  • Mordern Ocean-going ships utilize stabilization techniques in order to minimize the effects of oscillations due to the unwanted disturbances. In this paper, as an elementary design of automatic control system with linear-state vari;tble feedback and series compensator for ship stabilization, analysis and design is limited to the linear time-invariant single input and output system. In order for the Controlled system to meet the requirements of stability, accuracy and transient response, a model of the automatic control system is proposed. For the analysis and design of this model, the state-space method, that is, the mordern way, or an alternative to the transfer function method of describing a linear system that utilize the state variables and state equations, is applied.

  • Dynamic stability and behavior are analyzed fur Pendulum Automatic Dynamic Balancer which is a device to reduce an unbalanced mass of rotors. The nonlinear equations of motion for a system including a Pendulum Balancer are derived with respect to polar coordinate by Lagrange's equations. The perturbation method is applied to find the equilibrium positions and to obtain the linear variation equations. Based on linearized equations, the dynamic stability of the system around the equilibrium positions is investigated by the eigenvalue problem. (omitted)

  • In the semiconductor manufacturing, yield enhancement is an urgent issue. It is ideal to prevent all the failures. However, when a failure occurs, it is important to quickly specify the cause stage and take countermeasure. Reviewing wafer level and composite lot level yield patterns has always been an effective way of identifying yield inhibitors and driving process improvement. This process is very time consuming and as such generally occurs only when the overall yield of a device has dropped significantly enough to warrant investigation. The automatic method of failure pattern extraction from fail bit map provides reduced time to analysis and facilitates yield enhancement.   • An automatic design method of steel frames using nonlinear analysis is developed. The geometric nonlinearity is considered by the use of stability functions. A direct search method is used as an automatic design technique. The unit value of each member is evaluated by using LRFD Interaction equation. The member with the largest unit value Is replaced one by one with an adjacent larger member selected in the database. The weight of the steel frame is taken as an objective function. Load-carrying capacities, deflections, interstory drifts, and ductility requirement are used as constraint functions. Case study of a three-dimensional two story frame are presented.

  • This paper describes an automatic finite element (FE) mesh generation for three-dimensional structures consisting of free-form surfaces. This mesh generation process consists of three subprocesses: (a) definition of geometric model, i.e. analysis model, (b) generation of nodes, and (c) generation of elements. One of commercial solid modelers is employed for three-dimensional solid structures. Node is generated if its distance from existing node points is similar to the node spacing function at the point. The node spacing function is well controlled by the fuzzy knowledge processing. The Delaunay method is introduced as a basic tool for element generation. Automatic generation of FE meshes for three-dimensional solid structures holds great benefits for analyses. Practical performances of the present system are demonstrated through several mesh generations for three-dimensional complex geometry.

  • In this paper, we propose a automatic document summarization method based on Principal Component Analysis(PCA) which is one of the multivariate statistical methods. After extracting thematic words using PCA, we select the statements containing the respective extracted thematic words, and make the document summary with them. Experimental results using newspaper articles show that the proposed method is superior to the method using either word frequency or information retrieval thesaurus.

  • Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) has been widely applied to provide insights into the cell-by-cell expression difference in a given bulk sample. Accordingly, numerous analysis methods have been developed. As it involves simultaneous analyses of many cell and genes, efficiency of the methods is crucial. The conventional cell type annotation method is laborious and subjective. Here we propose a semi-automatic method that calculates a normalized score for each cell type based on user-supplied cell type-specific marker gene list. The method was applied to a publicly available scRNA-seq data of mouse cardiac non-myocyte cell pool. Annotating the 35 t-stochastic neighbor embedding clusters into 12 cell types was straightforward, and its accuracy was evaluated by constructing co-expression network for each cell type. Gene Ontology analysis was congruent with the annotated cell type and the corollary regulatory network analysis showed upstream transcription factors that have well supported literature evidences. The source code is available as an R script upon request.

  • In gear-train design, power-flow analysis is a very important process. The method for power-flow analysis apply the power balance equation and torque balance equation to each fundamental circuit. Then, the equation are solved simultaneously to determine the power-flow in planetary gear train. In this paper we perform power-flow analysis of a 6-speed automatic transmission. With this results are used to represent block diagram. In addition, the efficiencies of epicyclic inversion of the 6-speed automatic transmission is obtained.

  • Automatic generation method of structural analysis model data for a truss bridge is presented through 3-D bridge information modeling based on Industry Foundation Classes(IFC). The mapping schema is proposed between a steel bridge information model based on STEP and a truss bridge information model based on the IFC. The geometry information from mapping is presented by IFC model, and SAP 2000 that can import the IFC file performs the structural analysis. Numerical analysis for a truss bridge is performed in this paper.

  • The LH-OAT (Latin Hypercube One factor At a Time) method for sensitivity analysis and SCE-UA (Shuffled Complex Evolution at University of Arizona) optimization method were applied for the automatic calibration of SWAT model in Bocheong-cheon watershed. The LH-OAT method which combines the advantages of global and local sensitivity analysis effectively identified the sensitivity ranking for the parameters of SWAT model over feasible parameter space. Use of this information allows us to select the calibrated parameters for the automatic calibration process. The performance of the automatic calibration of SWAT model using SCE-UA method depends on the length of calibration period, the number of calibrated parameters, and the selection of statistical error criteria. The performance of SWAT model in terms of RMSE (Root Mean Square Error), NSEF (Nash-Sutcliffe Model Efficiency), RMAE (Relative Mean Absolute Error), and NMSE (Normalized Mean Square Error) becomes better as the calibration period and the number of parameters defined in the automatic calibration process increase. However, NAE (Normalized Average Error) and SDR (Standard Deviation Ratio) were not improved although the calibration period and the number of calibrated parameters are increased. The result suggests that there are complex interactions among the calibration data, the calibrated parameters, and the model error criteria and a need for further study to understand these complex interactions at various representative watersheds.
