This study investigates the analysis result of structure and fatigue due to the models of the hub space with bolt joint at wheel and the existence or nonexistence of hub ring as the part of suspension system of vehicle. As the static analysis result, the structural vulnerability can be found at hub bolt and the center of wheel at three models. Model 2 and 3 have nearly same deformation and model 1 can be endured at the least load among three models. As the fatigue analysis result, fatigue lives of three models are same at the severest load of SAE bracket history. As many screw threads of weak bolts are jointed in case of model 1, model 1 is shown to be the weakest at fatigue damage among three models. By the result of this study, model 1 with bolt joint becomes most weakest among three models. As model 2 with no hub ring and model 3 with hub ring have the nearly same states of analysis results, hub ring is shown to have no influence on the safety of automotive driving.

Reverse engineering techniques using 3D scanners and 3D printing technologies are being used in various industries. In this paper, the three-dimensional model is designed for automotive hub parts through 3D scanning and reverse engineering, and the design of hub parts is intended to be printed on FDM-style 3D printers to measure and analyze the dimensions of hub parts designed for reverse design and 3D printed hub parts. Experimental result have shown that the dimensions of 3D printed hub parts are small compared to those of the reverse-engineered dimensions, which are due to the shrinkage of filament materials in 3D printing.
Hub-and-spoke transportation network is a powerful and useful network structure that takes full advantage of economies of scale on routes between hubs. In recent studies, the network structure is extended to hybrid hub-andspoke that allows direct transportation between spokes. In this study, we considered more extended network structure which is called hybrid multiple hub-and-spoke that has multiple hubs and allows direct transportation between spokes. We developed a mathematical optimization model for automotive service parts transportation planning under hybrid multiple hub-and-spoke network structure. The model suggests a long-term transportation route planning and a short-term vehicle assignment planning. The model is verified by simulation and validated in real world application to Hyundai Mobis automotive service parts transportation planning. From the simulation result, the model reduced the transportation cost about 24.7%, the total distance about 6.8% and the CO2 emissions about 8.8%. In real world application for 6 months from July to December 2010, the model reduced the transportation cost about 9.1% by changing the long-term transportation route without daily vehicle assignment planning.

In this paper, we propose effective diagnosis algorithm for hub bearing fault in driving vehicle using acceleration signal and wheel speed signal measured in hub bearing unit or knuckle. This algorithm consists of differential, envelope and power spectrum method. We developed diagnosis system for realizing proposed algorithm. This system consists of input device including acceleration sensor and wheel speed sensor, calculation device using Digital Signal Processor (DSP) and display device using Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). Using this diagnosis system, a driver can see hub bearing fault(flaking) from the vibration in driving vehicle. With early repairing, he can keep good ride feeling and prevent accident of vehicle resulting from hub bearing fault.

As riders do not sense damage to hub bearings due to the friction that occurs while riding, unexpected accidents can happen. Hub bearings can also be broken by cracks due to minor impact. Therefore, the vibration analysis of bike hub bearings is thought to be important. Two bike hub bearings were modelled in this study. The bolts at both ends of the bearings were fixed. The standard weight of a Korean man was assumed to be 70Kg, and a force of 700N was applied. As a result of this study, maximum deformations occurred in bolts at both ends of the central axis. Regarding displacement due to natural frequencies, Model 2 had less deformation than Model 1. Using the results of this study, the structural safety of the design of hub bearings can be estimated, and design plans for durable hub bearings can be suggested.

The wheel bearing hub unit is developed type of wheel bearing unified with the hub parts. It has advantage of reducing the weight and the number of components. And, it also improves uniformity of manufacturing quality, In order to design the wheel bearing hub units, many techniques are used such as load analysis, structure analysis and bearing characteristics analysis and so forth. These techniques need highly accurate load conditions founded on service conditions. In this study, to design the wheel bearing hub units used widespread in passenger cars, the service load was measured through driving tests on the public roads and in the special events. The public roads are classified into highway, intercity road, rural road, urban road, and unpaved road so as to know what the characteristics of the road loads are. The results of the tests showed that the wheel force was relative to the lateral acceleration, and also could be calculated from the lateral acceleration. The lateral acceleration was measured from 0.0G to 0.6G in general driving on the public roads, with different distributions in each road type. In special events, the maximum lateral acceleration was measured from 0.8G to 1.3G.

In this paper, the orbital forming analysis of an automotive hub bearing was studied to predict forming performances using the explicit finite element method. To find an efficient solution technique for the orbital forming, axisymmetric finite element models and 3D solid element models were solved and numerically compared. The time scaling and mass scaling techniques were introduced to reduce the excessive computational time caused by small element size in case of the explicit finite element method. It was found from the numerical simulations on the orbital forming that the axisymmetric element models showed the similar results to the 3D solid element models in forming loads whereas the deformations at the inner race of bearing were quite different. Finally the strains at the inner race of bearing and the forming forces to the peen were measured for the same product of the numerical model by test, and were compared with the 3D solid element results. It was founded that the test results were in good agreements with the numerical ones.

In automotive industries, various processes for the cost reduction have been investigated lively. As one of them, powder metallurgy becomes influential. Compared to other methods used for he manufacture of steel components the Powder metallurgy process is competitive primarily due to the small number of production steps to reach the final geometry and thereby also the energy-efficiency. In this paper, to alter present forging process into powder metallurgy process by which the automotive clutch disc spline hub is manufactured machining process, the mechanical properties of sintered materials is investigated by specimen test. Selecting the 3 kinds of materials-SMF 4040, SMF 9060 and DHP-1, their properties according to heat treatment such as carburizing -tempering and plasma-nitrodizing are compared. By result of specimen test - tensile test, compression ring test, Impacting test, measurment of hardness, and microstructure analysis - we concluded that SMF 9060 and carburizing-tempering heat treatment is an optimal material and heat treatment method for the spline hub. It will be able to reduce manufacturing cost and weight.
