Automatic Registration between EO and IR Images of KOMPSAT-3A Using Block-based Image Matching

  • This paper focuses on automatic image registration between EO (Electro-Optical) and IR (InfraRed) satellite images with different spectral properties using block-based approach and simple preprocessing technique to enhance the performance of feature matching. If unpreprocessed EO and IR images from Kompsat-3A satellite were applied to local feature matching algorithms(Scale Invariant Feature Transform, Speed-Up Robust Feature, etc.), image registration algorithm generally failed because of few detected feature points or mismatched pairs despite of many detected feature points. In this paper, we proposed a new image registration method which improved the performance of feature matching with block-based registration process on 9-divided image and pre-processing technique based on adaptive histogram equalization. The proposed method showed better performance than without our proposed technique on visual inspection and I-RMSE. This study can be used for automatic image registration between various images acquired from different sensors.

  • In this paper, we propose an automatic image registration method for multi-sensor image fusion such as visible and infrared images. The registration is achieved by finding corresponding feature points in both input images. In general, the global statistical correlation is not guaranteed between multi-sensor images, which bring out difficulties on the image registration for multi-sensor images. To cope with this problem, mutual information is adopted to measure correspondence of features and to select faithful points. An update algorithm for projective transform is also proposed. Experimental results show that the proposed method provides robust and accurate registration results.

Accuracy of the Point-Based Image Registration Method in Integrating Radiographic and Optical Scan Images: A Pilot Study

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of different implant computer software on the accuracy of image registration between radiographic and optical scan data. Materials and Methods: Cone-beam computed tomography and optical scan data of a partially edentulous jaw were collected and transferred to three different computer softwares: Blue Sky Plan (Blue Sky Bio), Implant Studio (3M Shape), and Geomagic DesignX (3D systems). In each software, the two image sets were aligned using a point-based automatic image registration algorithm. Image matching error was evaluated by measuring the linear discrepancies between the two images at the anterior and posterior area in the direction of the x-, y-, and z-axes. Kruskal-Wallis test and a post hoc Mann-Whitney U-test with Bonferroni correction were used for statistical analyses. The significance level was set at 0.05. Result: Overall discrepancy values ranged from 0.08 to 0.30 ㎛. The image registration accuracy among the software was significantly different in the x- and z-axes (P=0.009 and <0.001, respectively), but not different in the y-axis (P=0.064). Conclusion: The image registration accuracy performed by a point-based automatic image matching could be different depending on the computer software used.

  • When the image registration methods which were generally used to the low medium resolution satellite images is applied to the high spatial resolution images, some matching errors or limitations might be occurred because of the local distortions in the images. This paper, therefore, proposed the automatic image-to-image registration of high resolution satellite images using local properties of control points to improve the registration result.

Pressure Sensitive Paint를 이용한 압력장 측정기술의 이미지 등록에 관한 연구 (Assessment of Image Registration for Pressure-Sensitive Paint)

  • Assessment of image registration for Pressure Sensitive Paint (PSP) was performed. A 16 bit camera and LED lamp were used with Uni-FIB paint (ISSI). Because of model displacement and deformation at 'wind-on' condition, a large error of the intensity ratio was induced between 'wind-on' and' wind-off images. To correct the error, many kinds of image registrations were tested. At first, control points were marked on the model surface to find the coefficients of polynomial transform functions between the 'wind-off' 'wind-on' images. The 2nd-order polynomial function was sufficient for representing the model displacement and deformation. An automatic detection scheme was introduced to find the exact coordinates of the control points. The present automatic detection algorithm showed more accurate and user-friendly than the manual detection algorithm. Since the coordinates of transformed pixel were not integer, five interpolation methods were applied to get the exact pixel intensity after transforming the 'wind-on' image. Among these methods, the cubic convolution interpolation scheme gave the best result.

술자의 영상정합의 경험이 컴퓨터 단층촬영과 광학스캔 영상 간의 정합 정확성과 작업시간에 미치는 영향 (Effect of image matching experience on the accuracy and working time for 3D image registration between radiographic and optical scan images)

  • 목적: 본 연구의 목적은 컴퓨터 단층촬영과 광학스캔 영상의 정합에서 술자의 경험이 정합의 정확성과 소요시간에 미치는 영향을 조사하는 것이다. 재료 및 방법: 치아결손이 없은 성인 악궁의 컴퓨터 단층촬영과 광학스캔 영상(IDC S1, Amann Girrbach, Koblah, Austria)이 수집되었다. 두 영상간의 영상정합이 임플란트 진단 소프트웨어(Implant Studio, 3Shape, Copenhagen, Denmark)에서 점 기반 자동매칭 방식으로 행해졌다. 영상정합 경험자 군과 미경험자 군으로 나누어 진행되었으며 작업시간이 기록되었다(군당 15명). 각 군의 영상 정합 정확성은 구치부에서의 선형 오차값으로 측정되었다. 정확성 값과 작성시간의 통계적 비교 분석을 위해 유의수준 0.05에서 독립표본 t검정이 이용되었다. 결과: 영상정합의 선형오차값은 경험자 군과 미경험자 군 간에 통계적인 차이가 없었다. 영상정합에 소요한 시간은 경험자 군이 미경험자 군에 비해 유의하게 짧았다(P = .007). 결론: 술자의 영상정합의 경험의 차이는 점 기반 자동정합이 사용된 경우 정합 정확성에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 보인다. 경험자에서 정합에 소요된 시간은 짧았다.

The Comparison of the SIFT Image Descriptor by Contrast Enhancement Algorithms with Various Types of High-resolution Satellite Imagery

  • Image registration involves overlapping images of an identical region and assigning the data into one coordinate system. Image registration has proved important in remote sensing, enabling registered satellite imagery to be used in various applications such as image fusion, change detection and the generation of digital maps. The image descriptor, which extracts matching points from each image, is necessary for automatic registration of remotely sensed data. Using contrast enhancement algorithms such as histogram equalization and image stretching, the normalized data are applied to the image descriptor. Drawing on the different spectral characteristics of high resolution satellite imagery based on sensor type and acquisition date, the applied normalization method can be used to change the results of matching interest point descriptors. In this paper, the matching points by scale invariant feature transformation (SIFT) are extracted using various contrast enhancement algorithms and injection of Gaussian noise. The results of the extracted matching points are compared with the number of correct matching points and matching rates for each point.

  • 본 논문은 Scale Invariant Feature Transform(SIFT) 기술자를 이용한 매칭 방법을 개선하여 고해상도영상에서 보다 많은 매칭쌍(tie points)을 추출함으로써 고해상도영상 자동기하보정의 결과향상을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 기준(reference)영상과 대상(sensed)영상의 특징점(interest points)간의 위치관계를 추가적으로 이용하여 매칭쌍을 추출하였다. SIFT 기술자를 이용하여 어핀(affine)변환계수를 추정한 후, 이를 통해 대상영상의 특징점 좌표를 기준영상 좌표체계로 변환하였다. 변환된 대상영상의 특징점과 기준영상의 특징점간의 공간거리(spatial distance)정보를 이용하여 최종적으로 매칭쌍을 추출하였다. 추출된 매칭쌍으로 piecewise linear function을 구성하여 고해상도 영상간 자동기하보정을 수행하였다. 제안한 기법을 통하여, 기존 SIFT 기법에 의해 추출한 결과에 비해 영상 전역에 걸쳐 고르게 분포된 다수의 매칭쌍을 추출할 수 있었다.

Deformable image registration in radiation therapy

  • The number of imaging data sets has significantly increased during radiation treatment after introducing a diverse range of advanced techniques into the field of radiation oncology. As a consequence, there have been many studies proposing meaningful applications of imaging data set use. These applications commonly require a method to align the data sets at a reference. Deformable image registration (DIR) is a process which satisfies this requirement by locally registering image data sets into a reference image set. DIR identifies the spatial correspondence in order to minimize the differences between two or among multiple sets of images. This article describes clinical applications, validation, and algorithms of DIR techniques. Applications of DIR in radiation treatment include dose accumulation, mathematical modeling, automatic segmentation, and functional imaging. Validation methods discussed are based on anatomical landmarks, physical phantoms, digital phantoms, and per application purpose. DIR algorithms are also briefly reviewed with respect to two algorithmic components: similarity index and deformation models.

  • 본 연구는 단순 전처리 방법과 수정된 지역적 피쳐 추출기법을 이용하여 특성이 다른 적외선영상 자동 기하보정에 초점을 맞추고 있다. 입력영상은 히스토그램 평활화를 통해 중앙값과 절댓값을 이용하여 전처리를 수행하였으며, 추출 피쳐의 유사도를 거리가 아닌 각 개념으로 변경하여 적용함으로써, 영상간 밝기값 차이를 줄이는데 효과적으로 적용할 수 있도록 하였다. 기하보정 결과는 시각적인 방법과 Inverse RMSE 방식을 사용하여 평가하였으며, 영상의 특성 차이로 인해 기존의 지역적 피쳐 추출기법 적용으로 해결될 수 없었던 자동 기하보정이 본 알고리즘을 적용함으로써 높은 정합 신뢰도와 적용 편의성을 보임을 확인할 수 있었다. 이를 통해, 제안 방법이 특정 조건의 다중 센서 영상간 자동 기하보정 기법 중 하나로 사용될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.
