  • While the incorporating ESG indicator is recognized as crucial for sustainability and increased firm value, inconsistent disclosure of ESG data and vague assessment standards have been key challenges. To address these issues, this study proposes an ambiguous text-based automated ESG rating strategy. Earnings Call Transcript data were classified as E, S, or G using the Refinitiv-Sustainable Leadership Monitor's over 450 metrics. The study employed advanced natural language processing techniques such as BERT, RoBERTa, ALBERT, FinBERT, and ELECTRA models to precisely classify ESG documents. In addition, the authors computed the average predicted probabilities for each label, providing a means to identify the relative significance of different ESG factors. The results of experiments demonstrated the capability of the proposed methodology in enhancing ESG assessment criteria established by various rating agencies and highlighted that companies primarily focus on governance factors. In other words, companies were making efforts to strengthen their governance framework. In conclusion, this framework enables sustainable and responsible business by providing insight into the ESG information contained in Earnings Call Transcript data.

  • Ship engine rooms have improved automation systems owing to the advancement of technology. However, there are many variables at sea, such as wind, waves, vibration, and equipment aging, which cause loosening, cutting, and leakage, which are not measured by automated systems. There are cases in which only one engineer is available for patrolling. This entails many risk factors in the engine room, where rotating equipment is operating at high temperature and high pressure. When the engineer patrols, he uses his five senses, with particular high dependence on vision. We hereby present a preliminary study to implement an engine-room patrol robot that detects and informs the machine room while a robot patrols the engine room. Images of ship engine-room equipment were classified using a convolutional neural network (CNN). After constructing the image dataset of the ship engine room, the network was trained with a pre-trained CNN model. Classification performance of the trained model showed high reproducibility. Images were visualized with a class activation map. Although it cannot be generalized because the amount of data was limited, it is thought that if the data of each ship were learned through transfer learning, a model suitable for the characteristics of each ship could be constructed with little time and cost expenditure.

  • The normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) derived from satellite images is a crucial tool to monitor forests and agriculture for broad areas because the periodic acquisition of the data is ensured. However, optical sensor-based vegetation indices(VI) are not accessible in some areas covered by clouds. This paper presented a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) based approach to retrieval of the optical sensor-based NDVI using machine learning. SAR system can observe the land surface day and night in all weather conditions. Radar vegetation indices (RVI) from the Sentinel-1 vertical-vertical (VV) and vertical-horizontal (VH) polarizations, surface elevation, and air temperature are used as the input features for an automated machine learning (AutoML) model to conduct the gap-filling of the Sentinel-2 NDVI. The mean bias error (MAE) was 7.214E-05, and the correlation coefficient (CC) was 0.878, demonstrating the feasibility of the proposed method. This approach can be applied to gap-free nationwide NDVI construction using Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 images for environmental monitoring and resource management.

  • Fake news has emerged as a significant issue over the last few years, igniting discussions and research on how to solve this problem. In particular, studies on automated fact-checking and fake news detection using artificial intelligence and text analysis techniques have drawn attention. Fake news detection research entails a form of document classification; thus, document classification techniques have been widely used in this type of research. However, document summarization techniques have been inconspicuous in this field. At the same time, automatic news summarization services have become popular, and a recent study found that the use of news summarized through abstractive summarization has strengthened the predictive performance of fake news detection models. Therefore, the need to study the integration of document summarization technology in the domestic news data environment has become evident. In order to examine the effect of extractive summarization on the fake news detection model, we first summarized news articles through extractive summarization. Second, we created a summarized news-based detection model. Finally, we compared our model with the full-text-based detection model. The study found that BPN(Back Propagation Neural Network) and SVM(Support Vector Machine) did not exhibit a large difference in performance; however, for DT(Decision Tree), the full-text-based model demonstrated a somewhat better performance. In the case of LR(Logistic Regression), our model exhibited the superior performance. Nonetheless, the results did not show a statistically significant difference between our model and the full-text-based model. Therefore, when the summary is applied, at least the core information of the fake news is preserved, and the LR-based model can confirm the possibility of performance improvement. This study features an experimental application of extractive summarization in fake news detection research by employing various machine-learning algorithms. The study's limitations are, essentially, the relatively small amount of data and the lack of comparison between various summarization technologies. Therefore, an in-depth analysis that applies various analytical techniques to a larger data volume would be helpful in the future.

  • It is desirable if users surfing on the Internet could find Web pages related to their interests as closely as possible. Toward this ends, this paper presents a topic specific Web crawler computing the degree of relevance. collecting a cluster of pages given a specific topic, and refining the preliminary set of related web pages using term frequency/document frequency, entropy, and compiled rules. In the experiments, we tested our topic specific crawler in terms of the accuracy of its classification, crawling efficiency, and crawling consistency. First, the classification accuracy using the set of rules compiled by CN2 was the best, among those of C4.5 and back propagation learning algorithms. Second, we measured the classification efficiency to determine the best threshold value affecting the degree of relevance. In the third experiment, the consistency of our topic specific crawler was measured in terms of the number of the resulting URLs overlapped with different starting URLs. The experimental results imply that our topic specific crawler was fairly consistent, regardless of the starting URLs randomly chosen.

  • The development of unmanned AI continues, and the development of AI unmanned is aimed at more efficiently, accurately, and speedily the work that has been resolved by manpower such as industry, welfare, and manpower. AI unmanned technology is evolving in various places, and it is time to switch to unmanned systems from many industries and factories. We take this into consideration, and use the Deep Learning technology, which is one of the core technologies of artificial intelligence (AI), not the manpower but the fruits that pour the rails at once in a large orchard. We want to study the unmanned fruit sorting machine that can be operated under manager's supervision without dividing the fruit by type and grade and dividing by country of origin and grade. This unmanned automated classification system aims to reduce the labor cost by minimizing the manpower and to improve the

  • The rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies such as machine learning and deep learning is expanding its impact in the public administrative and public policy sphere. This paper is an exploratory study on policy decision-making in the age of artificial intelligence to design automated configuration and operation through data analysis and algorithm development. The theoretical framework was composed of the types of policy problems according to the degree of problem structuring, and the success and failure cases were classified and analyzed to derive implications. In other words, when the problem structuring is more difficult than others, the greater the possibility of failure or side effects of decision-making using artificial intelligence. Also, concerns about the neutrality of the algorithm were presented. As a policy suggestion, a subcommittee was proposed in which experts in technical and social aspects play a professional role in establishing the AI promotion system in Korea. Although the subcommittee works independently, it suggests that it is necessary to establish governance in which the results of activities can be synthesized and integrated.

  • Recently, parents and teachers consider physical education as a minor subject for students in elementary and secondary schools. Physical education performance has become increasingly significant as parents and schools pay more attention to physical schooling. The sports mining with distribution analysis model considers different factors, including the games, comments, conversations, and connection made on numerous sports interests. Using different machine learning/deep learning approach, children's athletic and academic interests can be tracked over the course of their academic lives. There have been a number of studies that have focused on predicting the success of students in higher education. Sports interest prediction research at the secondary level is uncommon, but the secondary level is often used as a benchmark to describe students' educational development at higher levels. An Automated Student Interest Prediction on Sports Mining using DL Based Bi-directional Long Short-Term Memory model (BiLSTM) is presented in this article. Pre-processing of data, interest classification, and parameter tweaking are all the essential operations of the proposed model. Initially, data augmentation is used to expand the dataset's size. Secondly, a BiLSTM model is used to predict and classify user interests. Adagrad optimizer is employed for hyperparameter optimization. In order to test the model's performance, a dataset is used and the results are analysed using precision, recall, accuracy and F-measure. The proposed model achieved 95% accuracy on 400th instances, where the existing techniques achieved 93.20% accuracy for the same. The proposed model achieved 95% of accuracy and precision for 60%-40% data, where the existing models achieved 93% for accuracy and precision.

  • Big data analytics and AI play a critical role in the development of smart plants. This study presents a big data platform for plant data and an 'AutoML platform' for AI-based plant O&M(Operation and Maintenance). The big data platform collects, processes and stores large volumes of data generated in plants using Hadoop, Spark, and Kafka. The AutoML platform is a machine learning automation system aimed at constructing predictive models for equipment prognostics and process optimization in plants. The developed platforms configures a data pipeline considering compatibility with existing plant OISs(Operation Information Systems) and employs a web-based GUI to enhance both accessibility and convenience for users. Also, it has functions to load user-customizable modules into data processing and learning algorithms, which increases process flexibility. This paper demonstrates the operation of the platforms for a specific process of an oil company in Korea and presents an example of an effective data utilization platform for smart plants.

  • Corporate ESG performance (environmental, social, and corporate governance) reflecting a company's strategic sustainability has emerged as one of the main factors in today's investment decisions. The traditional ESG performance rating process is largely performed in a qualitative and subjective manner based on the institution-specific criteria, entailing limitations in reliability, predictability, and timeliness when making investment decisions. This study attempted to predict the corporate ESG rating through automated machine learning based on quantitative and disclosed corporate financial information. Using 12 types (21,360 cases) of market-disclosed financial information and 1,780 ESG measures available through the Korea Institute of Corporate Governance and Sustainability during 2019 to 2021, we suggested a deep neural network prediction model. Our model yielded about 86% of accurate classification performance in predicting ESG rating, showing better performance than other comparative models. This study contributed the literature in a way that the model achieved relatively accurate ESG rating predictions through an automated process using quantitative and publicly available corporate financial information. In terms of practical implications, the general investors can benefit from the prediction accuracy and time efficiency of our proposed model with nominal cost. In addition, this study can be expanded by accumulating more Korean and international data and by developing a more robust and complex model in the future.
