This paper presents an asymptotic formation control scheme for a group of underactuated autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) where only three control inputs - surge force, yaw moment and pitch moment are available for each vehicle's six degree of freedom (DOF) underwater motion. Usually, the dynamics agents applied in most of the formation algorithms presented so far have been modeled as particle systems, which is a simple double-integrator system. Therefore, these algorithms cannot be directly applicable to the practical systems, especially to the underwater vehicles whose dynamics are highly nonlinear. Moreover, the vehicles considered in this paper are underactuated. The formation control is derived using general potential function method, and the corresponding potential function consists of two parts: interactions between vehicles and virtual-leader following. Proposed formation scheme guarantees asymptotic local stability of closed-loop system. Numerical simulations are carried out to illustrate the effectiveness of proposed formation scheme.
In this paper, the model-matching control in the longitudinal autonomous driving system is investigated by vehicle dynamics simulation, which contains nonlinear subcomponents and simplified subcomponents. The design of the robust model-matching controller is performed by the characteristics of the 2 degrees of freedom controller, which is composed of the feedforward compensator and the feedback compensator. It makes the characteristics of tractive and brake force to be equivalent to the specific transfer function, which is suggested as the reference model. Mathematical models of vehicle dynamic analysis including the model-matching control are constructed for computer simulation. Then, simple examples on open-loop simulation without any controller and closed loop simulation with the model-matching controller are applied to check the validity of the robust controller. As the practical example, the autonomous driving system in the longitudinal direction is adopted. It is proved that the model-matching control is effective and adequate to the disturbances and the perturbations, which are shown in the responses of the change of a vehicle mass and a road gradient.
This paper proposes an autonomous decentralized control for a parallel connected uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system based on a fast power detection method using a FPGA based hardware controller for a single phase system. Each UPS unit detects only its output voltage and current without communications signal exchange and a quasi dq transformation method is applied to detect the phase and amplitude of the output voltage and the output current for the single phase system. Fast power detection can be achieved based on a quasi dq transformation, which results in a realization of very fast transient response under rapid load change. In the proposed method, the entire control system is implemented in one FPGA chip. Complicated calculations are assigned to hardware calculation logic, and the parallel processing circuit makes it possible to realize minimized calculation time. Also, an Nios II CPU core is implemented in the same FPGA chip, and the software can be applied for non-time critical calculations. Applying this control system, an autonomous decentralized UPS system with very fast transient response is realized. Feasibility and stable operation are confirmed by means of an experimental setup with three UPSs connected in parallel. Also, rapid load change is applied and excellent performance of the system is confirmed in terms of transient response and stability.
This paper presents a framework of hybrid dynamic control systems for the motion control of wheeled mobile robot systems with nonholonomic constraints. The hybrid control system has the 3-layered hierarchical structure: digital automata for the higher process, mobile robot system for the lower process, and the interface as the interaction process between the continuous dynamics and the discrete dynamics. In the hybrid control architecture of mobile robot, the continuous dynamics of mobile robots are modeled by the switched systems. The abstract model and digital automata for the motion control are developed. In high level, the discrete states are defined by using the sensor-based search windows and the reference motions of a mobile robot in low level are specified in the abstracted motions. The mobile robots can perform both the motion planning and autonomous maneuvering with obstacle avoidance in indoor navigation problem. Simulation and experimental results show that hybrid system approach is an effective method for the autonomous maneuvering in indoor environments

This paper presents a neural network adaptive controller for autonomous diving control of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) using adaptive backstepping method. In general, the dynamics of underwater robotics vehicles (URVs) are highly nonlinear and the hydrodynamic coefficients of vehicles are difficult to be accurately determined a priori because of variations of these coefficients with different operating conditions. In this paper, the smooth unknown dynamics of a vehicle is approximated by a neural network, and the remaining unstructured uncertainties, such as disturbances and unmodeled dynamics, are assumed to be unbounded, although they still satisfy certain growth conditions characterized by 'bounding functions' composed of known functions multiplied by unknown constants. Under certain relaxed assumptions pertaining to the control gain functions, the proposed control scheme can guarantee that all the signals in the closed-loop system satisfy to be uniformly ultimately bounded (UUB). Simulation studies are included to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme, and some practical features of the control laws are also discussed.
In this paper we introduce the notions of topological entropy and topological pressure for non-autonomous iterated function systems (or NAIFSs for short) on countably infinite alphabets. NAIFSs differ from the usual (autonomous) iterated function systems, they are given [32] by a sequence of collections of continuous maps on a compact topological space, where maps are allowed to vary between iterations. Several basic properties of topological pressure and topological entropy of NAIFSs are provided. Especially, we generalize the classical Bowen's result to NAIFSs ensures that the topological entropy is concentrated on the set of nonwandering points. Then, we define the notion of specification property, under which, the NAIFSs have positive topological entropy and all points are entropy points. In particular, each NAIFS with the specification property is topologically chaotic. Additionally, the ${\ast}$-expansive property for NAIFSs is introduced. We will prove that the topological pressure of any continuous potential can be computed as a limit at a definite size scale whenever the NAIFS satisfies the ${\ast}$-expansive property. Finally, we study the NAIFSs induced by expanding maps. We prove that these NAIFSs having the specification and ${\ast}$-expansive properties.

In 2017, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopted MSC.428 (98), which recommends establishing a cyber-risk management system in Ship Safety Management Systems (SMSs) from January 2021. The 27th International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) also discussed prioritizing cyber-security (cyber-risk management) in developing systems to support Maritime Autonomous Surface Ship (MASS) operations (IALA guideline on developments in maritime autonomous surface ships). In response to these international discussions, Korea initiated the Korea Autonomous Surface Ship technology development project (KASS project) in 2020. Korea has been carrying out detailed tasks for cybersecurity technology development since 2021. This paper outlines the basic concept of ship network security equipment for supporting MASS ship operation in detailed task of cybersecurity technology development and defines ship network security equipment interface for MASS ship applications.
Autonomous weapon systems act according to artificial intelligence-based judgement based on recognition through various sensors. Test and evaluation for various scenarios is required depending on the characteristics that artificial intelligence-based judgement is made. As a part of this approach, this paper proposed a LiDAR point cloud augmentation method for mixed-reality based test and evaluation. The augmentation process is achieved by mixing real and virtual LiDAR signals based on the virtual LiDAR synchronized with the pose of the autonomous weapon system. For realistic augmentation of test and evaluation purposes, appropriate intensity values were inserted when generating a point cloud of a virtual object and its validity was verified. In addition, when mixing the generated point cloud of the virtual object with the real point cloud, the proposed method enhances realism by considering the occlusion phenomenon caused by the insertion of the virtual object.
