  • Embedded control system is widely spreaded and used in various fields including military defence, aviation, medical, etc. due to extended use of smart phones, connected car, IoT. Increasing examples are introduced where embedded control system that perform their unique role such as smart phone and network system organically configure to create new system. According to this trend, organic interface and reliability of each embedded control system are becoming important evaluation factors. The purpose of this paper is to develop quality evaluation criteria method for automobile embedded system, among the fields that use embedded control systems. In order to satisfy high quality level requirements of automobile embedded control system, we surveyed latest trend of automobile embedded control system, analyzed structure and application technology of embedded control system, to establish quality evaluation criteria and method for automobile embedded control system by referring international standard for software (ISO/IEC 9126), and international standard for electric & electronic products (ISO 26262).

Design and Application of Vision Box Based on Embedded System (Embedded System 기반 Vision Box 설계와 적용)

  • Vision system is an object recognition system analyzing image information captured through camera. Vision system can be applied to various fields, and automobile types recognition is one of them. There have been many research about algorithm of automobile types recognition. But have complex calculation processing. so they need long processing time. In this paper, we designed vision box based on embedded system. and suggested automobile types recognition system using the vision box. As a result of pretesting, this system achieves 100% rate of recognition at the optimal condition. But when condition is changed by lighting and angle, recognition is available but pattern score is lowered. Also, it is observed that the proposed system satisfy the criteria of processing time and recognition rate in industrial field.

A Study on Detecting System of Illegal Automobile Using a Seal-Bolt UHF RFID Tag Antenna (봉인볼트용 UHF RFID Tag Antenna를 이용한 차량인식에 관한 연구)

  • This paper introduce UHF miniaturized RFID tag antenna which is embedded on the seal-bolt or plastic bolt for automobile plate. To detect the illegal and un-registered car, the illegal automobile detection system has been developed using the seal-bolt UHF RIF tag antenna. The diameter of seal-bolt UHF tag is about 24mm, almost the same size as 100 Won coin. The simulated and measured reflection coefficient are compared, and the reading range patten is also measured. If seal-bolt tag is embedded on car plate, police can get information of automobile and detect illegal vehicles easily with the illegal automobile detection system.

  • In this paper, we present a transformation method of source code from a POSIX (Portable Operating System Interface) based source code into an OSEK/VDX (Offene Systeme und deren Schnittstellen fur die Elektronik in Kraftfahrzeugen/Vehicle Distributed eXecutive) source code. As the electronic parts of automobile systems increase, the use of embedded software in automobile systems is also growing. Accordingly, many electronic systems are designed in automobile system with OSEK/VDX. Otherwise, one of the major problems of embedded software would be portability to other OS's. To enhance the portability and interoperability of embedded software, we propose a source code transformation method from POSIX to OSEK/VDX based on API (Application Programming Interface) translation method. Considering the characteristics of the OSEK/VDX which uses OIL (OSEK/VDX Implementation Language) standard, transformation process is performed with source code transformation and OIL code generation. For the validity of the proposed method, the transformation experiment is given using Micro-C OS II and OSEK/VDX with XC167CI micro-controller.

  • Recently, in order to reduce the time required to replace an optical jumper cord, many researchers are using a field-installable connector and applying the ferrule polishing method, ferrule mechanical contact method, or ferrule fusion contact method. However, the process of arranging the length of the optical fiber, i.e., inserting the optical fiber into the ferrule by hand and checking its cross section, takes 60% of the time required for the entire process, which increases the overall cost. Therefore, in order to make this task more cost-effective, we will develop an automated inspection system with automatic cross-sectional arrangement of a field-installable connector. This system will be able to decrease the failure rate from 10% to 2% compared with the conventional method when cutting the optical fiber inserted into the ferrule. It will also improve the productivity by decreasing the test time by 28% compared with the conventional method. Our studies showed that it was possible to reduce the production costs and improve the quality of a field-installable connector, and we expect it to dominate the market.

Short Range Rear Obstacle Detector for Automobile Using 24GHz AM Radar Sensor

  • FMCW Radar sensor is commonly used for an automobile collision avoidance system for rider's safe. Systems using FMCW radar, however, would be one of expensive solutions for just simple rear obstacle detection purpose due to its high cost. In this letter, a short range rear obstacle detector using novel 24GHz AM radar sensor is presented. It can be implemented at significantly lower cost than FMCW radar for practical commercialization. The proposed AM radar sensor module is fabricated in a single aluminum housing to reduce the overall size while using single power supply voltage of 12V with 1200mA current for automotive applications. The measured detection range is up to 210cm with 10cm of distance resolution, which is suitable for a parking assistance system for automobiles.

  • Environmental factors affect parts of the automobile. When dust particles are embedded, specially, friction and wear of the rubber-seal in automobile chassis system are increased. Increase in friction and wear leads to weakness of component and reduction of mechanical life. In this study, the wear characteristics of rubber-seal for inflow of dust particles are investigated. Silica($SiO_2$) and alumina($Al_2O_3$) particles are used as a dust particle because these particles are main elements of dust particles. The sliding wear tester are used for investigate the wear characteristics of rubber-seal. If the single dust particle($SiO_2$) is embedded in the rubber-seal component, the influence of dust particle size is more than that of inflow rate on the wear characteristics of rubber-seal. If the mixed dust particles are embedded in the rubber-seal component, the wear rate is increased as the rate of alumina that has a bigger hardness is increased. If the mixed dust particles that have different hardness are embedded in the rubber-seal component, the influence of particle size is more than that of particle hardness.

  • This paper suggests a design for an embedded system to control automobiles using mobile phones and applies the design on Arduino automobile models. Simulation of accidents that can happen in real life were conducted using Arduino automobile with attached sensors. The design includes algorithms for an automatic control that responds to events by detecting potential obstacles that maybe appear in the vehicle's surrounding and by measuring the distances between the obstacle and the vehicle. The feasibility of the suggested system is also reviewed.

  • In this paper, we implement the Digital Signal Processing System based on Human Machine Interface technology for the telematics with embedded noise-robust speech recognition engine and develop the communication system which can be applied to the automobile information center through the human-machine interface technology. Through the embedded speech recognition engine, we can develop the total DSP system based on Human Machine Interface for the telematics in order to test the total system and also the total telematics services.

  • Recently, the automobile industry is going through drastic environmental changes. The relative importance of information technology rapidly developed so far is getting heavier as it is grafted to electrical and electronic areas among all other automobile-related technologies. In this paper, an improved algorithm from the real-time scheduling algorithm of operation system which is loaded in embedded system will be presented. The number of wait-queue of priority was reduced from 16 to 4 in the parts where wide differences were shown in scheduling algorithm of the existing OSEK OS. While the FIFO algorithm was used in wait-queue, the EDF algorithm was applied to the proposed scheduling algorithm, which more improved the real-timeness. Also a simple experiment on the proposed scheduling algorithm was conducted.
