed by Chung and Schafer, in which conventional static excitation modeling scheme applied. The subjective listening tests show that proposed dynamic excitation modeling scheme improves synthesized speech quality while lowering the average bit rate of speech coders.

The state-space average model is extended to buck-boost, and buck-boost topology switching mode DC/DC converters and modified to have higher precision without increment of computation. The modified model is used in continuous conduction mode(CCM) switching DC/DC converters and some significant conclusions are derived. This paper discusses the discontinuous conduction mode(DCM) modeling of DC/DC converter and critical characteristic using average model of switch. Average model of switch approach is expended to the modeling of boundary conduction mode DC/DC converters that operate at the boundary between continuous conduction mode(CCM) and discontinuous conduction mode(DCM). Frequency responses predicted by the average model of switch are verified by simulation and experiment.
