A Study on the Development of Polishing Robot System Attached to Machining Center for Curved Surface Die (곡면금형 연마를 위한 머시닝센터 장착형 연마로봇 시스템 개발에 관한 연구)

  • Polishing work for a curved surface die demands simple and repetitive operations and requires much time while it demands also high precision. Therefore it is operated by a skilled worker in handiwork. However the workers avoid gradually a polishing work because of the poor environmental conditions such as dust and noise. In order to reduce the polishing time and to alleviate the problem of shortage of skilled workers, an automatic polishing robot system which is composed of a polishing robot with two degrees of freedom motion and pneumatic system is developed, and it is attached to machining center with three degrees of freedom. The system keeps the polishing tool vertically on the surface of die and maintains constant pneumatic pressure. The polishing robot with DSP(digital signal processor) controller is controlled by sliding mode control. A synchronization between machining center and polishing robot is accomplished by using M code of machining center. A performance experiment for polishing work is executed by the developed automatic polishing robot system. The result shows that the developed automatic polishing robot has a good performance and well polished workpiece surface is obtained.

  • Downhole seismic method is very economic and easy to operate because it uses only one borehole and simple surface source to obtain the shear wave velocity profile of a site. In this study, automatic shear wave source was developed for efficient downhole seismic testing. This source is motor-spring type and easy to control. It can lessen the labor of operator and the working time. Moreover, it can provide better and repetitive signals for data interpretation. By combining developed automatic source with automatic receiver system, PC based data acquisition system, advanced managing program, and semi-automatic downhole performing system were constructed. Through comparison test with manual source, advantages of automatic source were verified. Constructed semi-automatic downhole testing system including automatic shear wave source was applied to the soft soil site. The applicability and reliability were verified and the importance of automating testing system for obtaining reliable result was emphasized.

  • Precision correction is the process of geometrically aligning images to a reference coordinate system using GCPs(Ground Control Points). Many applications of remote sensing data, such as change detection, mapping and environmental monitoring, rely on the accuracy of precision correction. However it is a very time consuming and laborious process. It requires GCP collection, the identification of image points and their corresponding reference coordinates. At typical satellite ground stations, GCP collection requires most of man-powers in processing satellite images. A method of automatic registration of satellite images is demanding. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm for automatic precision correction by GCP chips and RANSAC(Random Sample Consensus). The algorithm is divided into two major steps. The first one is the automated generation of ground control points. An automated stereo matching based on normalized cross correlation will be used. We have improved the accuracy of stereo matching by determining the size and shape of match windows according to incidence angle and scene orientation from ancillary data. The second one is the robust estimation of mapping function from control points. We used the RANSAC algorithm for this step and effectively removed the outliers of matching results. We carried out experiments with SPOT images over three test sites which were taken at different time and look-angle with each other. Left image was used to select UP chipsets and right image to match against GCP chipsets and perform automatic registration. In result, we could show that our approach of automated matching and robust estimation worked well for automated registration.

  • In this paper, an advanced shift controller that supervises the shift transients with adaptive compensation is presented. Modern shift control systems for vehicle automatic transmission are designe d to provide smooth transients for passengers' comfort and better component durability. In the conventional methods, lots of testing and calibration works have been done to tune gains of the controller, but it does not assure optimum shift quality at all times owing to system variations often caused by uncertainties in shifting hydraulic systems and external disturbances. In the proposed control scheme, an adaptive compensation controller with intelligent supervisor is implemented to achieve improved shift quality over the system variations. The control input pattern which generates clutch pressure commands in hydraulic actuating systems, is updated through a learning process to adjust for each subsequent shift based on continuous monitoring of shifting performance and environmental changes. The proposed algorithm is implemented and evaluated on the experimental test setup. Results from the experimental studies for several operation modes show both improved performance and adaptability of the proposed shift controller to uncertain changes of the shifting environment in vehicle power transmission systems.

  • A fermentation system was supplemented with a device for the measurement of the durations of alkali pump feeding for automatic pH control and an A/D convertor for precise monitoring of pH value by computer. A software program was developed to measure buffer capacities from the pH signal and the pH control signal during fermentation. By measuring the buffer capacity on-line, levels of acetic acid were estimated by a software sensor using pH signal in a fermentation process of E.coli growing in a minimal medium. The measured values of acetic acid showed correlation to those of estimated by the software sensor. Lacitic acid production was also successfully estimated by the values of buffer capacities measured on-line.

  • This study was conducted to analyze the present status and the levels of mechanization and automation for raising, feeding, water supply, propagation, health management, ventilation and heat control, data analysis, and etc, and to establish the guide of the future study on development of the optimum production system models of swine facility from the results of this analysis. The scheme of the future study on the development of the optimum production system model of swine facility was established as follows : 1. A Korean and environmental control type slatted windowless swine housing model would be developed according to the following basis : \circled1 Boars, gilts and sows, delivery sows should be raised individually and piglets, growing pigs, and finishing pigs should be raised in group. \circled2 The arrangement of furrowing house were two rows of furrowing crates facing the center aisle. 2. The environmental control system and waste management system that are suitable to Korean and environmental control type slatted windowless swine housing model would be developed. 3. An electronic identification device would be developed. 4. The automatic individual wet feeding system by electronic identification device and computers would be developed. 5. The individual management system would be developed, which could manage individually the breeding pigs by the electronic identification device. 6. An expert system would be developed, which could manage the health and data base of pigs.

Development of an Image Processing System for Classifying the Pig's Thermoregulatory Behavior (돼지의 체온 조절 행동 분류를 위한 영상처리 시스템 개발)

  • This study was conducted to develop an image processing system which can classify the pig's thermoregulatory behavior under the different environmental conditions. The 4 pigs of 25kg were housed in the environmentally controlled chamber(1.4m$\times$2.2m floor space). Postural behavior of the pigs was captured with an CCD color camera. The raw behavioral images were processed by thresholoding, reduction, separation of slightly contacted pigs, labeling, noise removal, computation of number of labels, and classification of the pig's behavior. The correct classification rate of the image processing system was 97.8%(88 out of 90 testing images). The results of this study showed that the image processing system could be used for a behavior-based automatic environmental controller.

  • In this study, the control strategies of indoor air temperature in floor radiant heating system were researched by computer simulation. The temperature difference based time control method using the difference of indoor set temperature and indoor temperature is compared with the existing On-Off control one for heating control performances. As a result, the temperature difference based time control method shows better thermal environmental characteristics in case of selected operational conditions in comparison with existing control one.

  • Function of the window of the building is an environment of the room through the entry of solar radiation. It is vulnerable to significant energy conservation off the thermal efficiency. Also this summer, cooling costs are weighted because of excessive solar radiation. In this paper, we develop a windows automatic control system to use the indoor environmental information, such as home temperature, humidity, light intensity, solar radiation. The system collects the indoor environment information using a variety of sensor, using the collected information, and controls the motor to the system to control the window.

  • In this paper, we propose and describe our implementation of an automatic control system for the center wavelength of a fiber Bragg grating. The proposed system consists of a Fabry-Perot filter and cantilever structure controlled by a step motor interfacing computer. We consider the change of the center wavelength and the reflective spectrum shape for a given FBG according to the translation distance of the push stick and the cantilever thickness variation. The proposed system can control the center wavelength of a FBG with a resolution of 0.01 nm by applying compression or extension to the FBG. The proposed system has characteristics that keep the desired wavelength of the FBG with a variation of environmental conditions.
