  • The aim of this study is to investigate the efficiency of using threaded rods and steel profiles to produce a steel confining system for rehabilitation of damaged concrete corbels for the first time in literature. Some of the specimens were repaired by crack repair epoxy before being confined for further enhancement. A total of 19 two sided damaged corbels were used in the study with different mechanical properties and parameters but similar dimensions. The differences were in rehabilitation style, shear span, fiber percentage, reinforcement steel diameter, and concrete strength. The rehabilitated specimens were loaded with vertical load until failure. Four different configurations were used in the investigation. Test results show that the proposed rehabilitation technique is effective to enhance the load capacity of the corbels and to improve their ductility. Moreover, new formulations were proposed to calculate the load capacity of the rehabilitated corbels. A good fit was observed between numerical and experimental results.

  • An integrated sewer management system was developed for the analysis of sewer flow and for optimal operation of sewer works using ArcView and SWMM. SWMM and ArcView were dynamically linked together using Avenue in order to construct user-friendly management system. The developed system was applied to a residential area in Choonchun city to verify its utilities. All the relevant field data were analyzed on the basis of developed system, and the modeling of sewer flow was implemented using MET, RUNOFF, TRANSPORT in SWMM. As this system can provide comprehensive prediction of flow and pollution profiles, it could serve as a tool not only for optimal management, but also for decision support system to examine the efficiency of planning and implementation of sewer projects.

This system is now in the process of connection to the management system of watershed and surface environment in order to develope an integrated environmental management system. Futhermore, this system will be a critical part of overall control system of sewer works including sewer line and wastewater treatment plant. • Dynamic analysis of complex and large structures may be costly from a numerical point of view. For coupled vibroacoustic finite element models, the importance of reducing the size becomes obvious because the fluid degrees of freedom must be added to the structural ones. In this paper, a component mode synthesis method is proposed for large vibroacoustic interaction problems. This method couples fluid subdomains and dynamical substructuring of Craig and Bampton type. The acoustic formulation is written in terms of the velocity potential, which implies several advantages: coupled algebraic systems remain symmetric, and a potential formulation allows a direct extension of Craig and Bampton's method to acoustics. Those properties make the proposed method easy to implement in an existing finite element code because the local numerical treatment of substructures and fluid subdomains is undifferentiated. Test cases are then presented for axisymmetric geometries. Numerical results tend to prove the validity and the efficiency of the proposed method.

  • The current combining of computer and geographic information technology. The result of such research oil determinate objective factors of hydrologic-topographical parameters through joining hydrology and GIS(Geographic Information System). In this study, we wish to offer the base data to determinate hydrologic-topographical parameters request of runoff model analysis in this basin. First, we computed the CN(curve number) by using GIS, and then classify the digital map of soil group and landuse on the Sulma river basin. Second, we used Avenue Script to calculate the height of efficient GIS work before using the Clark model to work out flood runoff flow.

  • Since the concept was first introduced in the 1970s, transit-oriented-development (TOD) has greatly expanded in East Asian cities such as Hong Kong. Rail stations are built together with clusters of residential-commercial towers and government services to form a new style of living - a "rail village." This paper examines the composition, scale, spatial form, organization and operation of several typical rail villages in Hong Kong. The cases range across those planned from the mid-1990s to 2015. Based on the analysis of the rail village composition, the paper derives a development ratio to indicate the density, effectiveness and efficiency of a rail village catchment area. The ratio provides a useful and direct figure for the comparison of different stations, cities and development modes.

  • The objective of this study was to determine the effects of whole linseed supplementation on performances and milk fatty acid composition of dairy cows. Thirty six Holstein Friesian crossbred lactating dairy cows were blocked by milking days first and then stratified random balanced for milk yields and body weight into three groups of 12 cows each. The control group received 300 g of palm oil. The second group was supplemented with 344 g/d of top-dressed whole linseed plus 150 g of palm oil and the third group was supplemented with 688 g/d of top-dressed whole linseed. All cows also received ad libitum grass silage (Brachiaria ruziziensis), had free access to clean water and were individually housed in a free-stall unit and individually fed according to treatments. Residual feeds were collected on 2 consecutive days weekly and at the end of the experiment. Feed samples were pooled to make representative samples for proximate and detergent analyses. Daily milk yields were recorded. Milk samples were collected on 2 consecutive days weekly. Live weights were recorded at the start and at the end of the experiment. Milk samples were taken on d 56 of the experiment and subjected to milk fatty acid composition. The results showed no statistical significant differences in intakes, live weight change, milk yields and milk compositions, however, C18:1, C18:3 and unsaturated FAs were increased while saturated FAs were reduced by whole linseed supplementation. It is recommended that the addition of 300 g/d oil from whole linseed could be beneficial to lactating dairy cows in early lactation.
