  • Automobile door-handle is assembled with three parts that are base, skin and cover. Over-molding processing makes assembly of the base and skin. The skin part that was made by PVC polymer has various thickness. Plastic injection molding simulation of part including significant changed thickness as skin is an inaccuracy comparing with real injection molding. To solve this problem, two commercial flow prediction software that are Moldflow MPI and MAPS 3D were used in this study. Simulations were conducted for three types mesh. Taguchi method was applied for simulation experiments. It will be need to compare with simulation results and real over-molding behavior in the near future.

  • Microstructures and mechanical properties of microalloyed cold forging steel and cold forged prototype automobile part are characterized. The work hardening according to the increase of plastic strain plays a major role in increasing the tensile strength of microalloyed cold forging steel during cold forming. On the other hand, inhomogeneous distribution of plastic strain causes variations in microstructure and mechanical properties. The relation between inhomogeneous distribution of plastic strain and variations in microstructure and mechanical properties is discussed. The variation of mechanical property in cold forged automobile part is analyzed using quantitative evaluation of plastic strain from finite element method.

  • The aluminum Subframe for automobile chassis part was developed using hybrid process, i.e. extruforming, press stamping and MIG welding. To achieve a 30 % weight reduction compared with convensional steel subframe keeping satisfactory performance, the design of cross-section of extruforming part was introduced, then forming simulation was performed and the final design was determined. In addition, we tried to estibilish optimun aluminum welding conditions for good penetration depth and few pore defect, finally the prototype of aluminum subframe was assembled using MIG welding method. Furthermore, we will adapt this technology to mass production and apply to the other chassis parts.

  • A finite element analysis has been performed to investigate the effect of die clearance on shear planes in the fine blanking of a part of automobile safety belt. For the analysis, S45C is selected as an material, which is used in manufacturing the part of automobile safety belt, and Cockcroft-Latham fracture criterion is applied. Effect of die Clearance on die-roll width, die-roll depth, burnish zone, and fracture zone has been investigated in the finite element analysis by a rigid-plastic FEM code, DEFORM-2D. From the analysis, it has been found that die-roll depth and depth of the shear plane increase with increasing die clearance. And the burnish zone decreases with increasing die clearance, but the variation of fracture zone is opposite to that of burnish zone because the increase in die clearance requires less fracture energy. Theoretical predictions are compared with experimental results. There is a good agreement between theory and experiment.

  • Suspension part should have enough endurance during its lifetime to protect passenger. Therefore, the coil spring is one of the major suspension part of an automobile. Corrosion fatigue strength of the coil spring depends on many factors including mechanical and environmental properties. In this paper, residual stresses by shot peening was analyzed using finite element analysis and evaluated its effect on corrosion fatigue strength.

  • In this paper we consider the asymptotic mean squared error of positive part James-Stein estimators. In the normal-normal example, estimators of the mean squared error of these estimators are provided which are correct asymptotically up to O($m^{-l}$). Asymptotic estimators of the MSE's which correct up to O($m^{-l}$) are also provide. Here, m denotes the number of strata. A simulation study is undertaken to evaluate the performance of these estimators.

  • The development of a microprocessor-controlled centreless grinding station has opened the way for the production of automobile camshafts-from raw casting to precision-finished part-as a fully automated operation. This results in manufacture to finer tolerances, with part-to-part consistency and a floor-to-floor time of half that needed for alternative production methods. Shafts with a grinding length of up to 700 mm can be processed.

  • Recently, in the field of automobile industry, to solve the problem of reducing the weight of automobile for the improvement of fuel efficiency and the protection of environment, the aluminum alloy parts have been substituted for the steel parts. However, the aluminum alloy does not have as good mechanical property as the steel part. To improve the mechanical property, the semi-solid die casting process is performed to make automobile parts. In the fabrication of semisolid material the control of the liquid segregation is very important to improve the material properties of aluminum alloy. In the present paper we examine the influence of the liquid segregation by the injection conditions in the semi-solid die casting has been investigated.

  • The crankshaft system of engine is a complex vibratory object and its vibration modes are consisted of torsional, axial and their coupled vibration. Among them, the torsional vibration causes engine noise as well as serious fatigue faillures of crankshaft. If the troules of noises and crankshaft strength are forecasted by torsional vibration calculation in the design atage of crankshaft, the torsional damper is adopted as the final countermeasure. In this paper, some computer program to calculate crankshaft torsional vibration of engine are developed and with developed programs, an efficient rubber-viscous damper for automobile and with developed programs, an efficient rubber-viscous damper for automobile engine is designed and manufactured, and then it is fitted on the actual automobile engine to confirm its calculated efficiency. By comparing the measured result (with damper and without damper) with the calculated one, the reliability of developed computer programs and the performances of manufactured damper are confirmed.
