LED (Light Emitting Diode) lighting is gaining more and more market penetration as one of the global warming countermeasures. LED is the next generation of fusion source composed of epi/chip/packaging of semiconductor process technology and optical/information/communication technology. LED has been applied to the existing industry areas, for example, automobiles, TVs, smartphones, laptops, refrigerators and street lamps. Therefore, LED makers have been striving to achieve the leading position in the global competition through development of core source technologies even before the promotion and adoption of LED technology as the next generation growth engine with eco-friendly characteristics. However, there has been a point of view on the cost compared to conventional lighting as a large obstacle to market penetration of LED. Therefore, companies are developing a Chip-Scale Packaging (CSP) LED technology to improve performance and reduce manufacturing costs. In this study, we perform patent analysis associated with Flip-Chip CSP LED and flow chart for promising technology forecasting. Based on our analysis, we select key patents and key patent players to derive the business strategy for the business success of Flip-Chip CSP PKG LED products.

Although research and development of existing steel-made Cowl Cross Member(CCM) was carried out with magnesium and plastic to make vehicles lighter, it is difficult to apply them to performance problems in the vehicle's mounting condition. Recently, the company is conducting research on the injection CCM of the composite insert as a lightweight component that is most suitable for mass-production of automotive parts. This is a manufacturing process that inserts composite injection bracket parts into aluminum bar, and the adhesion of the two parts is one of the important factors considering the vehicle's mounting conditions. In this study, the joint strength of Aluminum bar is one of the important factors as a study for the injection of aluminum bar into PA6-GF60 composite material. For the analysis of these research, the method of spraying adhesive to the aluminum bar and the case of knurling treatment have been analyzed and the bonding strength of the direction of rotation and lateral direction has been analyzed for each part between the aluminum bar of the cowl cross member and the shape of the injection component of composite materials.

Recently, owing to the high demand for eco-friendly cars in the automotive industry, noise and vibrations have become major challenges. The use of laminated damping steel is increasing in response to these demands. Laminated damping steel is primarily used in sound insulation plates. The vibration energy is converted into thermal energy due to the viscoelastic resin being located between two steel sheets and being able to damp the vibrations when an external force, such as, noise or vibration is applied to the steel plate. Laminated damping steel is chiefly applied to dash panels in automotive body parts, and because of its structure, junction technology for bonding with other components is necessary. However, there has not been sufficient research conducted on junctions. In this study, regardless of the electrode shape, in the range of 4.0 ~ 8.0 kA welding current, the same welding force and welding time were applied which were 2.8 kN and 200 m/s (12 cycles) and the tensile shear load and nugget size were analyzed after the resistance spot welding between different materials of laminated damping steel with a thickness of 1.035 mm. The results show that in the range of 5 ~ 8 kA welding current, 1.035 mm laminated damping steel meets the MS181-15 standard, which is the technical standard of Hyundai-Kia Motors.

The roll forming process is often used to manufacture long, thin-walled products such as a pipe. The final cross-section is a comparatively simple open-channel, a closed tube section or a complex profile with several bends. In recent years, that process is often applied to the bumper beam in the automotive industries. In this study, a optimal Center Floor Cross Member manufacturing technology, model deign and proper roll-pass sequences can be suggested by forming number of roll-pass and bending angle, and also effects of the process parameters on the final shape formed by roll forming defects were evaluated.

This research investigates the manufacturing process and characteristics analysis of $BKNO_3$ (Boron Potassium Nitrate) as pyrotechnic are commonly found in the aerospace, defense, and automotive industries. A solid pyrotechnic mixture is composed of an oxidizing agent, fuel, and binder. Precipitation process was used to uniformly mix the raw material. Through the analysis of the material characteristics and thermal response is designed optimum ratio by NASA CEA program. It was compared by performing the evaluation of these size/shape/sensitivity/calorimetry characteristics.
Partial reinforcement of sheet metal parts with CFRP patch is a technology that can realize ultra-lightweight body parts while overcoming the high material cost of carbon fiber. Performing these patchworks with highly productive press equipment solves another issue of CFRP: high process costs. The A-pillar is the main body part and has an undercut shape for fastening with other parts such as roof panels and doors. Therefore, it is difficult to bond CFRP patches to the A-pillar with a general press forming tool. In this paper, a flexible system that applies uniform pressure to complex shapes using ceramic particles and silicone rubber is proposed. By benchmarking various A-pillars, a reference model with an undercut shape was designed, and the system was configured to realize a uniform pressure distribution in the model. The ceramic spherical particles failed to realize the uniform distribution of high pressure due to their high hardness and point contact characteristics, which caused damage to the CFRP patch. Compression equipment made of silicone rubber was able to achieve the required pressure level for curing the epoxy. Non-adhesion defects between the metal and the CFRP patch were confirmed in the area where the bending deformation occurred. This defect could be eliminated by optimizing the process conditions suitable for the newly developed flexible system.

The starter motor noise is usually well identified by the customers since it is operated while the engine is quiet, and leaves distinct impressions of the vehicle. In this study the design of experiments(DOE) was applied to the identification of the noise sources of direct drive starter motor since this process usually requires lengthy analysis and elaborate experiments. In the first stage of the test, five controllable factors(alignment and dynamic unbalance of armature, tightening torques of T/bolt and center bracket bolt, and alignment of the center bracket-yoke-rear bracket), excluding static unbalance, are sorted out of all possible factors. Test results showed that the dynamic unbalance and misalignment of armature are the major factors. However, the error level of the first test was relatively high, indicating that there might be some missing major factors. In the second stage test the results showed that both static and dynamic unbalances are the dominant factors contributing to more than 80% of the overall noise, while the misalignment contributes around 12%. Error of the second test was about 4% that could be considered satisfactory. The noise level of the optimal product was predicted to be reduced by 19dBA, and verification test showed the average noise reduction of 16.8dBA with the standard deviation of 3.2dBA, and proved the usefulness of the whole DOE process.

Once hot forgings for automotive parts such as wheel bearing flange to which cyclic asymmetric bending stress is continuously applied are produced, it is necessary to control their microstructure to obtain superior mechanical properties. It is however hard to control the microstructure uniformly because the strength is reduced as coarsening of ferrite grains. To investigate the microstructural alteration according to process variables during hot working, the variation of the ferrite grain size was studied by utilizing of the computer aided servo-hydraulic Gleeble tester which is hot deformation behavior reproduction equipment. In addition, the effect of the ferrite grain size of raw material on the austenite grain behavior of hot forgings was also examined. The rolling contact fatigue resistance of the induction hardened SAE 1055 steel was compared with the occasion of the same condition of SAE52100 bearing steel. As a result, it was confirmed that the ferrite grain sizes of the forgings depend on the heating temperature and cooling start temperature during hot forging and cooling processes. The induction hardened SAE1055 steel showed a superior rolling contact fatigue resistance to the induction hardened SAE52100 steel. The reason is that SAE1055 steel is freer from the material defect such as segregation than the comparative steel.
The effect of the shape of the side wall on vaporization and fuel mixture were investigated for the impinging spray of a direct injection(DI) gasoline engine under a variety of conditions using the LIEF technique. The characteristics of the impinging spray were investigated under various configurations of piston cavities. To simulate the effect of piston cavity configurations and injection timing in an actual DI gasoline engine, the parameters were horizontal distance from the spray axis to side wall and vertical distance from nozzle tip to impingement plate. Prior to investigating the side wall effect, experiments on free and impinging sprays for flat plates were conducted and these results were compared with those of the side wall impinging spray. For each condition, the impingement plate was located at three different vertical distances(Z=46.7, 58.4, and 70 mm) below the injector tip and the rectangular side wall was installed at three different radial distances(R=15, 20, and 25 mm) from the spray axis. Radial propagation velocity from spray axis along impinging plate became higher with increasing ambient temperature. When the ambient pressure was increased, propagation speed reduced. High ambient pressures tended to prevent the impinging spray from the propagating radially and kept the fuel concentration higher near the spray axis. Regardless of ambient pressure and temperature fully developed vortices were generated near the side wall with nearly identical distributions, however there were discrepancies in the early development process. A relationship between the impingement distance(Z) and the distance from the side wall to the spray axis(R) was demonstrated in this study when R=20 and 25 mm and Z=46.7 and 58.4 mm. Fuel recirculation was achieved by adequate side wall distance. Fuel mixture stratification, an adequate piston cavity with a shorter impingement distance from the injector tip to the piston head should be required in the central direct injection system.
Because of the environmental problems, automotive companies are trying to reduce the weight of car body. Therefore, TRIP(TRansformation Induced Plasticity) steels, which have high strength and ductility have been developed. Welding process is a complex process; therefore deciding the optimal welding conditions on the basis of experimental data is an effective method. However, trial-and-error method to decide the optimal conditions requires too many experiments. To overcome these problems, response surface methodology was used. Response surface methodology is a collection of mathematical and statistical techniques that are used in the modeling and analysis of problems in which a response of interest is influenced by several variables and the objective is to optimize this response. This method was applied to the resistance spot welding process of the TRIP steel to optimize the welding parameters.
