A Study on Performance Characteristics in Diesel Engine When Applied Ball Bearing Type Turbocharger (볼 베어링 터보차져를 적용시 디젤엔진 성능 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Turbocharger in the application to a diesel engine was widely used in automobile industries for the improvement of engine performance. To comply with stringent emission standards, ball bearing turbocharger has been developed by applying new emission reduction technology. Up to date turbocharger has been proved as an essential part of diesel engines by demonstrating its improved engine performance, fuel efficiency and reduced emission as well. In this research, the performance of the ball bearing turbocharger was compared by the conventional journal bearing type turbocharger. The results shows that ball baring turbocharger was proved to be 10~13% higher fuel efficiency and 30% less average emission than journal bearing turbocharger.

  • Recently, Ultra High Strength Steel (UHSS) sheet metal has been widely used to improve lightweight structures in the automobile industry. Because UHSS sheets have high strength but low elongation, it is difficult to control winkle and thinning for complex shaped products. The draw beads on die surface were introduced in this study to reduce wrinkle and thinning. The positions and strength values of draw beads were selected as design variables and optimized using finite element analysis. The beads positions and strength of a mold for B-pillar part were designed with the proposed optimization method. The accuracy of die design from optimization was verified by comparing with the results from 3-D scanned geometry.

  • The automobile cowl cross bar which is a backbone frame part holding electrical and air conditioning components inside the cockpit module has been designed with more complex geometries recently due to demands of its enhanced functions and reduced weight of frame parts. The traditional manufacturing process using welding between tubes with different diameters shows several problems such as poor mechanical characteristics and appearance, etc. Therefore, in this study, one-piece manufacturing processes which can eliminate the welding process were developed by applying the rotary swaging process. CAE analyses were conducted to examine the feasibility of the process and prototypes were manufactured by using a rotary swaging machine with 4 split rotating dies and 12 head rollers. Bending tests of the manufactured prototypes confirmed that the rotary swaging process gives better mechanical properties comparing with the conventional processes.

  • The unit of competition is not a single firm any more but group of firms. They make a supply chain and compete with other chains. In this study we investigate success factors of supply chains from the supplying firms perspective. We consider various success factors such as commitmet trust communication confilct re-solving techniques vendor selection process and incentive systems. A set of hypotheses is tested based on the data collected from the electronics and automobile part manufacturers. Samples are divided by the length of the relationship between the vendor and assembler. joint problem solving under the long-term relationship plays an important role for the success of the supply chain. The findings offer insight into how to better manage the sup-ply chains.

  • P/M enables the economical production of components for many kinds of gears. Functionally, the sub gear requires high tooth accuracy and bending fatigue strength. The whole tooth profile was sized after sintering to satisfy the gear tooth accuracy specification. The part was redesigned to reduce machining requirements. The required bending fatigue strength was achieved through appropriate material choice and induction of compressive residual stress by shotpeening after carburizing. The P/M sub gear replaced a forged steel gear, satisfied performance requirements, expanded the use of P/M applications and provided over 30% cost reduction.

  • A punched pipe in a muffler for an automobile has many important variables, like location of holes in the pipe and length of the pipe related to noise reduction of a diffuser. This pipe is cut depending on length of product and this process, generally workers cut pipes by hands. In this process, there are many errors and it relies on the skill of workers, so it can happen that cycle time for complete product gets long and productivity gets low. Therefore, we need a vision system to distinguish holes in the punched pipe and a transfer system to set the cutting position automatically by moving the pipe depending on forward and backward part of the holes. This paper explains the development of an automatic transfer device which will cause the beating pipe to be cut correctly, exactly the same length as the product.

  • Recently the high speed end-milling processing is demanded the high-precise technique with good surface rougj1ness and rapid time in aircraft, automobile part and molding industry. The working factors of high speed end-milling has an effect on surface roughness of cutting surface. Therefore this study was carried out to analyze the working factors to get the optimum surface roughness by design of experiment. From this study, surface roughness have an much effect according to priority on Spindle speed, feed rale, hardness and axial depth of cut By design of experiment, it is effectively represented shape characteristics of surface roughness in high speed end-milling And determination($R^2$) coefficient of regression equation had a satisfactory reliability of 89.7% and regression equation of surface roughness is made by regression analysis.

  • In the automobile and machine industry, Forming type conveyer system have problems in that hinge belt plate are stretched, produce a noise and get abrasion. they make the machine get out of order. we make hinge belt thicker for reducing the trouble. Thick hinge belt was stronger. But it was heavier. And it was hard to come up with buyer's expectations because the mold which makes the hinge belt have limit of strength, life cycle and size. So, we developed the machine welded each part of hinge belt plate.

  • The large injection molded parts technology such as instrument panel, front and rear bumper are presented for a precision molding. Some lead time and cost are required to product these part from design to mass product. Recently, CAE is widely used in product design, mold design and analysis of molding conditions to reduce time and cost. The optimal molding conditions can be obtained by DOE(Design of Experiment). The optimal design applications with CAE and DOE have been used in small molded parts. However, application to the large molded body is not reported. In this paper, optimization of injection molding process is studied for quality control in mass production of automobile bumper. Mold temperature difference is chosen through robust design of injection molding process, the molding process being optimized in term of shrinkage and deflection. The optimal conditions through DOE are validated by using injection molding analysis.

Hybrid Type Vibration Power Flow Analysis Method Using SEA Parameters

  • This paper proposes a hybrid method for vibration analysis in the medium to high frequency ranges using Power Flow Analysis (PFA) algorithm and Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA) coupling concepts. The main part of the developed method is the application of coupling loss factor (CLF) suggested in SEA to the power transmission, reflection coefficients in PI' A boundary conditions. The developed hybrid method shows very promising results with regard to the applications for the various damping loss factors in wide frequency ranges. And also this paper presents the applied results of Power Flow Finite Element Method (PFFEM) by forming the new joint element matrix with CLF to analyze the various plate structures in shape. The analytical results of automobile, complex plate structures show good agreement with those of PFFEM using the PFA coefficients.
