Using the large diameter (D = 2,500mm, L = 40m) batter steel pipe piles, designed as compression piles but used as reaction piles during the static compression load test of socketed test piles (D = 1,000mm, L = 40m), static pile load tests for large diameter instrumented rock-socketed piles were performed. The reaction steel pipe piles were driven 20m into the marine deposit and weathered rock layer and then l0m socketed with reinforced concrete through the weathered rock layer and into hard rock layer. Steel pipe and concrete in the steel pile part, and concrete and rebars in the socketed parts were instrumented to measure strains in each part. The pullout amounts of reaction pile heads were also measured with LVDT. During the static pile load test, total compressional load of about 20MN was loaded on the head of test piles, but load above 20MN was not loaded due to lack of loading capacity of loading system. Over the course of the study, maximum pullout amount up to 7mm was measured in the heads of reaction piles when loaded op to 10MN and 1mm of pullout amount was measured. More than 85% of pullout load was transfered in the residual weathered rock layer and about 10% in the soft rock layer, which was somewhat different transfer mechanism in the static compressional load tests.
The problem of fluctuation-induced digital errors in a rapid single flux quantum (RSFQ) circuit has been very important issue. So in this experiment, we calculated error rate of RSFQ switch in superconductiyity ALU, The RSFQ switch should have a very low error rate in the optimal bias. We prepared two circuits Placed in parallel. One was a 10 Josephson transmission lines (JTLs) connected in series, and the other was the same circuit but with an RSFQ switch placed in the middle of the 10 JTLs. We used a splitter to feed the same input signal to the both circuits. The outputs of the two circuits were compared with an RSFQ XOR to measure the error rate of the RSFQ switch. By using a computerized bit error rate test setup, we measured the bit error rate of 2.18$\times$$10^{12}$ when the bias to the RSFQ switch was 0.398mh that was quite off from the optimum bias of 0.6mA.
The stochastic characteristics of the daily range of water temperature variation was analyzed by employing the techniques of autocorrelation coefficient, autoreggresive model and crosscorrelation model. These time series included daily observations on maximum and minimum values of water temperature and air temperature. The measurement was made by automatic recording instrument at Gu-yee and Dook-do in Han River, and at Waegwan and Gu-mi in Nackdong River in 1981. As a result of this study, it was found that (1) The correlogram of daily water temperature ranges $\Delta AT_i$ and daily air temperature $\Delta AT_i$ at Gu-mi and Gu-yee showed the exponential curves. (2) The most high frequency values of $\Delta AT_i$ and $\Delta WT_i$ were 11$\circ$C and 0.5${\circ}C$ respectively at every measuring site. (3) The correlation coefficients between the daily mean air temperature AT$_i$ and the daily mean water temperature were fairly high as 0.966 at Dook-do and 0.949 at Gu-yee, but the correlation coefficients between $\Delta AT_i$ and $\Delta WT_i$ were very low as 0.1074 at Gu-yee and 0.0324 at Dook-Do.
The Holographic Particle Velocimetry system can be a promising optical tool for the measurements of three dimensional particle velocities. One of inherent limitations of particle holography is the very long depth of field of particle images, which causes considerable difficulty in the determination of particle positions in the optical axis. In this study, we introduced three auto-focusing parameters corresponding to the size of particles, namely, Correlation Coefficient, Sharpness Index, and Depth Intensity to determine the focal plane of a particle along the optical axis. To investigate the suitability of the above parameters, the plane image of dot array screens containing different size of dots was recorded by diffused illumination holography and the positions of each dot in the optical axis were evaluated. In addition, the effect of particle position from the holographic film was examined by changing the distance of the screen from the holographic film. All measurement results verified that the evaluated positions using suggested auto-focusing parameters remain within acceptable range of errors. These research results may provide fundamental information for the development of the holographic velocimetry system based on the automatic image processing.
In this study, we proposed a method for surface profiling aspheric lens molds using a precision displacement sensor with a spatial scanning mechanism. The precision displacement sensor is based on the confocal principle using a broadband light source, providing a 10 nm resolution over a 0.3 mm measurable range. The precision of the sensor, depending on surface slope, was evaluated via Allan deviation analysis. We then developed an automatic surface profiling system by measuring the cross-sectional profile of a lens mold. The precision of the sensor at the flat surface was 10 nm at 10 ms averaging time, while 200 ms averaging time was needed for identical precision at the steepest slope at 25 deg. When we compared the measurement result of the lens mold to a commercial surface profiler, we found that the accuracy of the developed system was less than 90 nm (in terms of 3 sigmas of error) between the two results.
Seawater sampling is the primary task for the study of the marine environmental parameters that require shipboard or laboratory experiments for their analyses, and is also required for the calibration of some instruments for in situ measurement. A new automatic bottle (AUTTLE) is developed for seawater sampling at any desired time and water depth by self-triggering. Both any type of single or assembled mooring for 15 days and manual actuation by using a remote messenger as existing instantaneous single point water samplers are possible. Its sampling capacity and the resolution of time setting are 2 liters and 1 second, respectively. The result of a field experiment with an optical backscattering sensor (OBS) and a total of 14 AUTTLES for the in situ calibration of the OBS shows that the AUTTLE must improve our understanding on the behavior of the sand/mud mixtures in the environments with high waves and strong tides. The AUTTLE will serve as a valuable instrument in the various fields of oceanography, especially where synchronized seawater sampling at several sites is required and/or the information in storm period is important.
In this paper, we present an iterative learning method of compensating for position sensor error. The previously known compensation algorithms need a special perfect position sensor or a priori information about error sources, while ours does not. to our best knowledge, any iterative learning approach has not been taken for sensor error compensation. Furthermore, our iterativelearning algorithm does not have the drawbacks of the existing interativelearning control theories. To be more specivic, our algorithm learns an uncertain function itself rather than its special time-trajectory and does not reuquest the derivatives of measurement signals. Moreover, it does not require the learning system to start with the same initial condition for all iterations. To illuminate the generality and practical use of our algorithm, we give the rigorous proof for its convergence and some experimental results.
