Two tales of platoon intelligence for autonomous mobility control: Enabling deep learning recipes

  • This paper surveys recent multiagent reinforcement learning and neural Myerson auction deep learning efforts to improve mobility control and resource management in autonomous ground and aerial vehicles. The multiagent reinforcement learning communication network (CommNet) was introduced to enable multiple agents to perform actions in a distributed manner to achieve shared goals by training all agents' states and actions in a single neural network. Additionally, the Myerson auction method guarantees trustworthiness among multiple agents to optimize rewards in highly dynamic systems. Our findings suggest that the integration of MARL CommNet and Myerson techniques is very much needed for improved efficiency and trustworthiness.

  • In this study, the status of global advanced air mobility (AAM) was investigated to derive information and communications technologies (ICTs) that should be prepared according to directions of domestic AAM development. AAM is an urban air traffic system for moving from city to city by electric vertical take-off and landing or personal aircraft. It is expected to establish a three-dimensional air traffic system that can solve ground traffic congestion caused by the rapid global urbanization. With the full-scale commercialization of AAM solutions, high-density air traffic is expected, and with the advent of the personal air vehicle (PAV), the flight space usage is expected to expand. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a safe AAM service through early research on core ICTs for autonomous flight.

  • Industrial and economical importance of CP(Cellular Phone) is growing rapidly. Combined with IT technology, CP is one of the most attractive technologies of today. However, unless we find a new breakthrough in the technology, its growth may slow down soon. RT(Robot Technology) is considered one of the most promising next generation technologies. Unlike the industrial robot of the past, today's robots require advanced features, such as soft computing, human-friendly interface, interaction technique, speech recognition object recognition, among many others. In this paper, we present a new technological concept named RCP (Robotic Cellular Phone) which integrates RT and CP in the vision of opening a combined advancement of CP, IT, and RT, RCP consists of 3 sub-modules. They are $RCP^{Mobility}$(RCP Mobility System), $RCP^{Interaction}$, and $RCP^{Integration}$. The main focus of this paper is on $RCP^{Mobility}$ which combines an autonomous navigation system of the RT mobility with CP. Through $RCP^{Mobility}$, we are able to provide CP with robotic functions such as auto-charging and real-world robotic entertainment. Ultimately, CP may become a robotic pet to the human beings. $RCP^{Mobility}$ consists of various controllers. Two of the main controllers are trajectory controller and self-localization controller. While the former is responsible for the wheel-based navigation of RCP, the latter provides localization information of the moving RCP With the coordinates acquired from RFID-based self-localization controller, trajectory controller refines RCP's movement to achieve better navigation. In this paper, a prototype of $RCP^{Mobility}$ is presented. We describe overall structure of the system and provide experimental results on the RCP navigation.

교통약자 자율주행서비스 요구사항에 대한 우선순위 연구: 휠체어 이용 장애인 및 보행 장애인을 중심으로 (A Study on the Priority of Autonomous Driving Service Requirements for the Transportation Vulnerable: Focusing on Wheelchair disabled and Walking disabled Persons)

  • The development of autonomous driving technology is expected to bring about a major change in the mobility rights of the transportation vulnerable. It is very important to identify user requirements in developing autonomous vehicles and service technologies for the transportation vulnerable. User requirements were derived for the wheelchair disabled and the walking disabled. Through focus interviews, a total of 58 requirements were derived for wheelchair-using disabled people and 53 requirements for walking disabled people. A Kano survey was conducted on 33 wheelchair disabled and 34 walking disabled. After that, the quality types of functional requirements in terms of autonomous vehicles and service environment development were analyzed using the Kano model. Priority analysis was conducted on the functions required by the wheelchair disabled and the walking disabled. The results of this study can be used as basic data to determine the priorities of user function requirements in the early stages of autonomous vehicle and service technology development.

실외 주행 로봇의 이동 성능 개선을 위한 지형 분류 (Terrain Classification for Enhancing Mobility of Outdoor Mobile Robot)

  • One of the requirements for autonomous vehicles on off-road is to move stably in unstructured environments. Such capacity of autonomous vehicles is one of the most important abilities in consideration of mobility. So, many researchers use contact and/or non-contact methods to determine a terrain whether the vehicle can move on or not. In this paper we introduce an algorithm to classify terrains using visual information(one of the non-contacting methods). As a pre-processing, a contrast enhancement technique is introduced to improve classification of terrain. Also, for conducting classification algorithm, training images are grouped according to materials of the surface, and then Bayesian classification are applied to new images to determine membership to each group. In addition to the classification, we can build Traversability map specified by friction coefficients on which autonomous vehicles can decide to go or not. Experiments are made with Load-Cell to determine real friction coefficients of various terrains.

  • The power wheelchair is an important and convenient mobility device. The demand of power wheelchair is increasing for assistance in mobility. In this paper we proposed a robotic wheelchair for mobility aid to reduce the burden from the disabled. The main issue in an autonomous wheelchair is the automatic detection and avoidance of obstacles and going to the pre-designated place. The proposed algorithm detects the obstacles and avoids them to drive the wheelchair to the desired place safely with panning scan from sensors of distance measurement and fuzzy control. By this way, the disabled will not always have to worry about paying deep attention to the surroundings and his path.

Lv 4+ 자율주행 테스트 시나리오 개발을 위한 자율주행차량 위험 사례 분석: 인지 음영을 중심으로 (Analysis of Autonomous Vehicles Risk Cases for Developing Level 4+ Autonomous Driving Test Scenarios: Focusing on Perceptual Blind)

  • 자율주행차량(AV)의 기술 발전으로 실도로 내 자율주행이 가능해졌지만, 주변 요소로 AV의 인지 범위 또는 능력이 제한되는 인지 음영으로 완전한 자율주행에 어려움이 있다. 오늘날 Lv 4+ 자율주행 테스트 시나리오를 개발하기 위해서는 실제 도로에서 발생할 수 있는 다양한 인지 음영 상황을 파악하고 대비 전략을 구상하는 것이 중요하다. 따라서, 본 연구는 미국 캘리포니아 차량관리국(DMV)의 AV 사고 데이터를 통해 자율주행 모드 활성화 여부에 따라 AV와 일반차량의 사고 형태와 특성을 비교하고, AV 제어권 전환 데이터를 단계적으로 분류하여 인지 음영으로 인한 제어권 전환의 유형과 실제 사례를 도출하였다. 분석 결과, AV의 안전 운전 기동으로 일반 차량과 다른 사고 유형이 나타났으며, 3가지 유형의 인지 음영 사례를 파악하였다. 본 연구 결과는 Lv 4+ 자율주행 테스트 시나리오 개발의 중요한 기초자료가 될 것이며, 다양한 인지 음영이 고려된 테스트 시나리오를 통해 상황별 인지 음영을 해소하는 효율적인 전략을 마련할 수 있다. 이를 통해 실제 도로에서의 AV 주행 안전성을 효과적으로 평가하고 향상할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

완전 자율주행 모빌리티의 리빙 스페이스 디자인에 대한 인식 (Perceptions of Living Space Design for Fully Autonomous Vehicle)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 완전 자율주행 모빌리티의 리빙 스페이스에 대한 일반인의 인식을 조사하기 위한 서술적 조사연구이다. 국내에서 운전하는 20대~60대 성인 250명에게 설문 조사를 하여 그중 응답을 완료한 204명을 최종 분석에 사용하였다. 수집된 자료는 빈도분석, 독립표본 t검정, 회귀분석을 사용하여 분석하였다. 완전자율주행 모빌리티 실내의 모빌리티 퍼니처 개념에 대해 이동성, 순응성, 전환성, 상호작용성의 4가지 핵심요소를 적용하는 것이 적절한지에 대한 의견은 5점 척도에 평균 3.76점으로 약간 높았다. 완전자율주행 모빌리티에 적용이 필요한 기능으로는 '수면과 휴식'이 46.4%(130)로 가장 많았으며, '엔터테인먼트' 19%(53), '회의 및 업무' 18.3%(51), '건강관리' 10.8%(30) 순이었다. 본 연구의 결과들이 완전자율주행 모빌리티의 핵심요소인 '리빙 스페이스' 디자인을 위한 기초적인 자료로 활용될 것으로 기대한다.
