  • We investigate a systematic design procedure of automatic rule generation of fuzzy logic based controllers for highly nonlinear dynamic systems such as an engine dynamic modle. By "automatic rule generation" we mean autonomous clustering or collection of such meaningful transitional relations from one conditional subspace to another. During the design procedure, we also consider optimaly control strategies such as minimum squared error, near minimum time, minimum energy or combined performance critiera. Fuzzy feedback control systems designed by our method have the properties of closed-loop stability, robustness under parameter variabitions, and a certain degree of optimality. Most of all, the main advantage of the proposed approach is that reliability can be potentially increased even if a large grain of uncertainty is involved within the control system under consideration. A numerical example is shown in which we apply our strategic fuzzy controller dwsign to a highly nonlinear model of engine idling speed control.d control.

  • Automatic generation method of structural analysis model data for a truss bridge is presented through 3-D bridge information modeling based on Industry Foundation Classes(IFC). The mapping schema is proposed between a steel bridge information model based on STEP and a truss bridge information model based on the IFC. The geometry information from mapping is presented by IFC model, and SAP 2000 that can import the IFC file performs the structural analysis. Numerical analysis for a truss bridge is performed in this paper.

  • A simple octree encoding algorithm based on a tetrahedron root has been developed to be used for fully automatic generation of three dimensional finite element meshes. This algorithm starts octree decomposition from a tetrahedron root node instead of a hexahedron root node so that the terminal mode has the same topology as the final tetrahedral mesh. As a result, the terminal octant can be used as a tetrahedral finite element without transforming its topology. In this part(I) of the thesis, an efficient algorithm for the tetrahedron-based octree is proposed. For this development, the following problems have been solved, : (1) an efficient data structure for storing the octree and finite elements, (2) an encoding scheme of a tetrahedral octree, (3) a neighbor finding technique for the tetrahedron-based octree.

  • The finite element mesh approach for tool surface description is applied effectively to analyze sheet metal stamping processes. To improve the mesh quality and the stability of the mesh generation process, a gybrid method based on the grid approach and the Delaunay triangulation is proposed in the present work. In the present study, a general method for the mathematical description of arbitrarily shaped tool surface is proposed by introducing the parametric surface approach. A polynomial function employed to describe the base parametric surface and the boundary curves are defined to describe arbitrary three-dimensional trimmed surfaces. To verify the validity of the proposed method, automatic mesh generation is carried out for some shosen complicated parts including actual automotive panel.

  • There are two main problems in the current PLC ladder programming practices: First, currently there are no widely adopted systematic design methods to deal with PLC based control systems in the shop floor. So, the control logic design phase is usually omitted in current PLC programming development life cycle. Second, PLC ladder logic provides only microscopic view of system processes. As a result, it is difficult for FA engineers to have overall perspectives about the interaction of system components intuitively during the verification step of logic errors. To solve these problems, this paper proposed object-oriented design and automatic generation method of PLC ladder logic. Based on the proposed method, the computer software to assist the automatic ladder logic generation is also developed.

  • Combinational automatic test pattern generators (CATPG) have already been commercialized because their algorithms are well known and practical, while sequential automatic test pattern generators(SATPG) have been regarded as impractical because they are computationally complex. A technique to use CATPG instead of SATPG for test generation of sequential circuits is proposed. Redesign of seauential circuits such as Level Sensitive Scan Design (LSSD) is inevitable to use CATPG. Various partial scan techniques has been proposed to avoid full scan such as LSSD. It ha sbeen reported that SATPG is required to use partial scan techniques. We propose a technique to use CATPG for a new partial scan technique, and propose a new CATPG algorithm for the partially scanned circuits. The partial scan technique can be another choice of design for testability because it is computationally advantageous.

  • KEPCO has completed the installation and demonstration of a 52 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) for frequency regulation. Especially, 24 MW BESS is for Automatic Generation Control (AGC) in Shin-Yongin substation. Recently, KEPCO Research Institute has operated it connected to EMS of KPX. This paper discussed the operation strategy of EMS through a study on using 24 MW BESS in AGC operation and propose the improvement of AGC target. It is expected that this paper helps a safe and reliable operation and control of ESS for AGC through its continuous update.

  • In this paper, maximum likelihood-based automatic lexicon generation using mixed-syllables is proposed for unlimited vocabulary voice interface for East Asian languages (e.g. Korean, Chinese and Japanese) in AI-assistant based interaction with mobile devices. The conventional lexicon has two inevitable problems: 1) a tedious repetition of out-of-lexicon unit additions to the lexicon, and 2) the propagation of errors during a morpheme analysis and space segmentation. The proposed method provides an automatic framework to solve the above problems. The proposed method produces a level of overall accuracy similar to one of previous methods in the presence of one out-of-lexicon word in a sentence, but the proposed method provides superior results with the absolute improvements of 1.62%, 5.58%, and 10.09% in terms of word accuracy when the number of out-of-lexicon words in a sentence was two, three and four, respectively.

  • In this paper we suggest a method to produce automatically teat data using UML development diagrams, and analytically describe the application of a tool, Automatic UML-based Test Data Generation (AUTEG) developed using XML technology, to the examples of insurance system. Our AUTEG automatically generates test diagrams that enable to detect errors existing at the interface area between modules composing the whole system, along with test data by applying the existing white-box test technique to the test diagram. Our AUTEG can be applied to the integration test as well as the system test and using the tool, users may make the unit modules of the integration test into several groups.
