  • Binary translation is a restructuring process in order to execute a program targeting a specific device on the other devices. In binary translation, it is very important to generate the translation rules between two devices. There are two methods for generating the translation rules, direct and indirect mapping. The direct mapping is the method for performance, while the indirect mapping is the method for retargetability. This paper suggests a binary translation method based on the direct mapping for the embedded systems. Because, however, the retargetability is also important requirement, we suggest the direct mapping based binary translation with considering the retargetability. In addition, we implement an automatic generation tool for translation rules to prove our concept. Through this method, we can generate the translation rules with considering the performance as well as the retargetability. Furthermore, we can reduce costs for the binary translation.

  • The linguistic characteristics of a sign language provide an important clue for an automatic construction of its expression from a given natural language sentence. For such characterization, we focus on the identification of elided constituents, the mapping of property-changing information into spatio-temporal dimension, and the need for rearranging the order of component information for enhanced quality of delivery. We use our characterization to implement a system that converts sentences in Korean into corresponding expressions in the Korean Sign Language.

  • A clinically oriented 32 channel Electroencephalogram (EEG) and evoked potential (EP) mapping system has been developed. The EEG and EP signals acquired from 32-channel electrodes are amplified by the pre-amplifier located near patient and are then tither amplified by main amplifier. An automatic artifact rejection scheme is employed using a neural network by which examination time is reduced substantially. Auditary and visual stimuli are used for the evoked potential mapping. A user-friendly graphical interface based on the Microsoft Window 3.1 is developed for the operation of the system. Statistical databases for the poop and individual comparisons are also included to support statistically based diagnosis.

  • This paper suggests an automatic elliptic grid generation method that is well-suited for the numerical mapping of complex geometries which are easily obtained from general CAD programs. An LBLADI solver is used for the governing mapping equations to have the strong diagonal dominance. The full boundary control method is adopted to determine the control functions of the equations, which allows the control of the grid regarding spacing and angle control at all boundary surfaces. The solution method presented here provides the capability of mapping very complicated geometries by defining grid point locations only along the boundaries. In the automated elliptic grid generation procedure, it is showed that strong diagonal dominance is essential to achieve successful mapping irrespective of the initial grid condition provided. To demonstrate the robustness of this method, it is applied to the thermal flow like the natural convection between eccentric cylinders. The results agree well with others.

  • A 3D modeling of urban area can be composed the terrain modeling that can express specific and shape of the terrain and the object modeling such as buildings, trees and facilities which are found in urban areas. Especially in a 3D modeling of building, it is very important to make a unit model by simplifying 3D structure and to take a texture mapping, which can help visualize surface information. In this study, the texture mapping technique, based on library for 3D urban modeling, was used for building modeling. This technique applies the texture map in the form of library which is constructed as building types, and then take mapping to the 3D building frame. For effectively apply, this technique, we classified buildings automatically using LiDAR data and made 3D frame using LiDAR and digital map. To express the realistic building texture, we made the texture library using real building photograph.

  • Objectives: Aluminum step wedge (ASW) equivalent radiodensity (eRD) has been used to quantify restorative material's radiodensity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of image acquisition control (IAC) of a digital X-ray system on the radiodensity quantification under different exposure time settings. Materials and Methods: Three 1-mm thick restorative material samples with various opacities were prepared. Samples were radiographed alongside an ASW using one of three digital radiographic modes (linear mapping (L), nonlinear mapping (N), and nonlinear mapping and automatic exposure control activated (E)) under 3 exposure time settings (underexposure, normal-exposure, and overexposure). The ASW eRD of restorative materials, attenuation coefficients and contrasts of ASW, and the correlation coefficient of linear relationship between logarithms of gray-scale value and thicknesses of ASW were compared under 9 conditions. Results: The ASW eRD measurements of restorative materials by three digital radiographic modes were statistically different (p = 0.049) but clinically similar. The relationship between logarithms of background corrected grey scale value and thickness of ASW was highly linear but attenuation coefficients and contrasts varied significantly among 3 radiographic modes. Varying exposure times did not affect ASW eRD significantly. Conclusions: Even though different digital radiographic modes induced large variation on attenuation of coefficient and contrast of ASW, E mode improved diagnostic quality of the image significantly under the underexposure condition by improving contrasts, while maintaining ASW eRDs of restorative materials similar. Under the condition of this study, underexposure time may be acceptable clinically with digital X-ray system using automatic gain control that reduces radiation exposure for patient.

  • Mapping accurate spatial information is important for constructing three-dimensional (3D) spatial models and managing artificial facilities, and, especially, mapping road centerlines is necessary for constructing accurate road maps. This research developed a semi-automatic methodology for mapping road centerlines using the MMS(Mobile Mapping System) LiDAR(Light Detection And Ranging) point cloud as follows. First, the intensity image was generated from the given MMS LiDAR data through the interpolation method. Next, the line segments were extracted from the intensity image through the edge detection technique. Finally, the road centerline segments were manually selected among the extracted line segments. The statistical results showed that the generated road centerlines had 0.065 m overall accuracy but had some errors in the areas near road signs.

  • While we are driving a car, we are able to listen to musics by two ways: by selecting (manipulating) what we want and by just playing as they are given (in CD). These methods make a driver tired while he is driving or it means that a music which is provided is not concerned with a driver's preference. To improve these problems, there have been many studies about the automatic music providing systems based on driver's emotion. However, these studies have some difficult problems: the first one is that it is not easy to determine driver's emotion, and the other one is that it is hard to recommend and play the suitable music corresponding to the determined user's emotion. In this paper, to overcome the second problem mentioned above, a new mapping method between driver's emotion and music genre for automatic music providing system on vehicle is presented and two experiments are examined for the validation of the proposed method. The experimental results and discussions are explored to show the effectiveness and validity of the proposed method.

  • Complex geometric shapes can be defined simply and efficiently by combining and operating various surface primitives. These primitives and their intersection curves are used in finite element mesh generation to form an easy and intuitive procedure for finite element modelling of curved surfaces. This paper proposes techniques of automatic mesh generation on surface primitives with arbitrarily shaped boundaries and control curves, which may be created by surface to surface intersection. A method of automatic mesh generation on plane, which was previously developed by the author, has been modified for application to the surface mesh generation. Owing to the mesh generation-wise differences between planes and surfaces, the surfaces should be transformed into conceptual plane so that the modified plane mesh generation method can be applied. Surface development, mapping and mesh reconstruction are the key techniques suggested in this paper. The selection of the technique to apply can be determined automatically on the basis of the developability, existence of singularity and other characteristics of the surfaces on which the mesh is to be generated. The suggested techniques were implemented into parts of mesh generation functions of the finite element software, MacTran. Their validity and practicality were manifested by the actual use of this software.

  • Airborne LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology has reached a degree of the required accuracy in mapping professions, and advanced LIDAR systems are becoming increasingly common in the various fields of application. LiDAR data constitute an excellent source of information for reconstructing the Earth's surface due to capability of rapid and dense 3D spatial data acquisition with high accuracy. However, organizing the LIDAR data and extracting information from the data are difficult tasks because LIDAR data are composed of randomly distributed point clouds and do not provide sufficient semantic information. The main reason for this difficulty in processing LIDAR data is that the data provide only irregularly spaced point coordinates without topological and relational information among the points. This study introduces an efficient and robust method for automatic extraction of building footprints using airborne LIDAR data. The proposed method separates ground and non-ground data based on the histogram analysis and then rearranges the building boundary points using convex hull algorithm to extract building footprints. The method was implemented to LIDAR data of the heavily built-up area. Experimental results showed the feasibility and efficiency of the proposed method for automatic producing building layers of the large scale digital maps and 3D building reconstruction.
