Improved Single-Stage AC-DC LED-Drive Flyback Converter using the Transformer-Coupled Lossless Snubber

  • This paper presents an improved single-stage ac-dc LED-drive flyback converter using the transformer-coupled lossless (TCL) snubber. The proposed converter is derived from the integration of a full-bridge diode rectifier and a conventional flyback converter with a simple TCL snubber. The TCL snubber circuit is composed of only two diodes, a capacitor, and a transformer-coupled auxiliary winding. The TCL snubber limits the surge voltage of the switch and regenerates the energy stored in the leakage inductance of the transformer. Also, the switch of the proposed converter is turned on at a minimum voltage using a formed resonant circuit. Thus, the proposed converter achieves high efficiency. The proposed converter utilizes only one general power factor correction (PFC) control IC as its controller and performs both PFC and output power regulation, simultaneously. Therefore, the proposed converter provides a simple structure and an economic implementation and achieves a high power factor without the need for any separate PFC circuit. In this paper, the operational principle of the proposed converter is explained in detail and the design guideline of the proposed converter is briefly shown. Experimental results for a 40-W prototype are shown to validate the performance of the proposed converter.

  • 본 논문에서 다이오드정류기와 커패시터 필터로 구성된 입력전원을 가지고 동작되는 60W이하의 출력파워용량을 갖는 노트북용 어댑터를 위한 새로운 LLC 공진컨버터에 대한 내용이다. 보조스위치의 동작에 의해 제안된 LLC 공진컨버터는 모든 입력전원 (110VAC/220VAC) 및 부하조건에서 높은 효율특성을 가지고 전력을 전달 할 수 있다. 제안된 컨버터에 대한 동작특성에 대해 분석, 서술되어 있으며, 60W 시제품제작 및 실험을 통하여 적용 가능함을 보였다.

양자암호시스템을 위한 단일광자검출기

  • 본고에서는 차세대 보안통신 기술로 주목 받고 있는 양자암호시스템의 핵심 모듈인 단일광자 검출기의 최신 연구동향과 KIST 연구개발 내용에 대해 기술한다. 현재 상용화 수준으로까지 발전한 유선 양자암호 시스템에서는 성능, 소형화, 가격 등의 장점으로 인해 주로 InGaAs/InP avalanche photo diode (APD)를 이용한 단일광자검출기가 사용되고 있다. 유선 양자암호에서 사용하는 1550nm 통신 파장대의 단일광자가 갖는 에너지는 0.8 eV로 매우 미약한 수준이기 때문에 신호 검출을 위해 APD소자를 내부 증폭 이득이 무한대인 가이거모드(Geiger mode)에서 동작시킨다. 매우 높은 증폭비는 신호 검출뿐만 아니라 노이즈에도 동일하게 영향을 미치기 때문에 주변환경 노이즈에 의한 검출기 오동작 문제가 심각하게 발생한다. 따라서 단일광자검출기 구현에서 가장 중요한 기술은 소자 및 검출기 모듈에서 발생하는 노이즈의 영향을 최소화 시켜주는 것이다. 전세계적으로 검출기의 대표적인 노이즈인 after pulse를 저감 시키기 위한 연구가 매우 활발히 이루어지고 있는데 대표적으로 self-differencing, auxiliary signal, integrating, double balanced 등의 방법이 제시되고 있다. 본고에서는 각각의 최신 기술들에 대한 비교 분석 및 이를 바탕으로 현재 KIST에서 진행하고 있는 양자암호시스템을 위한 단일광자검출기 기술 개발에 대해 서술한다.

  • 본 논문에서는 다이오드정류기와 커패시터 필터로 구성된 입력전원을 가지고 동작되는 60W이하의 출력파워용량을 갖는 어댑터를 위한 새로운 LLC 공진컨버터에 대한 내용이다. 보조스위치의 동작에 의해 제안된 LLC 공진컨버터는 모든 입력전원 ($110V_{AC}$/ $220V_{AC}$) 및 부하조건에서 높은 효율특성을 가지고 전력을 전달 할 수 있다. 제안된 컨버터에 대한 동작특성에 대해 분석, 서술되어 있으며, 60W 시제품제작 및 실험을 통하여 적용 가능함을 보였다.

  • Input Current Correction of Single-Phase Buck Rectifier is studied in the paper. To sinusoidal waveform the input current with a near-unity power factor over a wide variety of operating conditions, the output capacitor is operated with voltage reversibility for the supply by arranging the auxiliary diode and power switching device. Then the output voltage is superposed on the input voltage during on time duration of power switching devices in order to minimize the input current distortion caused by the small input voltage when changing the polarity. The tested setup, using two insulated-gate bipolar transistors(IGBT) and a microcomputer, is implemented and IGBT are switched with 20[kHz], which is out of the audible band. Moreover, a rigorous state-space analysis is introduced to predict the operation of the rectifier. The simulated results confirm that the input current can be sinusoidal waveform with a near-unity power factor and a satisfactory output voltage regulation can be achieved.

Zero-Voltage-Transition Buck Converter for High Step-Down DC-DC Conversion with Low EMI

  • In this study, a new zero-voltage transition (ZVT) buck converter with coupled inductor using a synchronous rectifier and a lossless clamp circuit is proposed. The regular buck converter with tapped inductor has extended duty cycle for high step-down applications. However, the leakage inductance of the coupled inductor produced considerable voltage spikes across the switch. A lossless clamp circuit is used in the proposed converter to overcome this problem. The freewheeling diode was replaced with a synchronous rectifier to reduce conduction losses in the proposed converter. ZVT conditions at turn-on and turn-off instants were provided for the main switch. The synchronous rectifier switch turned on under zero-voltage switching, and the auxiliary switch turn-on and turn-off were under zero-current condition. Experimental results of a 100 W-100 kHz prototype are provided to justify the validity of the theoretical analysis. Moreover, the conducted electromagnetic interference of the proposed converter is measured and compared with its hard-switching counterpart.

토템폴 브릿지리스 PFC의 내부 손실 분석과 병렬 스위치를 사용한 효율 개선에 관한 연구 (A Study on Internal Loss Analysis of Totem Pole Bridgeless PFC and Efficiency Improvement using Parallel Switch)

  • In this paper, a generalized efficiency equation was proposed to estimate the internal loss of the SMPS (switched-mode power supply) with 3 variables. The first variable was an internal loss not related to the load current such as auxiliary power, the second was a loss proportional to the current such as diode loss, and the third was a loss proportional to square of the current such as conduction loss. Especially, theoretical internal losses of the totem pole bridgeless PFC which is widely used for high efficiency SMPS were expressed as output function to compare generalized efficiency equation. In addition, in order to reduce the conduction loss of the switch, when a multiple switch were paralleled, the correlation with the efficiency was analyzed and shown as a graph. In order to confirm the degree of the parallel switch structure on the efficiency improvement, a 2kW class totem pole bridgeless PFC was constructed and the effectiveness of the analysis was confirmed by comparing the generalized efficiency equation and theoretical loss analysis results with experimental data.

동기 정류기를 이용한 태양광 모듈용 플라이백 인버터 소프트 스위칭 제어 기법 (Soft Switching Control Method for Photovoltaic AC Module Flyback Inverter using Synchronous Rectifier)

  • In this paper, high efficiency control method for flyback inverter with synchronous rectifier(SR) based on photovoltaic AC modules is proposed. In this control method, the operation of SR is classified according to the voltage spike across main switch SP. When the voltage spike across SP is lower than the rating voltage of SP, the operation of active clamp circuit is interrupted for reducing the switching loss of auxiliary switch. In this time, the SR is operated for soft-switching of SP. When the voltage spike across Sp is higher than the rating voltage of SP, the operation of active circuit is activated for reducing the voltage spike. The SR is operated for reducing the conduction loss of secondary output diode. Thus, a switching loss of the main switch can be reduced in low power region, and weighted-efficiency can be improved. A theoretical analysis and the design principle of the proposed method are provided. And validity is confirmed through simulation and experimental results.

유도 가열에 적용되는 새로운 PWM 고주파 인버터의 특성 (Characteristics of New PWM High Frequency Inverter Applied to Induction Heating)

  • In this paper, the operation principle of a bi-directional switch type resonant AC link snubber circuit was described, together with the practical design procedure, which employs in the proposed power module bridge package type resonant AC link snubber. The novel prototype of power module bridge package type resonant AC link snubber-assisted voltage type sinewave soft switching PWM inverter using IGBT power module was demonstrated herein. It was verified that both the auxiliary power switches in this resonant AC link snubber circuit and the main power switches commutate under the condition of soft switching commutation principle. In addition, the power losses of the new soft switching inverter treated here were analyzed by implementing the experimental data of the IGBT and diode v-i characteristics in addition to switching power loss characteristics into our original computer simulation software developed by the authors. Then, the voltage type sinewave soft switching PWM inverter was high efficiency than that of hard switching PWM inverter, along with performance operation waveforms. In the future, the comparative feasibility study of power module bridge type resonant AC link snubber and its related soft switching inverter in addition to the other types resonant snubber assisted soft switching inverter should be done from a practical point of view.

터널 조명 고압나트륨램프와 LED램프의 LCC 분석 사례 연구 (A case study of life cycle cost analysis on high pressure sodium lamp and LED lamp for tunnel lighting)

  • 터널은 주·야간 모두 인공조명을 사용해야 되는 특성으로 인해 에너지 소비가 가장 많이 발생하는 도로 공간으로, 전기요금 절감 등을 위해 기존 터널조명 광원 대비 낮은 소비전력, 장수명의 장점을 갖는 LED램프로 교체 중에 있다. 터널구조물은 공용 중 부속시설 교체라는 일련의 중장기적이고 지속적인 과정이 수반되므로, 시설물 공용기간 동안의 생애주기비용을 고려해야 사회간접자본의 효율적인 활용을 기대할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서 터널 조명광원을 고압나트륨램프에서 LED램프로 교체 시 LCC측면의 절감효과를 정량적으로 분석하였으며, 터널 조명 광원을 LED램프로 교체 시 램프의 수명증대에 의한 교체주기 감소 및 이로 인한 유지관리 비용 감소효과가 매우 큰 것으로 나타났다.
