  • Recently, because of the weather forecasts through the low-resolution data has been limited, the demand of the high-resolution data is sharply increasing. Therefore, in this study, we restore the ultra-high resolution synthetic precipitation and temperature data for 2000-2014 due to small-scale topographic effect using the QPM (Quantitative Precipitation Model)/QTM (Quantitative Temperature Model). First, we reproduce the detailed precipitation and temperature data with 1km resolution using the distribution of Automatic Weather System (AWS) data and Automatic Synoptic Observation System (ASOS) data, which is about 10km resolution with irregular grid over South Korea. Also, we recover the precipitation and temperature data with 1km resolution using the MERRA reanalysis data over North Korea, because there are insufficient observation data. The precipitation and temperature from restored current climate reflect more detailed topographic effect than irregular AWS/ASOS data and MERRA reanalysis data over the Korean peninsula. Based on this analysis, more detailed prospect of regional climate is investigated.

  • Climate data were obtained over an eight-year period (July 2013 to June 2021) using an automatic weather observation system (AWS) installed at the foot of Mt. Geumo in Chilgok, Gyeongbuk. Using climate data, the statistical and meteorological characteristics of the local circulation between the Nakdong River and Mt. Geumo were analyzed. This study is based on automatic weather observation system data for Dongyeong, along with comparative climate data from the Korea Meteorological Administration (Chilgok) and the Gumi meteorological observatory. Over the eight- years, mountain and valley winds have occurred 48 times a year on average, with the highest occurring in May and the weakest winds in June and December. When mountain winds occurred, the temperature in the nearby lowland region more strongly decreased than when valley winds blew. However, the potential to use mountain winds to improve urban thermal environments is limited because mountain winds occur infrequently in summer when a drop in nighttime temperature is required.

  • Various studies have been conducted on cloud observation using all-sky images acquired with a wide-angle camera system since the early 21st century, but it is judged that an automatic observation system that can completely replace the eye observation has not been obtained. In this study, to verify the quantification of cloud observation, which is the final step of the algorithm proposed to automate the observation, the cloud distribution of the all-sky image and the corrected image were compared and analyzed. The reason is that clouds are formed at a certain height depending on the type, but like the retina image, the center of the lens is enlarged and the edges are reduced, but the effect of human learning ability and spatial awareness on cloud observation is unknown. As a result of this study, the average cloud observation error of the all-sky image and the corrected image was 1.23%. Therefore, when compared with the eye observation in the decile, the error due to correction is 1.23% of the observed amount, which is very less than the allowable error of the eye observation, and it does not include human error, so it is possible to collect accurately quantified data. Since the change in cloudiness due to the correction is insignificant, it was confirmed that accurate observations can be obtained even by omitting the unnecessary correction step and observing the cloudiness in the pre-correction image.

  • An electronic medical record (EMR) is the medical system that all the test are recorded as text data. However, domestic EMR systems have various forms of medical records. There are a lot of related works to standardize the laboratory codes as a LOINC (Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Code). However the existing researches resolve the problem manually. The manual process does not work when the size of data is enormous. The paper proposes a novel automatic LOINC mapping algorithm which uses indexing techniques and semantic similarity analysis of medical information. They use file system which is not proper to enormous medical data. We designed and implemented mapping algorithm for standardization laboratory codes in medical informatics compared with the existing researches that are only proposed algorithms. The automatic creation of searching words is being possible. Moreover, the paper implemented medical searching framework based on database system that is considered large size of medical data.

  • Extreme temperature impacts on field crop are of key concern and increasingly assessed, however the studies have seldom taken into account the automatic adaptations such as shifts in planting dates, phenological dynamics and cultivars. In this present study, trial data on rice phenology, agro-meteorological hazards and yields during 1981-2009 at 120 national agro-meteorological experiment stations were used. The detailed data provide us a unique opportunity to quantify extreme temperature impacts on rice yield more precisely and in a setting with automatic adaptations.

  • In order to clarify the vertical ozone distribution in planetary boundary layer of coastal area with complex terrain, an observation campaign was carried out around Gwangyang Bay with dense pollutant emission sources during two days from June, 4 2007. For this observation are Radiosonde, SODAR(SOnic Detection And Ranging) and Tethered ozone sonde were employed. The surface meteorological and photochemical observation data provided by AWS (Automatic Weather System) and AQMS (Air Quality Monitoring System) were also applied for analysis. Synoptic condition is strongly associated with lower level ozone distribution in complex terrain coastal area. Since mesoscale circulation induced by difference of characteristics of land and sea and orographic forcing is predominant under calm synoptic condition, vertical distribution of ozone is complicate and vertical ozone concentration greatly fluctuated. However in second day when synoptic influence become strong, ozone concentration in lower levels is vertically uniform regardless of observation level. This results in vertical observation indicates that vertical ozone distribution is often determined by synoptic condition and also affects surface ozone concentration.

  • We need water equivalent unit data of snowfall for the purpose of forecast and hydrology related research area. This study developed new method of automatic recording snowfall as weight unit. The instrument designed for measuring weight of snowfall by stain-gauge loadcell. Field test of instrument carried out at Daegwallyeong Obs. Station from 22 Jan. to 22 Feb. 2007. During observation period there is 15.3 cm snow depth and 16.0 mm of accumulated water equivalent depth at Daegwallyeong Obs. Station on 13 to 14 Feb. 2007. But the instrument of this study recorded 22.1 mm of water equivalent depth. It is not easy to explain difference between Daegwallyeong and this study. Because this study is only one case of comparison of snow measurement and there is very little amount of snow observation research. The density of snowfall calculated from 0.09 to $0.15g/cm^3$ from the observation data of 13 to 14 Feb. 2007. There is high relation between radar echo and snowfall amount measured by weight unit. It can supports forecast of snowfall and development of numerical model for forecast.

  • Now AIS (Automatic Identification System) has been under full operation for ocean-going vessels, and it is expected not only to identify target ships but also to take collision avoidance using AIS information with Radar and ARFA information in restricted waters. AIS information is very useful not only for target identifications but also for taking collision avoidance, but OOW (Officer OF Watch-keeping) should take care of systematic observation of AIS because of miss-operation or malfunction of AIS. In this paper, we propose the application of Onboard Ship Handling Simulator with visual system displayed 3D scene added AIS performance such as blind areas of Island, microwave propagation, ok. and maneuvering simulation using TK models, applied real time AIS information and research the effectiveness of this system for ship handling in restricted waters, and discus the principal issues through the on board experiments. Conclusion will be expected that; 1) systematic observation of ASS information using visual scene simulator with AIS information will be effectively done, 2) observation compared with Radar and ARPA information will be also useful to make a systematic observation, 3) using the recording and replay function of simulation will be useful not only for systematic observation but also to measure and to encourage officers' skill.

  • A new method of automatic recording raingauge is developed to measure rainfall 1200mm full scale with high accuracy and resolution. The principle of new instrument is to detect a weight change of a buoyant weight according to a change in water level of raingauge measured by the use of a strain gauge load cell. This method has the advantage of increasing measurement accuracy, since no moving equipment is used. Laboratory test of the instrument was recorded 0.4% error of 190mm rainfall amount. The validity of new instrument was examined by comparing its measured values with values recorded by automatic weather station on June 24 to 25 2001 at Daegu Meteorological Station, when there is 148.3mm rainfall amount. In spite of much rainfall there is only 0.77mm difference of total rainfall amount. This instrument was accomplished high accuracy and resolution at field test in much rainy day.

  • An automatic modal identification program is developed for continuous extraction of modal parameters of three cable-supported bridges in Hong Kong which are instrumented with a long-term monitoring system. The program employs the Complex Modal Indication Function (CMIF) algorithm for identifying modal properties from continuous ambient vibration measurements in an on-line manner. By using the LabVIEW graphical programming language, the software realizes the algorithm in Virtual Instrument (VI) style. The applicability and implementation issues of the developed software are demonstrated by using one-year measurement data acquired from 67 channels of accelerometers permanently installed on the cable-stayed Ting Kau Bridge. With the continuously identified results, variability in modal vectors due to varying environmental conditions and measurement errors is observed. Such an observation is very helpful for selection of appropriate measured modal vectors for structural health monitoring use.
