This study was conducted to investigate the effect of silicate mixed with nitrogen fertilizer on improving the growth and reducing nitrogen input of zoysiagrass. Plant height, fresh and dry weight of shoots, roots, and stolons, the number of shoots and total of stolons length were increased with highest in silicate mixed with nitrogen 24 kg/10a than nitrogen 24 kg/10a, and it showed no significance in silicate mixed with nitrogen 18 kg/10a. Nitrogen use efficiency in mixed silicate fertilizer was increased by 25-30% than single nitrogen fertilization. Moreover, the contents of available $SiO_2$, and organic matters of silicate fertilization on soil was higher than not silicate fertilization on soil. The silicate enhanced the growth and density of zoysiagrass, while it was a crucial factor to affect the chemical property of the soil.
This study aimed to improve the moisture resistance of salt cores by investigating the suitability of a two-dimensional kaolinite colloidal solution and a commercially available SiO2 ink solution as coating agents. X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) results showed that the intercalation of urea into kaolinite did not significantly change its layer structure. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images revealed that the dip-coating only affected the surface of the salt core, and the texture of the surface is differ depending on the coating solution. The humidity absorption test results showed that both coatings reduced the hygroscopicity of the salt core by more than 50%. However, in the water-solubility test, the kaolinite dissolved with the salt core, whereas the SiO2-coated salt core left a residue. These results strongly suggest that with the coating of the exfoliated kaolinite solution, salt core will remain stable in humid environments.

Graphene has attracted significant attention due to its unique characteristics and promising nanoelectronic device applications. For practical device applications, it is essential to synthesize high-quality and large-area graphene films. Graphene has been synthesized by eloborated mechanical exfoliation of highly oriented pyrolytic graphite, chemical reduction of exfoliated grahene oxide, thermal decomposition of silicon carbide, and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) on metal substrates such as Ni, Cu, Ru etc. The CVD has advantages over some of other methods in terms of mass production on large-areas substrates and it can be easily separated from the metal substrate and transferred to other desired substrates. Especially, plasma-enhanced CVD (PECVD) can be very efficient to synthesize high-quality graphene. Little information is available on the synthesis of graphene by PECVD even though PECVD has been demonstrated to be successful in synthesizing various carbon nanostructures such as carbon nanotubes and nanosheets. In this study, we synthesized graphene on $Ni/SiO_2/Si$ and Cu plate substrates with CH4 diluted in $Ar/H_2$ (10%) by using an inductively-coupled PECVD (ICPCVD). High-quality graphene was synthesized at as low as $700^{\circ}C$ with 600 W of plasma power while graphene layer was not formed without plasma. The growth rate of graphene was so fast that graphene films fully covered on substrate surface just for few seconds $CH_4$ gas supply. The transferred graphene films on glass substrates has a transmittance at 550 nm is higher 94%, indicating 1~3 monolayers of graphene were formed. FETs based on the grapheme films transferred to $Si/SiO_2$ substrates revealed a p-type. We will further discuss the synthesis of graphene and doped graphene by ICPVCD and their characteristics.
Silicate (Si) fertilizers are well-known for soil amendment and to improve rice productivity as well as nitrogen efficiency. In this study, we investigated the possible reduction level of nitrogen fertilization for rice cultivation by amending Si fertilizer application. Field experiments were carried out to evaluate the productivity of rice (Oryza sativa L.) on a silt loam soil, where three levels of nitrogen (0, 110 and $165kg\;ha^{-1}$) were selected and Si fertilizer as a slag type was applied at 0, 1 and 2 times of the recommendation level (available $SiO_2\;130mg\;kg^{-1}$). Application of Si fertilizer increased significantly the rice yield and nitrogen efficiency. With increasing N uptake of rice, 1 and 2 times of recommended levels of Si fertilization could decrease nitrogen application level to about 76 and $102kg\;N\;ha^{-1}$ to produce the target yield, the maximum yield in the non-Si amended treatment. Silicate fertilizer improved soil pH and significantly increased available phosphate and Si contents. Conclusively, the Si fertilizer could be a good alternative source for soil amendment, restoring the soil nutrient balance and to reduce the nitrogen application level in rice cultivation.

Distribution of clay minerals separated from clay fraction of corn fields in Korea has been investigated along with their characterization. Crystalline phases of the clay minerals were identified by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern, and their relative chemical compositions were analyzed by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF). The soils were found to have pH 6.4, organic matter $37.2g\;kg^{-1}$, available $P_2O_5$$599mg\;kg^{-1}$, respectively, and exchangeable K, Ca and Mg were 1.2, 7.3 and $1.8cmol_c\;kg^{-1}$, respectively. Major primary minerals consisted mainly of quartz and mica, and kaolinite and chlorite were identified as major secondary clay minerals. For most of soils, mica phase was identified to be muscovite rather than biotite. The average contents of $SiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$ and $Fe_2O_3$ were 43.7, 23.6 and 8.8%, respectively, although they were different with the locations.
High quality MCM-41 is prepared from a gel of molar composition SiO2:0.20 CTACl:0.18 TMAOH:25 H2O aged at 20 ℃ for 24 hours before crystallization lasting for 48 hours. The (110) and (200) peaks of XRD pattern of high quality MCM-41 are unusually well resolved and the FWHM (full-width-at-half-maximum) of the (100) peak is 0.13° for as-prepared MCM-41 and 0.21° for calcined one, which indicate well-developed crystals. The properties of the crystal depend on the source and concentration of the reactants and the gel aging time. There is no induction period in the course of the synthesis, which is conveniently monitored by pH measurement. Gel aging, during which a spatial distribution of silicate polyanions and micellar cations is established, is essential for preparing high quality MCM-41. Surfactants with the same cationic organic group but different counteranions change the crystallization behavior. Highly basic gel (pH=12.6) favours the lamellar product; the quality of MCM-41 is lower as insufficient TMAOH is available to dissolve the silica.
This experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of amount of nitrogen application with the barley straw application on the changes in soil physical and chemical properties. nutrient uptake and percentage recovery of chemical fertilizer N in the rice plant from 1997 to 1998. The soil physical properties, such as bulk density, hardness, porosity and gaseous phase were improved by barley straw application. There was also improvement or increment in the soil chemical properties, such as pH, organic matter, T-C. T-N, available $SiO_2$, exchangeable K and cation exchange capacity, but decrease in available $P_2O_5$. The $Fe^{+{+}}$ content in soil after barley straw application was high from tillering stage to panicle forming stage, but becoming lowered toward the heading stage, while $Mn^{+{+}}$ content was increased. N uptake with barley straw application was increased in the N $126kg\;ha^{-1}$ plot, but decreased in the N $141kg\;ha^{-1}$ plot. The uptake of fertilized N was continued longer in barley straw application than none-application plot. Percentage recovery of chemical fertilizer N in rice straw was around 1% at tillering stage, but was highly increasing till maximum tillering stage, while the recovery was generally low in barley straw application. Meanwhile, fertilizer P uptake in barley straw application was high, but potassium uptake was low at all different levels of N application.
This study was aimed to find out the influence of long-term fertilization for 21 years on soil enzyme activities in the silty clay loam textured normal paddy soil. Total urease activity (TUA) and the microbial urease activity (MUA) were shown to be changed significantly, but the accumulated urease activity (AUA) was similar within trial plots. Especially the MUA of the plots annually applied N.P.K. fertilizers with compost and N.P.K. fertilizers with silicate fertilizer were the highest among plots. The total L-glutaminase activity (TGA) and the accumulated L-glutaminase activity(AGA) were changed significantly among trial plots, but the microbial L-glutaminase activity (MGA) was not. By the simple correlation analysis, it was shown that the TGA and the AGA correlated highly significant to available phosphorus available $SiO_2$ content and pH. Addition of the toluene to the incubation mixture did not markedly affect the activity of phosphatase, but the difference of phosphatase activity among plots was significant. By the simple correlation analysis, it was shown that the phosphatase activity ; correlated highly significant to pH, available $SiO_2$, available phosphorus and exchangeable calcium in soils.
$ReMnO_3$(Re:Y, Ho, Er) thin films were prepared by MOCVD method available to non-volatile memory device with MFS-FET structure. $ReMnO_3$ thin films were deposited on the Si(100) substrate at 700${\circ}C$ for 2h. When the films were post-annealed at 900${\circ}C$ for 1h in air, the single phase of hexagonal $ReMnO_3$ thin films were detected. Ferroelectric properties of $ReMnO_3$ thin films were dependent on the degree of c-axis orientation in the single phase of hexagonal structure and remnant polarization (Pr) of $YMnO_3$ thin films with high degree of c-axis orientation was 105 nC/$cm^2$. Leakage current density was dependent on the grain size of microstructure and that of $YMnO_3$ thin films with grain size of 100∼150 nm was $10^{-8}$ A/$cm^2$ at applied voltage of 0.5 V.
Porous SiC candle filter preforms were fabricated by extrusion and ramming process. To fabricate SiC candle filter preform, commercially available 85 ${\mu}m\;{\alpha}-$-SiC powder and 44 ${\mu}m$ mullite, CaC$O_3$ powder were used as the starting materials. The candle type preforms were fabricated by vacuum extrusion and ramming process, and sintered at $1400{^{\circ}C}$ 2 h in air atmosphere. The effect of forming method on porosity, density, strength (flexural and compressive strength) and microstructure was investigated. Also, corrosion test of the sintered candle filter specimens as forming method was performed at $600{^{\circ}C}$ in IGCC syngas atmosphere. The sintered SiC filter which was formed by ramming process has more higher density and exhibit higher strength than extruded filter. Its maximum density and 3-point bending strength were 2.00 g/$cm^3$ and 45 MPa, respectively.
